This game took the criticisms of every other farming game out there and improved upon it.

TL;DR: Buy it, but only if you love animal simulation games.

This game is a childhood favorite of mine! Some of my favorite memories involve playing on a very old version of WolfQuest. I'd so often reinstall it on the awful family laptop, roleplay by myself and make various wolves, sometimes even pretending to be a fox. JuThis was way back when dispersal wolves had dialogue boxes and pups would instantly die upon touching water! (Or at least, that latter half sure felt like it happened a lot) In fact, most of the wolf facts I know today are thanks to this game.
When I heard some years ago that WolfQuest is still a thing and what's more, it had a new anniversary addition, I was absolutely excited! I bought the game late last year and I've been having quite a fun time seeing the many improvements and sinking myself into Yellowstone Creek once more. So many things child me has dreamed of are here, such as playing as your pups and having a family tree. It's like having my childhood dreams suddenly realized, and with so much more to come, it's exciting!

Nostalgia glasses aside, time to look at this game through a more focused, potential buyer lense!
I recommend WolfQuest wholeheartedly, but I think it should be noted that this game is in a very niche area. It's a realistic wolf simulation game and, being a simulator, your life as a wolf has the risk of becoming repetitive and dull, or just flat out overwhelming. The main meat of the game is hanging around Slough Creek, raising your pups until you finish all the quests the game wants you to do. This usually involves keeping your territory maintained and guarded, defending your pups against predators, hunting the local ungulates (hoofed animals), maybe biting a fox or coyote just because it ran past you... It's all rather fun, but is definitely not for everyone. If you're not invested in your wolves or territory or, in general, only really care about finishing the quests and being done with the game, then this game can quickly become repetitive and even downright tedious.

Another potential issue is that this game is in early access. Personally, early access games don't bother me, but I can definitely see why it'd make buyers weary. For the most part, this game actually feels completed. The core mechanics are largely fleshed out. There's a family tree, the ability to play as your pups, there's a recently added injury system, your mate and pups can have personalities, there's an "ironwolf" mode where your wolf only has one life and if you die, you lose that wolf altogether. This game gets updated regularly and often, and each time there's usually something added that you didn't even know you wanted. There are more than enough things in this game to keep you satisfied for a while and even more on the way. The devs are even super transparent about everything!
If anything, the reason this game is likely still in early access is because there's an entire portion of the game that's missing where your pups are meant to grow up into yearlings, then you go on to teach them how to hunt and prepare them for the wolf world. Originally, this was meant to become a DLC episode. However, the devs recently scrapped parts of this idea and are instead reworking the game's progression to go from a place-to-place sort of thing, to one long "saga". Instead of every episode taking place on their own preset map, they can all be started and finished within the same location you initially chose.
Of course, because this idea involves reworking things with how WolfQuest currently operates (and the difficulties of adding in yearlings and this new episode itself), this update likely won't be coming for a while. Until that update releases, I doubt this game will be coming out of early access anytime soon. Fortunately, with how complete this game already feels, you can pretty much sit back and enjoy the game as it is right now and wait for that update to suddenly make an appearance.

I know I basically just wrote an entire essay for a funny wolf game, but I've been a huge fan of it for years and admire that the devs are still working on this after so long. They are still putting their heart into it and I honestly respect that! I wanted to give it a fair, thorough review. So in short, if you like animal simulation games or just are REALLY into wolves, this game will be perfect for you! Save for that "yearling" phase I've mentioned, this game has everything you could ask for in a realistic wolf simulator and with much more on the way, it's a crime to pass on this game. Otherwise, if you just aren't into this genre or would rather wait for that yearling update to make it "perfect", then of course, it simply isn't for you (at least not yet, anyway).

This is simultaneously one of the best and hardest games I have ever played. I found this through a friend's recommendation + it kept getting recommended to me after playing Hollow Knight and honestly? Yeah I can see why. Both games have a huge interconnected world, both games depend more on the player's own skills to progress than anything else, both games are polluted with enemies that want to kill you, but only this game makes you feel like even when you DO have the skillset and the upperhand, you're STILL at the game's mercy.
I recommend this game, but it definitely is not for everyone. It took me a year to get into it and if the player achievement percentages aren't a warning for what you're truly getting into, then nothing else will. This is the type of game where you have to get used to failing. Even when you're good, you're still likely to die. This game is very unfair and even on the easiest setting, it can be quite unforgiving in certain areas (for anyone who's played the game, you KNOW what areas I'm talking about). But if all those disclaimers don't deter you (or maybe they even fuel you), then you absolutely should play this game. Despite all the failing and frustration, when you finally DO get through multiple cycles without dying or get through the harder areas or even feel like you're somewhat getting the hang of it, the satisfaction is amazing. I hate this game but I also love it. It's a very turbulent relationship, but overall, this is a very unique experience and everyone should play this at least once.

As someone who accidentally put 1,000+ hours into this game, I say buy it. At first you'll end up forming a nice little colony that dies because the local bear went mad and you didn't have anyone with a good shooting skill to take care of it. Before long, you'll question why your game takes 20+ minutes to load but then remember it's because you're now addicted to the steam workshop (full of amazing modders and way too many good things to download) and you now have at least 120 mods running all at once. You won't care though, it's rimworld time. So then you create a long lasting colony and have it last for 6 whole years before you either a.) decide to start a new or b.) have your entire colony wiped out because you decided to let some random person with horrible skills into your colony after saving them from a raid but this raid was so strong and had all the high tech armor so they completely plowed through your colony which only became rich because you grew too much devilstrand and corn and have a few too many mammoth tusks.

So in short, yes, buy this game. It's an experience you'll never forget.

When I first got this game, I wasn't too sure what to make of it. I was never into platformers of any kind, let alone difficult ones that require a strategy or skill. But Hollow Knight is special. The art style is cute and the color palette really sets the scene for the type of world you live in. The bosses, although difficult, give you such a great feeling of accomplishment once you beat them that it's insane. The fact that this game is so cheap is criminal because it's worth every penny and so much more. If you're not into platformers or difficult games, Hollow Knight may very well be the one exception because it sure is for me.
