I have approximately 4000 hours on Runescape. Starting in 2004 and essentially retiring in 2015. I stopped playing due to having other games to play and having got years of enjoyment out of RS I decided to take a long break. With the announcement of it coming to Steam with achievements I decided this is this time to come back to Gielinor and start working on my 99's again.

Runescape throughout the years has received constant updates and still has a very active community.

The community has split since the introduction of RS3 and EOC and now you have Runescape (Rs3) and Old School Runescape (OSRS) both of which are fantastic, however the OSRS community remains very hostile towards RS3 which is a shame. As an original Runescape player starting in 2004 I understand the changes. The game has been made easier to a degree and more accessible. The grind is easier with skill X/All for example and buying and selling is substantially easier since the GE arrived. However the game is still great. OSRS will be coming to Steam Q1 of 2021

One thing with modern Runescape which I don't care for is all the cosmetic stuff in it now and there are options to use real money for loot chests and other things. (All of this is optional and is not needed to play) but sometimes the raw gritty feel of the old days is lost with all these bright colourful cosmetic appearances.

Runescape is a juggernaut of the MMORPG genre and I'm not sure I can say anything here that people don't already know. It has F2P and P2P usually new people will start off in free world learn the game and level up. Then they move on to members which opens up all skills and quests etc.

Hundreds of quests, unique characters, great music and now some quests are fully voiced, 28 varied skills (even a couple of new ones since I stopped) If your not in the mood for fighting you can do many other things. Craft, farm, build, smith, mine the list goes on. Perhaps partake in the noble art of bank standing and chatting for hours on end, its so easy to burn hours up just chatting at the bank/GE. Plenty of distractions and diversions and mini games. Community chat groups for things like Evil Tree and Shooting Star, Clans with their own citadels for extra community XP.

Nostalgic, consuming and a fantastic experience.
