A very well balanced game, with tight controls and an amazing top-notch level design.

The combat and the game overall might be too easy for my usual taste, but the smooth movement and the things that you can learn throughout the game like how to mix special moves to improve your maneuverability really makes this game stand out for me. Absolutely recommend, and even if you're not usually fond of platformers, I feel like this is a great place to start as the only issue I've had gameplay wise was the camera not following the character smoothly in some of the harder difficulty challenges.

CUTE & FUNNY

=== EDIT ===

Memes aside, I waited for a long time for the full edition of this game, and it shows the love the team had for what they were working on. The game is absolutely great mechnically speaking, and it has a simple yet really fun combat system. Strangely deep for the kind of game it is, and the story, albeit not the best ever, is pretty good.

I recommend it if you like dark souls and platformers. A must have for sure.

A lot of people will try to compare The Citadel to the likes of Doom and Quake. I feel that it's much more than that, It's a unique Japanese game made by a great artist, and it saddens me that more games don't have the feel that this game does. Seeing enemies blow up in pieces and seeing all the over-exaggerated gore and blood coming out when you kill an enemy, while also having a super gloomy story line, really makes me hopeful for the next installment.

You know your game is pretty good at copying Souls games when the best you can make is a boss with a ton of target points that make your camera completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and when you die the camera janks into oblivion. Amazing job with this one.

The fact that when you get knocked down you can still get infinitely hit is amazing, borderline the most amateurish game I've ever played of this kind.

As an avid lover of souls-like games, I don't recommend this game the slightest, it's riddled with bugs, bad level and game design, and I would have requested a refund if I could (my playtime exceeded 2 hours). Having defended this game back when the Thespian Feast was released, it is a dissapointment to see the game has barely improved (if at all) and the final result is pretty bad.

EDIT: after writing this review I started over with a different build (i was doing reflex and conjecture or whatever the tech one is and instead just went full STR and used the tutorial level column for the rest of the game up to the final boss). I got to the true ending of the game completely by accident, I met NPC's that acted as if I had already interacted with them, only to find them in previous areas and acting as if we had never met. I did everything completely out of order, I did not understand anything about the plot, but it seems to be just a bootleg version of Event Horizon.

Nothing I wrote originally changed throughout this new gameplay, with the only difference being that I could now effortlessly stunlock bosses and even strong enemies into dying just by mashing attack. The damage I was dealing with inferior stats on STR were drastically super by second compared to my original build, and the difficulty of the game overall changed drastically from way too hard to way too easy at some times. I understand this is more or less common in other souls games, but I never saw the disparity this hard, and being someone that usually replays souls games multiple times with different builds (rogue, warrior, sorcerer, nightblade whatever) I never felt the difference this hard.

Overall the ending was lackluster, and I left knowing the same as I started, and honestly only finished this game out of the habit of finishing games I start. I hope the devs can learn from whatever they learned technically, and actually make a solid game with a solid storyline next time.

Definitely recommend this game. People will says it's a substitute for Armored Core. It's not even close to that, but it's pretty great. It's got a very cool arcade-y feeling to it, and even though customization has alot of numbers, it usually boils down to a very simplified customization, and you'll be hard-pressed to change your build midway through the campaign when you find the right combination of damage output and defense.

It's very much in line with Soul Eater, in the way that it has a hub, you accept missions separated by ranks, and that's how you progress the story.

The lore had potential for a lot but it's sadly boiled down, maybe due to time constraints, or perhaps lack of imagination. A lot of things are mentioned about certain characters, and they're never explained in depth, usually just resuming to "ahah experiments were done and that's my back story, we won't ever mention this again and it won't be relevant ever".

Overall, I definitely recommend this game for the FUN factor alone, if you're looking for a deep story or deep customization, this might not be for you, but the game personally had enough variety of enemies and mechanics to keep me entertained through the campaign and side missions, and I never felt I was wasting time playing it.

Record of Lodoss is a pretty OK-ish game. I wish I could rate it "meh" but honestly it flips more towards "not recommended" than "recommended".

The game pales in comparison to Touhou - Luna Nights both in terms of visuals and mechanics. It's not that the game is "uglier" - it's not - or that it doesn't have cool mechanics of it's own, but it doesn't come close in terms of how memorable it is.

To start off, you get strong way too quickly, to the point where you're basically breezing through almost every boss at the first encounter. Even bosses with multiple forms, you quickly wonder "is there going to be an actual stronger form afterwards?" only to just end the fight in a non-climatic way.

There's a spirit system in the game, where you can control both wind and fire spirits, and they're responsible for about 50% of the gameplay mechanics, maybe a bit more. You have to change between fire and wind to deal damage to enemies or overcome obstacles, but due to the level system where your damage raises and your health regens based on the level of your spirit, you can quickly become way overpowered if you learn how to balance between the wind and fire spirit. Your spirit level is separate from wind and fire, and you get "exp" for a spirit by using the opposite spirit when killing enemies. At first it might seem like it's harder to improve the spirit you want, but it quickly becomes the opposite - you can only get to max level 3 on the spirits and lose a level on the current spirit you're using every time you're hit, and using the opposite spirit means that you can get hit as many times as you want provided you're switching between them often enough (this is mostly true for bosses that drop the spirit exp like crazy).

Most of the map looks same-ish, and being a Metroidvania game very remnant of Symphony of the Night, it really pales in comparison. It's separated into chapters (the chapters' names are not translated from Japanese), and I have no idea why: the map is interconnected like any metroidvania, separating the game into weird "chapter change" pauses really doesn't make sense, specially since nothing is stopping you from just going back the very instant you enter the new chapter area, and it's not relevant to the story build up or exploration. I guess it's because of the demo version which only had chapter 1 I believe (?) but in the full game it really doesn't add up.

Lastly, and I am totally aware that this is a personal problem, but I feel like it's important enough to mention since most of the people playing this game will face the same issue: Record of Lodoss War is based on an rpg series of the same name that exist almost exclusively in Japan - being a game that heavily draws from its lore, it becomes really hard to really grasp the importance of the characters being introduced, as they are NOT original or exclusive to this game (with the exception of one or two I believe) and the story focuses on key points from previous games/media, and even though you don't have to know the background of the story, it really makes it hard to truly appreciate what you are looking at, and sometimes even understanding it at all.

That being said, I really ONLY recommend this game to people who are really out of options for better Metroidvania games (as I feel replaying SOTN or Touhou - Luna Nights would have been a better use of the time spent playing this game) or to people who are already fans of the Record of Lodoss War series. I wish I had a better opinion on this game, as it was gifted to me by someone who was important to me, but alas it was a dissapointment.

I think this game has a very rough start. As a big fan of the first Surge, I found the story lacking, and the writing was way off. There are plenty of graphic bugs, and even with a good rig I had to put the graphics all to low to be able to play, because otherwise at high settings the game is just awful to look at. There are terrible lighting issues and bad transitions between lighted areas and dark areas. However, if you can buy this game at a discount, and manage to endure all these issues like I did, the game is pretty decent.

The original resident evil 2 is one of my favorite video games ever (if not my favorite), and probably the second game I ever played, being the original resident evil the first one, and having played both on windows 98.

Playing this game was a huge surprise for me. If someone was to say the original RE2 was to be replaced forever with re2make, I would be ok with it. It's truthful to its origins, and it has most of the elements from the original game.

I was afraid of playing it because friends of mine that were not familiar with the original RE2 showed me and told me things about the game that made me think too much of the content I liked the most was cut out, but in reality it barely feels like it's missing. (except for the plant zombies having being redesigned in a worse way)

The way they made the second run for each character does not match at all in terms of timelines and locations. It was done better in the original. Some people are making a big deal out of this and I understand where they are coming from, but I can only imagine the amount of hard work the developers had to go through to make the two story modes available, let alone a 2nd run of each with unique item placement and even zones that can only be accessed by either Leon or Claire. It did not bother me.

Over all as an experience, I think this might have been the best singleplayer story-driven game I've played in the past 10 years, and almost no game I've played in that period came close.

I am yet to try the extra campaigns, so I might actually find the game even better (hardly worse I think) after I do so.

Tried playing it. Too many sound issues. Nothing fixes it and the devs clearly don't care. I'm on Windows 10, so I advise anyone under the same OS to not purchase this game.
