Getting Over It has to be one of the most polarizing games I have played. I finished reaching the top of the mountain at around 10.5 hours of playtime. It was hard, it was frustrating, at some points it did make me cry out of pure challenge and suffering. It made me feel a variety of emotions when I had to climb back up again and again.

Despite the beginning sounding like a negative review, I can't bring myself to truly despise this game. Within each fall I learned something new. A new trick, route, or change in play style that encouraged me to try again. Although it did have its moments were I got increasingly frustrated and quit the game for months on end. At least until one of my friends whose climbed the top over 180 times encouraged me to play again, albeit not the way I was expecting. When I finally reached the top, and saw those credits roll, after hours of trial and error, and falling back numerous times, I just let it all out and just cried and laughed for a bit. Releasing all those pent up feelings of stress and uncertainty. To quote Frank Reynolds from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia "Oh my god, I get it."

I'd argue that the main appeal of this game is not just climbing the mountain, but mastering it. All of those times you fall down or make a mistake, it opens another opportunity to try again. I imagine this type of play style isn't for everyone, it may ask for too much and giving back too little. Many people will dislike this game, and many people will quit before they reach the top. By the time I made it, only me and 8.7% of players reached the top for the first time. It's easy to get frustrated and quit, but the game is really about that perseverance and willpower to keep going. By the time I made it to the end and saw those credits roll, I finally managed to understand it, maybe not completely, but more so than I did before.

Like I said before, this game is very polarizing to me. I felt accomplished when I finally made it to the end, but it was at the cost of a lot of sweat and tears being shed. It's brutal, it let's you know that from the opening narration. However, if one takes the time to persevere and push through, learning from mistakes, you just might make it. While I imagine this game won't be for everyone, when you do finally make it to the top, this is one of the games that sticks with you for better or worse. Like the mountain, it's daunting and may not make sense, but you do get that sense of pride and accomplishment when you reach the credits and tell yourself "I did it."

This might be the most kindhearted individual I've ever met.
