Probably the most famous VR game and that’s no coincidence. Slashing bright glowing blocks at high speed while blasting some absolute banger music is just exhilarating to another level. Something the community has taken up to themselves to expand upon, the creations people have made over the years in the form of maps/music and light shows are truly on a whole other level. It’s insane what can be accomplished and some creators have spent whole years on creating a singular experience. For fundamentally being a hack and slash rhythm game it has truly expanded beyond scopes of what anyone could have imagined back in 2018.

Sadly this is the only form of major content we get nowadays. The community is basically all that’s keeping the game alive as even though the game is getting updates, there is nearly nothing new and old things promised are not out nearly 3 years later. Don’t get me wrong, the base game is quite good and can entertain you for quite a while but you ultimately get bored of it after a while as the maps that come with the base game are quite few. If you’re on a platform without mods I guess the DLC gives you lots more music and content to play but for the price demanded it’s just way too much.

There is a competitive scene with insanely skilled people that you can learn from by just watching tournaments but if you want to get to a higher level of play you will need lots of practice of both speed, stamina and tech maps. There are custom maps for players of all skill levels and from most music categories so if you mod the game you’ll have lots of content to go through. Combined with custom environments, sabres, blocks etc you can customise most things of your experience which is much more than the base game gives you.

That’s not to say the base game doesn’t provide, it was a while back but probably the biggest update we’ve gotten was the multiplayer update. Playing with your friends is of course always better though once again, quite limited in base game but mods like BeatTogether fixes most of those problems as that means you can play custom maps with your friends thanks to the community.

The only problem with mods is that the game usually breaks after a major update when modded and it takes a few days for everything to update and fully work again. This can usually be remedied by manually injecting the modloader after an update through your file manager of choice and then removing problematic mods until they’re updated. As the codebase for the game is 99% the same between updates most stuff should work just fine after manually injecting. I don’t know why but some people seem to think the devs intentionally break modding stuff each update when it’s just how modding works. There are very few games that mods just continue working without being updated unless they use an API like steam workshop. Just look at how minecraft modding works, every new update requires a new API that’s incompatible with older and newer versions, it’s nothing strange.

Overall a great VR experience that actually feels tailored for VR and with the help of mods make it one of the best VR experiences in terms of games. If you want to learn how to mod, just search up “Modassistant Beatsaber” and you should find the github repository. There you’ll find lots of great mods for everything. Below are a few recommendations.

Scoresaber & Beatleader for global leaderboards on maps and global ranking (also websites)
Beatsaver Downloader for downloading maps/songs in-game.
Saber Factory for custom sabres & effects
Noodle extensions & Mapping extensions for amazing light shows <video example by me>

Finally, to browse songs/maps I recommend using <Beatsaver>

And to browse & download stuff like sabers <Modelsaber>

Absolutely loved it! and for playing it through on launch day the bugs are minimal and you can easily tell that lots of time has been put into it, Took just over 5h to complete but I have the smoothest brain of all time so some of you can probably do it in 1h. The time portal was a great idea and really expands on how you can think with portals and adds more complexity. With it being a mod I'm quite impressed just like with Portal Stories Mel and great on the devs for making the mod free. It might not expand the portal universe that much but that's not the point of this adventure, it's to make you think differently and that was absolutely nailed.

Great game, the simple artstyle is easy on the eyes and leaves the need for a good graphics card. Though the game is heavily cpu bound with how the game loads objects and the physics of your raft leading to insane lag if you decide to massively expand your raft. Even after the release there are quite a few bugs most being related to sound or how your raft interact with objects in the world.

As for gameplay it's fairly balanced but I'd like to see a little more durability on tools as it becomes quite a big problem when playing multiplayer and have 5 people needing new tools every 10min. Keep in mind that this game is quite the grind in the start and generally quite repetitive with stuff you do and the same with enemies, they are simple, effective but after a while it just becomes annoying.

There is never nothing to do if you play the game right and lots of fun challenges in the form of achievements or just seeing how effective you can make your raft. I've seen this game from the first free to play demo to what it now is and I'd gotta say that the simple ocean survival game has evolved to a beautiful fully fletched story/survival game.

Overall good work from the devs that I do recommend that you play through, especially if you just want to sit down and do something with your mates.

Fun and scary for the first couple hours, when you realize how everything works it gets a lot less scary but its still fun especially with a full team of 4, it is also VR compatible which is nice even tho the VR controls and the graphics in VR is pretty bad, anyway 9/10 for a game released in 2020 and being in the horror category.
It is diffrent from many other and have done horror pretty well.

REVIEW UPDATE:
Old review still stands but game has been massively updated in graphics both standard and VR. The game runs extremely smooth and the newest update brought some really nice sounds effects and gameplay changes to make the game more exciting and can once again spook you.
Difficulty has also gone up a bit but it's fairly easy to get the hang of everything & definitely a good time with friends.

Great software for everything VR and a solid platform for community stuff. But, and this is a huge but, there is a bug that causes time to add per application active in SteamVR, this means that all my friends think I've become so addicted to virtual reality that I spend 16h a day in it. Considering the current pandemic, it’s not that unreasonable ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

10/10 an excellent experience

Edit 1 (Written at 2600h):
A couple months later and this number has skyrocketed. I mean VR is good, but c'mon

Edit 2 (Written at 3200h):
Is this bug gonna get patched or what, last edit was less than a month ago. I get that I'm playing lots of VR and am probably addicted but seriously.

Edit 3 (Written at 4900h):
So we are back with even more hours, good news however! The bug is gone. So how's your day going, random person scrolling through? If these stats were correct I'd apparently be playing VR at least 8h a day at this point. huh, must be in my sleep.

An awesome little adventure, seriously it's really good and references tons of games, series and movies in many fun ways. Well written story as well with characters that feel like they have personality. It might not be a full blown 3d game but a fun story/point & click adventure with many jokes and endings. It's also a fun scavenge hunt for achievements and all the characters having unique info cards etc really builds to the world. Overall a strong recommendation

Have friends, friends good, betray friend, now sad, kill even more friend, regret, win game...

It was fun while it lasted and it definitely sparked more developers to start making social deception games which I appreciate. And at the point of *this review update the game seems basically finished, with support for more players and new ways to play with new roles etc. The game still has its charm when playing with friends but random lobbies are overrun by people who should be banned for the things they type and quite often some form of cheating though it's less prevalent today compared to yesteryear.

Unfortunately for the devs, I will blame them for the rest of my life for seeing amongii everywhere. Though I guess that's a sign that the game truly has cemented itself inside this smooth brain and probably the internet for decades to come. The game feels quiet arcadey compared to when it launched and while I'm not a big fan of it I'm sure helps with player retention and an easy to learn system for the cosmetics, so who can blame em.

Fun to play with friends as long as they don't take it too seriously since you'll be lying to their faces quite often, but would personally stay out of public lobbies unless it's hide n seek.

A great release from Landfall with incredibly fun and interesting gameplay and physics based arenas. The game allows for high customization choices for how you play down to specific weapon toggles etc. Though with support for creating your own maps and playing others there is lots of fun to have even after you feel done with the base game. Simply a great party game to play with a few mates.

The overall game is cartoony which works very well with the weapons and arenas. It feels like one of those stick fight videos and fights leading to highly entertaining moments in the very chaotic gameplay.

For those without friends, public lobbies exist even if they aren’t that good. So I’d only really recommend getting this game with a few buddies to have a party game night or similar. The game is using steam servers so don’t forget the maintenance break every tuesday night (big mistake).

Overall a great party game for a few hours of entertainment.

Bloons for me have always been a fun way to relax, in the sense it's something I can play inactively while watching some series or whatever. The game has gone full 3D which I didn't like at the start but after 5 years I could never go back. Stuff like heroes has also massively expanded the playstyle and skill ceiling if used correctly especially with all the map varieties it could be the deciding factor between a loss and a victory. Maps are massively interactable and are being added regularly (atleast they have been the last couple years).

The game is still in active development and tweaks happen quite often to balance things out during updates, it's a completely different experience from 2 or 4 years ago. While the game is quite fun for a few dozen hours it falls pretty flat after a while, it's still a solid recommend if you like TD games that don't require lots of your attention but it certainly becomes a grindfest after a while. The amount of game modes that doesn't really make sense difficulty wise but is still needed to 100% a map just eats lots of your time. That combined with some of the most time consuming achievements ever just makes me not even want to open the game for the most part, like who in their right mind is going to finish 100 odesseys that take between 25m - 1.5h each just for an achievement (yeah that's me). But if we ignore all that then the game has a really good learning curve which combined with the skill tree makes you fairly organically get better at the game even if the skilltree also is a grindfest after a certain point.

The game has a very distinct style and you can tell the development and design teams work together on designs to make it come together in a really unique way. This can be seen in all new stuff they've added since launch, whether it be maps, heroes, towers or other features, it all serves a purpose. Even if that purpose usually is to make people want to play the game more and test new stuff, something which is reasonable since it truly is a sandbox TD game at it's core with the thousands of things there is to know about how to play.

And after you're bored with the "normal" gamemodes there is so much that they've added, like co-op which actually isn't broken anymore and makes it more interesting to play and have fun with a couple of mates, competitive races, bosses, clans with territorial gamemodes, aforementioned odesseys which can suck my ♥♥♥♥ and finally a challenge editor and community hub to share them. This too becomes stale after a while but if you're competitive it'll keep you distracted for a while and there is usually lots of challanges for people who really want to think.

Overall good game, just on the grindy side if you want to "complete" it.

Old and certainly gold but what an amazing sequel it is. Even being this old I can hands down say it's one of the best games out there. The storytelling, concept, voice acting and just general feel is spectacular and really well put together. I know there is a trope that says that Valve™ can't make a third game which is a fun joke considering what they've put out throughout the years. But if it were one game I wish had a third part, it is definitely portal.

Hey, I know puzzle games are not for everyone but this is no ordinary puzzle game and it really makes you think about the world differently compared to many games. The portal bundle comes once or twice a year which is both games for less than 2€ and I can fully say that's worth it, I even feel like full price is worth it which is why I bought it without the sale.

I don't really know what I can add to this as the game is simply a masterpiece, and with the co-op chambers you can have fun and solve stuff together and really just have a blast jumping through wormholes. Easily 10/10 score for this one.
