Don't bother with this game. It's going to shutdown and I'm sure that even the single player will be unavailable (I have to enter a queue to play single player ffs).

I got this game from the October Humble Bundle Monthly Deal, and was one of the secret games that only reveal at the end of the month. Truth is: I never heard of this game, know no one that plays it and had no idea what the game was about.

I like robots and mechs in most games, so I was happy with the design from the get go. I'm a partial fan of roguelikes, but most of them don't catch my attention for more than 1 hour because, in my opinion, they focus way too much on the roguelike elements of RNG and dying makes you loose every progress without adding innovative features and giving you exploration options and the like.

Sadly, this game suffers from the same problems, albeit with the benefit of giving you research points and permanent upgrades/modules that you can choose from the start menu.

With this in mind, It's hard for me to justify why I play this game, and why I keep coming back to it. The main reasons I find this game so satisfying are probably the following:

- Nice weapon diversity, with different playstyles depending on what weapons/items you get and the class you select;
- The reloading system, which at first I found annoying, actually grows on you and I miss it on other games with this kind of gameplay;
- The kill time for the enemies is very reasonable, and definitely feels like you're fighting enemies on the same level as you, where you can kill them fast or get killed fast;
- There's ironically a lot of strategic elements to this game, and you have to learn what you can use as cover or what lets you shoot through;
- The boss fights are fun and surprising, with a feeling similar to a bullet hell game;
- Not sure if the maps are created randomly or are chosen from a pre-created set of maps, but they're definitely fun and feel well crafted;
- The game seems to get frequent updates, and it doesn't feel like the developers are abandoning it anytime soon.

The only issues I have with the game come from the fact that it's almost fully RNG like most roguelikes I get tired of, and there's not a solid story or things to do outside the main game mode. I have not played multiplayer and I don't intend to, so for that I recommend you check a different review.

Overall I recommend this game, even though I think 20 bucks is a bit too much for a game that has no story mode or other game modes. Anyone that likes roguelikes will definitely feel at home here, but I also recommend this game for anyone else who never experienced a roguelike or don't usually like them, because they might be surprised with the mechanics that might make up for it, as they have with me.

Definitely Janky (it's in the version name lol) but that being said I can appreciate the obvious humour when it comes to releasing such a barebones version. I respect the guts (or lack of brains) behind this decision, and I do not regert my purchase. i was a huge fan of Postal 2, and have waited a long time for a worthy successor, and this has all the elements to make it work.

Those not familiar with Postal 2, I'd recommend you wait until there's a stable version released with rebindable keys (switching items is impossible for me in Europe because the pre-assigned keys are [ and ] which do not exist as individual keys on my keyboard) but I do recommend giving a look at this for anyone that was already familiarized with Postal 2.

EDIT:

I checked out the Trello board for this game, and apparently there's a cheesy way of rebinding the keys until they finish the in-game menu:

This mod, unfortunately, has very little actual role-playing in it.

I know this sounds like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ excuse to complain, since it has what most people understand a role-playing game should have, but when a game announces as a role-playing game and doesn't let you play YOUR way within the limitations of its world, then it's not a role-playing game at all.

I was waiting for this mod to release on Steam ever since I heard about it, and I was happy to find out it had finally been released, after many delays (which didn't bother me at all, it is a FREE game after all).

I start the game and am greeted with a really long prologue. However, for as big as it might be, it has an interesting rhythm and story to it. I was getting into the story, and going about, when I get close to the end of the prologue. That's when i start noticing the issues. It's very clear that the first people you meet (the apothecary and his friend) are unkillable NPCs. Lets take into consideration that there's no indication that you are still in the prologue at this point, and that if I was someone that just crashed into this island and had to fight a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of creatures to get to this point, I'd want to avoid these people instead of engaging with them. However, knowing that it probably had some relevance in advancing the plot or setting some basic gameplay rules and tutorials, I stuck with it and kept pushing forward. Then it becomes pretty obvious that you're getting visions of the future, with explosions and NPCs dying, and although for you it's clear as daylight that you should do something, you're forced to sit in a chair while you see everything going down.

You get knocked down, and you wake up with some guy forcing quests onto you. Who is this? Is he really who he claims he is? Did he really save you, or was he the one responsible for the attack you witnessed early on, where you see no clear indication of who is behind it?

I try to cheat this by attacking this NPC, only to find out he is like a ghost, with my attacks completely going through him without even aggroing him. Is this plot related? No, it's just protection because the game decided he is important to the plot.

Is this enough to make me quit? No, I can fully understand that the writers wanted to keep the integrity of the story they wrote, and within moments I was back to the place where I was attacked. I tried backpeddling to the tutorial zone, only to be greeted with invisible walls and missing terrain leading to the void. I didn't think much of it, as this game is, after all, just a mod, and was made free, so it's normal that somethings had to be cut back and there were other priorities than to just go and try to look for all places where there are visual glitches or missing models.

Unlike some people in the reviews, I did not have any problems with the combat. I quickly became a rogue assassin, and tried my best to play with the nerfed version of stealth this game has, which I found to be more challenging (in a good way) than Skyrim's stealth. However, my opinion on this quickly changed, as the terrain is often badly modeled, leading you to be able to exploit the terrain very easily to attack every mob from a safe place without barely any challenge. Silly me disregarded this too, as some old RPGs have alot of exploits and they aren't any worse for it, in fact some are improved by exploits, like Morrowind's stun enchantments and crazy levitation spells.

What really broke the game for me, was the fact that, as I arrived at the first village, already having explored the surround areas, mines, castles, and wrecked boats, along with some highwaymen and rogue mages hideouts,I was greeted with a woman that called me slur like "coalskin" or something like that, and claimed I was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ every men in the vacinity (my character was female).

I took this to heart and slain the woman. It doesn't seem to me to be an irrealistic request to be able to kill NPCs in a role-playing game when they strike you the wrong way, but soon after I had another NPC on me attacking with a bow. He had a unique name, so I struck him down, only for him to kneel and get back on his feet moments later. Skyrim does this with essential characters, so it didn't bother me. What really drove me to quitting this game was that, at that moment I got surrounded by guards, only to find out that THESE TOO ARE IMMORTAL.

I loaded back to before attacking the named NPC, and got to a guard to try and pay a fine or something, only to be instantly aggroed. I tried loading back and going into an inn to try and speed up some time sleeping to see if the aggro went down to pay a fine. Instead, when I got up from bed and was about to leave the Inn, everyone inside the Inn that was friendly to me before I got into bed instantly aggroed me, and guards spawned inside the Inn as well.

I exploited this by going into a random NPC's house and staying there for a while hidden. When I got out I had an NPC that I had to talk to for the main quest standing in front of me, and I was able to engage in conversation. After I was done talking to him, another NPC appeared, a witch of some sorts, that was friendly to me. I spoke to her, she gave me a quest, and without any guards appearing near me, as soon as the dialogue was over, she started pummeling me and aggroing me along side everyone in the village.

As someone that usually plays rogue, and played rogue in skyrim, I bypassed this kind of issue by killing the guards and safely escaping the village, but this proves to be impossible since the guards are immortal. I searched up online for the reason why so many NPCs seem immortal, and I found a post by some mod on the official forums, claiming that this was done to protect the player and NPCs in the village from attacking creatures, because they couldn't find a way for this not to happen (in this case I actually defend not having open villages and instead do it like Skyrim if you can't fix such a basic system in your game).

Overall this game is probably good if you like to follow straight and narrow paths and don't do much outside the norm, which makes me wonder why there's an option to aggro immortal NPCs or steal or commit any crime at all. It's a shame too, as I found the way the map was designed to be more interesting than Skyrim, which for me was the weakest elder scrolls game map-wise. The way you have items hidden in the map that work like collectibles or the "Ice Claws" that you can consume to permanently increase your carry weight are awesome additions, but sadly they cannot overshadow what I found to be terrible mechanics in an otherwise great looking game.

I'm looking forward to trying this game again if these problems are ever addressed, but obviously I don't feel like I'm in any position to give advice or demand anything from a FREE game, this is just my personal opinion on it.

While I enjoyed playing Shrouded In Sanity, I never fully grasped the plot of the world, or even of the characters.
Skautfold: Usurper not only advances the plot further, but also helps you better appreciated Shrouded In Sanity.

The game is a metroidvania very similar to Symphony Of The Night. While some people might claim it takes direct inspiration from the Souls Series, the only thing that it inherits from it is the dash, which actually works in a different way, so even that is questionable. Every other element of the game can be directly compared to SOTN (with the exception of the Elder stats, which is similar to Bloodborne's Arcane and Insight stats).

The map is small once you understand the layout, perhaps about half the size of Super Metroid's full map, but even so it is built in clever ways that will make you want to search every nook and cranny for secrets.

I definitely recommend this game for any metroidvania lovers, and definitely to anyone who played the original Shrouded In Sanity and either didn't understand it completely or wants to know more about the plot.

Definitely a game I can recommend. If you look past the graphics, the game is a real gem, worth playing not only for the survival, but for all the great adventures one can have.

On a server playing with friends, I was left behind (of my own volition) after my crew left the planet with promises of coming back. It was an extremely hostile planet. I was stranded with only a small vessel and no way of coming back to our home planet where our base was. My vessel didnt have a warp drive, and I was only equipped with a pulse rifle and some bullets. In a matter of hours after finding myself in this drastic situation, I conquered a bunch of enemy outposts to try and gather the most resources I could. I took over an NPC ship full of drones, I did it all. I traded with the local trading station to get credits to finance myself. I lost my ship and had to swim back and forward between islands, facing harsh weather and creepy deep waters to get all the materials I needed. I finally had enough to make my Capitol Vessel. The feeling of finally arriving at my home planet was hard to compare with anything I ever felt in any survival game.

My adventure was completed. Only one of the many I had in this game.

As a great Metroid fan, I had SteamWorld Dig on my FAVORITES category on steam.

When I finished Steamworld Dig 2, it too, I added to that category.

The story is amazing, the level design is so fresh, and it basically does everything steamworld dig 1 does, only better.

The ending is quite moving.

I strongly recommend this game to absolutely everyone.

This game is quite the bomb. I was never a fan of old top down shooter games, because I always found it to be a weird perspective for an action-shooter game. Even as a huge lover of Contra III for the snes, I always found the top down levels to be completely horrid.

Then I played this game. It's everything you could expect from a cyberpunk world, mixed with that really good feeling of arcade and gore.

I'm mostly writing this review because of the steam awards badge, but it's totally worth a try.

EDIT: My original claim that the graphics were stolen from other games was corrected by the game's designer in the comments of this review. The sprites were apparently NOT stolen from other games, and were simply an artistic direction the designer decided to go with, albeit one that I cannot understand.

========================================================================

Finished the game in 60 minutes. It's pretty bad I must say. What people are calling "a weird art-style" just means that the art direction was all over the place and wasn't sure of where to go next. I don't know if the designer didn't at some point just give up and steal random sprites from the internet, as most of the art in the game is made with fluid vectorized graphics but then ocasionally you see random out-of-place sprites that seem clearly from other games. There are graphic glitches everywhere, the character movement is full of bugs, and although I finished the game, I'm very dissapointed as I was expecting a decent adventure game, and instead was served a horrible early 2000's flash game.

What pisses me off the most is how the screenshots in the steam library litteraly show off all the decent art that exists in this game, because everything else in the game besides what you see in those screenshots are completely out of place.

For those praising this game: I have no idea what game you played, it was definitely not the same game as me.

PS: I have no idea what was up with the anime girls in this game. They seem like they were taken from random internet imageboards and just placed on this game, as they have no connection to anything else and nothing shows the same artstyle as them.
