This review is updated for "2.1.1-Test" (what it is titled in-game) patch.

The game is still a giant grind fest. It isn't very long at all. The level up and scrap grid fools you into thinking there is more depth to the game than there really is. You have to level up to unlock a node to get access to upgrades you buy with scraps. It is imperative that you plan your path out beforehand because you can buy into the same node twice and waste a level up. Which that would not be a huge issue except for the fact that it takes several runs to level up no matter what the enemy level is. When you finally beat the game it gives you a lot of free level ups when levels are no longer desperately needed. There are also some balance issues and a lot of game breaking bugs.

Positives:
+Art style is good.
+Music is decent.
+Full controller support with nSwitch Pro controller

Negatives:
-Too much grinding required for levels and upgrades.
-Could never get co-op to work. Both the keyboard and the controller only controlled player 1. (Still true in 2.1.1)
-Ship size and hitbox size. The game wants to be a bullet hell, according to the description, but in most bullet hell games only the cockpit is the hitbox. In this the hitbox size is huge. The 1.2.0a patch notes say "Hitbox now reaches across cockpit to each gun, leaving each wing not damageable." This is not true. (Still true for 2.1.1) Example
-No explanation for what the lane shift icons mean. (New to 2.1.1)
-Several bugs. To name a few:
  • Bombs and laser pickups no longer spawn in story mode nor arcade mode. Neither do any of the skills you buy in the grid. (New to 2.1.1)
  • In boss rush mode you can get your fire rate up so high that the bullets push the Tetra Knight's artwork back. The hitbox for ship collision remains static, though. This can cause you to run into the enemy when you think you are not as close. Example
  • In bossrush mode and arcade mode sometimes a boss will not finish his death animation. This halts progression and ends your run. (Still true in 2.1.1) Example
  • Arcade mode glitches out every now and then when you die and never recognizes that you are dead. The game keeps progressing like you are still alive. You can not pause it when this happens so you have to alt-f4. Example
  • Bombs do not carry over to final stage. (No idea if still true in 2.1.1 because of power-ups not dropping)
  • In two player story mode you can never go to the final stage. It just sits forever. Only been tried with a dead player 2 since I can't control player 2. (No idea if still true in 2.1.1 because of next bug)
  • In two player story mode it is impossible to move past 'choose your trait' if player 2 is dead. (New to 2.1.1)
  • In two player story mode one player can get stuck off screen during the shift. (New to 2.1.1) Example
  • If you pick up homing bullets and are in a shifted lane the bullets track off screen to the centre lane. (New to 2.1.1) Example
  • If you are fighting a mini boss before a lane shift the mini boss can shift into the lane with you. If you do not kill him before the mini boss of the lane shift he will still be firing at you during 'choose your trait'. (New to 2.1.1) Example
  • Sometimes bullet sounds persist until boss. (New to 2.1.1)
  • The station platform stage progression bar does not correctly update until after you defeat the turret boss. (New to 2.1.1) Example
  • The double shot power-up can appear before you unlock it on the skill grid. (New to 2.1.1)
  • The double shot power-up does not move down like the other power-ups. (New to 2.1.1) Example
  • The game bugged out when my nSwitch Pro controller battery ran out. The game auto paused, at start of platform stage dialog, when it died. I had to alt-f4 to get out of the game. (New to 2.1.1) Example
  • The scrap from the second to last boss does not auto collect on death. (New to 2.1.1) Example
  • The final stage can create a path that makes the stage not able to be completed. (Still true in 2.1.1) Example
  • During the final stage the diagonal shot only shoots to the right. Sideways shot still shoots both ways. (New to 2.1.1) Example
  • Reinforced forge says "Gain armor equal to 0% of your current health..." (New to 2.1.1) Example
  • If you kill one of the twins while the other is off screen the trait screen pops up. When you select your trait you can kill the other twin and it offers another trait selection. (New to 2.1.1) Example
-Some balance issues. A few listed below:
  • Arcade mode is impossible to make it more than 2-3 bosses deep legitimately. You get one power-up per boss death and that is it. the enemy level ramps up too fast to make it far with just one upgrade. (Still true in 2.1.1)
  • The auto-fire pickup makes no sense. (new to 2.1.1)
  • I am not certain that boss rush mode can be beaten because of the bugs and balance issues. Which is interesting considering there are achievements to beat boss mode...
  • Some traits are downgrades instead of upgrades. Some also do not seem to have any benefit for level 2 and up. (New to 2.1.1)

In its current state, I do not recommend buying the game. There is groundwork for a good game here, but it has too many things that just do not make it fun.

Here are some shooters that you should try that are cheaper or same price:
Jets'n'Guns Gold
Jets'n'Guns 2
Lazy Galaxy: Rebel Story
Ikaruga
Steel Rain
Revolution Ace
Cosmonator
Space Elite Force I
Space Elite Force II
Sky Force Anniversary
Sky Force Reloaded
Raptor Call of the Shadows 1994 Classic Edition

The difficulty of this game is not the ships or the bullets or the bosses. The real difficulty of this game is your ships enormous hit-box size + slow ship speed versus any physical part of the stage, which is 1 hit kill. This is driven home by the fact that the last three stages are basically just tight corridor flying with small parts of the stage jutting far out for you to run into. The final stage is basically just nothing but the stages tight corridors, screen scrolling speed ups, and changing of the screen scrolling direction to try and run you into something. All of the bosses are a joke and are taken out with 1-2 specials of the green weapon module.

I would not recommend this to anyone. There are far better horizontal and vertical shooters that are cheaper or cost the same that have way more depth and better balance.

Positives:
+Didn't run into any bugs.

Neutral:
=Partial controller support. This would have been a positive, but it does not work at the splash screen or if you pause it during a stage. So just as it says, partial.
=Graphics. Nothing overly special, just average.
=Music. Again, nothing overly special.

Negatives:
-Zero damage feedback. Bullets pass through your ship without any visual or auditory feedback of damage. You just lose health during the time it takes to pass through you.
-Poorly balanced weapon modules. For regular shots, green is far better than red which is far better than blue. For specials against bosses, green is far ahead of blue which is far ahead of red (swap blue and red's special when using during stages). Green's ability to shoot up and down make it absolutely crucial to use late game and its special clears almost the whole screen and does a ton of damage. Red is the worst (regular shots and special) against bosses by an enormous margin.
-Weapon module pick up range is too large. You have to give a very wide berth around modules you do not want.
-Poorly balanced for later stages, dying once can snowball effect you regardless of lives remaining because you lose all power-ups on death and are reset back to three specials.
-Ship hit-box. Physical parts of the stage sometimes do not have to touch your actual ship to kill you, actual hit-box of your ship or maybe the stage hit-box is larger than the art. Enemy bullets also do damage to your ship for just being near, not actually touching.
-Enemy ship hit-box against gunfire. Your gunfire can pass right through ships if not right on centre. The enemy ships hit-box for your gunfire is also far smaller than the art of the ship. Or your bullets hit-box is far smaller than the art.
-Enemy ships can shoot and fly through the physical parts of the stage. This can fake you out and make you think you can fly through something that you cannot.
-Specials for green and blue weapon modules 1-2 shot bosses (except final boss because he has phases). Another balance issue, regular gunfire (even at max upgrade) takes FOREVER to kill a boss, but specials make it too easy.
-No replay-ability.
-No story.
-No continues.
-Price. $11.99 is ridiculous for this game for how little there is to it.

Here are some shooters that you should try that are cheaper or same price and have way more depth to them:
Jets'n'Guns Gold
Jets'n'Guns 2
Lazy Galaxy: Rebel Story
Ikaruga
Steel Rain
Revolution Ace
Cosmonator

Very poor port of an old DOS game.

Positives:
+Classic top-down shooter with currency system and upgrades.

Negatives:
-Some achievements have trouble working correctly. This requires you to do the achievement over and over again before it finally unlocks.
-Mouse function does not work very well at all. In windowed mode the curser can go outside the window and your ship will stop responding. The mouse also gets hung on imaginary objects at times requiring you to move it around real fast to free it.
-Controller support is poor and might require some tweaking to become functionable for some people.
-The save game system creates a new save every time you save. This normally would not be a problem except you are only allowed 10 save slots and gives an error when you try to save after that. Which requires you to go and delete enough saves to be able to save your game again.
-Cheatcodes from the original game were removed.
-Soundtrack from the original game was changed.
-Says it has cloud support but would not redownload my save sometimes.
-The developers were told about the bugs the game has and responded (in 2015) that they are working on it, but nothing has been fixed and the devs never came back.

This game was an extremely poor port. Which is funny considering the original game is also on Steam and works like it is suppose to and is the same price. The only two things it doesn't have over this release is achievements (which do not work right sometimes) and cloud support (which did not work right sometimes).

Get the original version here for the same price without all the headaches this version has.

Positives:
+Custom sized puzzles which allow larger ones than most nonogram games provide.
+Themes and theme customization.

Negatives:
-All of the puzzles are random gibberish rather than pictures (in exception to one hidden puzzle).
-The loading time of the game and of puzzle creation can be very long at times and crash the game at other times.
-Resolution restricts puzzle size (W) (H).
-Sometimes the game does not accept the puzzle (W) (H) you set and goes back to previous settings.
-Desperately needs a way to zoom in and out when doing large puzzles like (W)99 (H)50.
-Highlighting is turned off by default for some reason but can luckily be turned on as you desperately need it for huge puzzles.
-Can't make puzzles for workshop (which would be a huge plus), but you can make themes for the workshop. Which is weird and a bit pointless.
-Uses up a lot of system resources.

Neutral:
=Price. It would be a positive if not for all the negatives and the fact there is a much better nonogram game that is completely free.

It's not a very good nonogram game and can be frustrating at times. There are much better nonogram games on steam.
Picross Touch (Free)
Paint It Back (Has a demo)

This game is extremely terrible. It is repetitive beyond belief, even the music. Every stage is the same boring thing with the same boring enemies just re-skinned, just more of them. The ship collision is the worst thing in the game.

There are only a handful of item upgrades, which are all extremely temporary, and some of them are terrible. The wide web is the worst of them all for the fact you can get stuck in it and it lasts what feels like forever. Although, it can be good for the boss fights.

The basic price is ridiculous for what you get. Do not buy, even on a sale. The game is complete garbage at any price.

Positives:
Nothing

Neutral:
=Partial controller support despite not be advertised as having it.

Negatives:
-Ship collision. The ship collision is the worst thing in the game. When you bump into a ship you spin into a random direction. You can also get stuck between the islands for a good period of time while you are bouncing around between ships and land trying to get free.
-Every stage is essentially the same, enemies are just re-skinned.
-Music. Same song for every stage and it is annoying. Muting music is a must.
-Kraken bosses can get your boat stuck to them if you bump them just right.
-Boat bosses hit-box is much smaller than the art. Only the very middle of the boat registers attacks.
-Always spawn in the exact same place after death. This would not be bad except for the fact the enemy, even bosses, start shooting at the location before you spawn. So you can spawn in already being attacked.
-No onscreen timers or notification to show how long a positive or negative effect has left.
-Kamikaze dolphins will not track after kraken bosses.
-Wide area web's area of effect is larger than the art so you can get stuck in it just being near. Wide area net will end up hurting you more than helping you.
-Online scoreboard does not work.
-No replayability, not even for score since it seems to be broke.
-Game crashed several times during long periods of play.
-Beating story mode does not always unlock the next difficulty mode. I beat medium difficulty several times before it unlocked hard finally. I think this had a lot to do with the OS the game is running on. I originally was playing on WIN 10 and it never progressed. I played it on WIN XP once and it progressed.

Stay away from this game at all costs.

A decent classic styled adventure game. Very closely resembles games with SCUMM scripting from Lucasarts. Really captures the feel and nostalgia of those adventure games.

Some of the puzzles are obvious and easy to figure out, but did not deter from the overall experience too much. Even most of the achievements are pretty easy to figure out as well. You can get most of them by accident.

The first episode is very short. You should wait for a sale/bundle if you want to make sure you get your money's worth. The regular price of $10 is a bit high for how short it is.

A very good action/RPG indie game. Some traits have hilarious consequences. Expect to die a lot right off the bat. It will get easier as you get more upgrades.

Be warned though, it requires a lot of grinding to get enough money to buy your skills. Also, make sure you are sufficiently powered up before you beat the game each time. Each completion of the game ramps the default difficulty of the castle up. You might need to use grace runes to lower the level of the monsters to help you out if you beat it before you are ready.

I recommend that you do NOT buy this game. Most of the games substance was taken HEAVILY from Borderlands and Fallout 3/NV.

Id Software also added a LOT of racing as filler that you are forced to do to progress in some cases. Everytime a new race unlocked I wanted to tear my hair out because I KNEW that I was going to be forced to do races to progress further in the game.

The mega textures also take up a ton of space on your hard drive. Even with mega textures there are still tons of low res textures in the game. The mega textures also caused (some still persists despite patches from ID) a lot of problems in the game such as pop in and slow loading textures. This causes you to use unofficial tweaks to help get your game running better. How good or bad your PC was did not matter. People with very high end PC's had just as many problems.

Borderlands and Fallout 3/NV are far more worth your time and money. Buy these games instead.
