I'd put off writing this review for a long while.

I've loved ONI since way back and I think that still hasn't changed. Yes, I may have gotten burnt out every now and then from the sheer amount of information I have to intake, but that doesn't take away from the love and charm this game has.

It is quite difficult. It's a brain teaser. And my God, if you love to solve problems and try to survive your own way, this game is for you. There are so many ways you can go about making your base, but at the same time there are so many ways that it can go wrong. I loved trying to find ways to efficiently go about things, only to find they didn't work as intended or had a unnoticed side effect. Even after hundreds of hours, I still don't fully understand everything that goes on, especially after the large content addition with the release. But hey! Klei is still working on it and I love that.

Cheers!

Sometimes, I would love to kill that little white(or yellow or red) turd if only it didn't die from something else first.
Honestly, the game is difficult. And I know it's received a lot of bash because of that difficulty or several other things in the game. I can see where those reviews and criticisms are coming from and I can sympathise with them. They do drive a fair point that it may not be for all and I do agree with that. But I still recommend you to play it because I love it to bits and, let's be honest: if you love a game enough, you'd recommend it to anyone regardless simply because you really enjoy it. As for my review, here's my two cents (and $16.48CAD because I bought the game and OST myself).

It's a charming game. I will try my best to not spoil anything while I give my opinions and thoughts to you plainly. I fell in love with the style of the game, the smol cute slugcat and the vastness unknown of the world. It seemed magical to me as I explored, searched for food and safety. But at the same time, it was so real. As real as a survival game can get if you're a small creature, situated comfortably near the bottom half of the food chain. Survival of the fittest, baby! Unfortunately, when you start out, you're probably not the fittest and you're certainly not the smartest either. It's a big learning process, with many of the game's workings requiring you to discover them yourself. As such, you can expect to die. Many times.

I've heard of complaints about the controls or physics of the slugcat. Yeah, it may not seem the smoothest, nor is the game very forgiving of your mistakes. Fortunately, there are many things you are able to do to aid your slugcat's seemingly sluggish movement. Unfortunately, you do not find out about these things easily. The game teaches you the bare minimum to get by before promptly tossing you into the wilderness and letting you fend for yourself. So many things, you will learn through either trial and error, mistakes or from searching online. I highly suggest against the last option as it can also bring spoilers or as I feel, ruin the innocence of a first playthrough. I made that mistake and wish I didn't. It may be frustrating and lead to more deaths than necessary, but I myself would suggest to go through this game blind, the first time through.

Everything else. What should I say?
I loved the sounds and music of the game. They fit very well and immersed me in the world.
I adored how mysterious the game was, feeling like I was actually exploring and discovering new things as I travelled farther from the starting point.
The enemies, while can range from annoying to downright unfair, also gave a heavy sense of immersion into the world. It legitimately felt like I was in the wild, in the middle of the food chain. Not in the center of the universe with everything revolving around me, the protagonist. But as if the world was what it was. Natural.
The story of the world. Wildly obscure and horrifyingly hard to actually get without outside help. But it was very intriguing. It's also optional. As it is, while you're a 'protagonist', you're not the world's main one. If there even is one. You just so happen to play as something in the world.

All in all, I would recommend it. It will bring some frustration and may be not to your taste, but if it is I hope you'll give it a try and find as many reasons to love it as I have reasons to want to kill that little white turd.

Mmmn~
This game.... Ooof, what should I say? I've played this game a loooot and there's so many things I'm still finding about it. I mean, yeah, it's a free game and there's no set story line or anything to complete but something about this game keeps me still playing it.

I find the combat to be relatively simple but at the same time, it can be much more complex when you take it a step further. It's a standard 2D platformer shooting game involving many different weapons that could be utilized to kill your foes. However, that isn't all. Some weapons are used to get around easier, where if you know proper tricks and practice enough, you can essentially fly across from one side of the map to the other, sneaking past enemies.
And that's not all! In addition to the classic Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch, there are other game modes you can select including Capture the Flag, Survival, Zombrains and (if anyone decides to host it) Climb. And yes, you CAN host your own servers! Granted, you'll have to portforward in able to do so but don't let that deter you! Spasman, our ever..... trusty and hardworking developer (Hehehe, jokes. Spasman really is great.) typed up an entire little comprehensive guide on how to portforward, easy enough to follow that even I would be able to understand. Heh, now if only I actually could access the proper locations..... Ah, I digress.

As mentioned before, the combat is relatively simple but can get complex due to some of the wide variety of weapons available. Damage and mechanics are different among all of them and how you best use them is up to you. Now, you may hear about some people salting about certain guns and that's totally fine! It's kinda normal that there are some certain guns that are stronger when in the hands of certain people.

Speaking of salting, the community in Bman is also pretty nice. You'll find a wiiiide variety of people here, some of which you may regret meeting but also many others who are great to just play with and chat casually while shooting each other to death! And don't be afraid about being a newbie, everyone has to start somewhere. I mean, I wasn't too much until I was taken under the wing of several pros in Team Deathmatch where I really began to flourish (or fail to) and show my true colours (they aren't pretty. They're dazzling.)

Would I recommend this game? Definitely to give it a spin.
Would I say it's the best game? Probably not, if I were to be honest. There ARE some irks here and there but I still find this to be a great game I keep coming back to.
Is it easy? There's always room for improvement.

Anything else I'd like to say?
THANKS SPASMAN!!!
