Early Access Review
all this time and effort put into this game just to find out there's AI slop used for the pictures of the animals. Like, you couldn't have just used crappy MS Paint art.

I like what this DLC offers, but I think this should be a lot cheaper for what it offers. Storms barely have any effect, and are more or less a nice touch to make the galaxy feel more alive. The negative reviews for this are 50/50, like sure this DLC is pricey all things considered, but most of the other complaints are things you can alter in-game.

The main campaign starts off pretty well. The wilderness mechanic seems fun, however it is not utilized as much as it should be. The first map is fairly small, and one would be forgiven to assume you can expand into the wilderness zone. The new fuel mechanic is interesting, however can be confusing and tedious to keep refueling. In addition, some of the buildings require refueling. This system is more tedious than it needs to be, and seems like they only added it to pad out gameplay. This raises the main issue with the campaign, it’s small. Very small. Each mission takes maybe an hour at most, and there’s only like 5 of them. It also ends on a note that makes it seem like there is more, but at best seems like DLC bait, at worse they just couldn’t be bothered making more missions.

Some more issues I have with overall gameplay though, the first being the outposts. You can assign rangers, choppers, and vets to each one. The main issue with this is that the range can be fairly small, requiring multiple to a single pen. Secondly, if a dinosaur were to harm or damage a ranger, the chopper would be sent out to tranq them. Regardless if the dino is still attacking a ranger vehicle or not, you will be forced to transport them again. The main overall issue I had with the game is how expensive it is to remove the forest. What in JWE would cost 50k, costs 1 million in JWE2. It’s absurd, and as someone who likes making clean pens and having a clear area, it’s seriously annoying and not needed.

But the good from the game. The main thing to take away is that the campaign was fun, and from my experience with the first chaos mission, they will also be fun. And they seem like they are going to be much longer than the campaign missions, if not some taking as long as the main campaign.

So overall, the game has its issues. It’s short, fun, has some bad prices changes, has some good price changes, has some good new mechanics, has some bad new mechanics.

Overall an expensive fun time. For 20 bucks, you can waste away a better part of your day for a 7ish hour long journey to rebuild the, or at least a version of it, original park.

The main gripes I have with this DLC is that the second part, where you go to site B, does not seem like it's needed. It felt more like filler, having no real purpose other than establishing off-site hatching. Which is fine, I just wish there was more to it. Site B is a big island with an equally big number of various dinosaur species. It would have been nice to have a big map with lots of dinosaurs on it, with some more variety than what we got here. Secondly, the whole sabotage plot line just vanishes after one attack, and does not come back until the end. Which to be fair, is both good and bad. Good in the sense one does not have to worry about it, bad in the sense it just seems like a useless plot line that can be thrown out for something else. The third main issue is the raptor pen, you basically just whisk away the starting raptors only for them to come out at the end for a messy finale. Four, the amount of variety we need to get 5 stars is a bit much, especially for the length of this DLC. If maybe there were more content to drag out play time it would have been a nice amount, but in reality it just kind of makes you wanna spam out random dinosaurs to hit it, since by the end game you will have reached the rating required without even hitting 10 different dinosaurs. The fifth reason is how the aviary is shoehorned in, like, you get it, hatch some Pteras, and then move on. It would have been nice if there was more to it than that. Maybe having more species to put inside, needing multiple aviaries, having them break loose maybe, that kind of stuff. Lastly, There are three people you need to work with, but also five, it's a bit confusing. It would have been better to group it as a Hammond vs others kind of thing. Where working with Hammond can cause the others to get upset, or working with the others gets Hammond a bit annoyed. As it stands, there is really no reason to even interact with them, as you do not need the things they give you to go through the story. This of course, should change. There should be a reason to interact with them.

For the positives, I really just had fun with it. Not much else to it.

Overall, I think the "mixed" rating is deserved. Both islands in this DLC have their ups and downs.

First:
The main issue with the starting mission is that it feels extremely rushed, which while I can see why they would add that to it for obvious reasons, I just did not enjoy it. I do not know exactly on how timed it is, I did not want to stick around and find out, but I feel like it should not have been. I think there should be a challenge mode where it is timed. Although this probably exists, I just have not checked yet. Another gripe I have about it is how limited you are in building things, I sort of understand why, but I feel like we should have been able to at least build more energy buildings do it feels less cramped. I also feel like the side mission to capture a picture of each type of dinosaur is misplaced in this fast-paced mission, at least that may have just been me since I did it during the curing part of the mission.. Overall I just felt like this part of the DLC was too fast-paced for an otherwise slow-paced game. That is not to say I did not have fun though, I enjoyed this part of the DLC despite what I see as flaws.

Second:
Adding on to the first part, the end of the first island has you collect 8 species to save, and I have a hunch that what you save is what is brought over. But either way, the second part of the DLC has you feeling disappointed, you only get a handful of dinosaurs to play around with, and a big 5500 rating gap to fill in order to get 5 stars. And with guests seemingly not wanting to use any buildings, you want to build small and keep things close. This ruins the point of having such a nice, fairly flat island to play around with. By the time I got 5 stars I had barely half the island used. The new food system is a nice addition, however I think it should be something that replaces the food system we get in the base game. It adds a layer of micromanaging and planning to how you go about your park. That being said, I find the limiting of one garden per island annoying, as it can hamper how one goes about their variety for their park. That being said, the first half of this part was fairly slow, with the second half primarily being just saving up money and trying to get 5 stars. The tour system was confusing at first, but in reality it's just a better gyrosphere that can go to other exhibits if they are linked to one another.

Conclusion: Overall this DLC took me about 10 hours to complete. It goes from feeling fast-paced to slow-paced, and becomes a waiting game. The new dinosaurs are nothing special, and I feel like the DLC does not introduce them into the story well. They are just pushed onto you, with only the Alberto being excusable. For $15 I would say it's not really worth it, especially for what we get. The only way I see this DLC ever being a good DLC is a serious overhaul of the first island, and add more guests for the second part so adding many buildings to many exhibits is rewarded, I swear only one building ever reached the max guests for one employee the entire time. Expand the new food system, replace the old one. Expand it to meat as well, and let us have more farms, or bigger ones. A little farm simulator in our dino park builder would be kinda nice imo.

It adds a lot of features that enhance how the game plays. I would say that it should be intertwined with the campaign if you get it, as it does seem to be more of a epilogue campaign, with your new features and dinosaurs being useless unless you enjoy the post-campaign gameplay.

I would say it is pretty pricey for what it gives, but if you enjoy this game and see it on sale, it might be worth a shot at playing it. Might also give you a reason to replay the campaign, adds more worth the the money you spent on the base game

The game lacks any value in replaying unless it's been a while. However, the campaign is fun and will definitely take some time getting done. I would say to not think of this game like the Zoo Tycoon games, which are more sandbox and less campaign driven, but think of it as any other game. From my experience, I would say that the time to beat the campaign at the price given is about the same as other AAA games. I have beat more modern Assassin Creed games in less time that in took me to beat this game, if not double that.

The game also lacks in dealing with guests, and learning how to properly get 5 stars and manage satisfaction rates is tricky and not exactly properly explained (It's based on proximity to observation buildings).

However, dinosaurs.

DLC is expensive and overpriced though, the Dr Wu DLC was a cakewalk and lasted me about the same it takes me to complete a single Island. However I do plan on buying them when a good sale comes along.

New Review: Before I rated this DLC poorly, well yea, it was premature. To keep it short, I really like this DLC now.

No matter what I've done, everywhere a single unit goes there is a lack of supply. So I'm just constantly suffering attrition everywhere. 6 10 width units in the far east with starting infa? Attrition. Basically, at the start of the game the soviets are suffering attrition everywhere and there is just generally no supply. It's rare to not see a unit attritioning when on a front line. God forbid you want to attack Finland.

Secondly, the Soviet focus tree is a mixed bag. It honestly seems like there is too much you need to be doing at the same time, but not enough time. You have a bunch of economy stuff to do before Germany attacks, but you also have diplomacy stuff to do so you can get your Molotov-Ribbentrop claims, while also managing the purge (which the whole "wait 175 days" is seriously annoying. ON TOP of military focuses, as well as navy/air/research.

Compared to pre-DLC, I could get the Soviets to around 400 factories by '41, now I can barely get 200.

So on top of the weaker economy, units seem to retreat from tiles that are successfully defending, meaning lines can easily be overran. So if you aren't micro'ing all parts of the front at every moment, you could easily Germans flooding through. The Spanish Civil War is also just.. horrible. Using troops that normally could single handedly solo the war, I can barely push anymore. Not to mention supply is absolutely abysmal, so even if I wanted to I couldn't.

Lastly, I really do not like how the purge mechanics work, I much preferred the more simple nature of pre-DLC. By the end, I lost every top general and field marshal, so that sucked.

Maybe I just need to watch some tutorials, idk. I will update this review as time goes on.

literally unplayable. Game stutters to all hell and back, even with the lowest graphical settings. And no, my computer is not a potato, the game is just ♥♥♥♥

The way this runs makes no sense. One game you could have near exactly the same scenario as a previous run, but have extremely different circumstances. Authority drops randomly, you could be doing seemingly everything right with minimal infection rate and deaths, all the authority things bought, but be bleeding -7 authority per day. It plays like a bad custom scenario game made by someone who doesn't know how to make a good custom scenario. It needs a lot more tuning and make it clearer as to why your authority will randomly start plummeting.
