Some steps back, but a lot more steps forward, Rise of the Golden Idol is a phenomenal sequel overall:

The intriguing narrative will have you figure stuff out up all the way until the final panel. I cannot overstate how much of a leap the team made with this game plot-wise.

The music I could not get into much, and the UI felt a bit finicky compared to Case of the Golden Idol. Constantly re-arranging overlapping windows felt a bit tedious at the beginning until I figured out how to effectively navigate it.

These two points should in no way deter you from buying this game. A big recommendation!

I admit I have a weakness for "witness the story and downfall of a dynasty over the span of a long time"-stories, but the premise aside, The Case of the Golden Idol manages to be a phenomenal detective game that oozes charm, atmosphere, originality, and wraps its satisfying overarching plot (aside from some of the plot points in the DLCs) in a neat game that very quickly has you longing for more. I personally can't wait for Rise of the Golden Idol to come out,

Infinitely quotable, infinitely replayable (both the game and its excellent soundtrack), it's one of the finest works of Platinum, as well as one of the finest (non-canon) Metal Gear entries.

No knowledge of the series is needed to plunge in, there's no excuse not to give it a try.

Developed for an audience of roughly 9 people, I seriously can't believe this game exists.

Between the crisp animations, great setpieces and the expected unforgiving difficulty typical for cinematic platformer, I sure am glad this game exists though.

In a genre that's oversaturated with callbacks and imitations to its classics, FAITH manages to be a refreshingly unique game with its ancient (but highly stylistic) presentation and charming rotoscopic cutscenes.

Also, it's creepy as MORTIS.

It's very hard to give this game a simple Thumbs up/down rating, because Yakuza 8/Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is a very different game depending on who you ask.

It can be the first, second or maybe 10th Yakuza/RGG game the person you ask has played, and everyone will get something different out of the game.

I fall into the final of the groups mentioned above. The game is VERY good, but with a few caveats that I wish to highlight. At the point of this review, I finished the story and dipped my toe into all the side activities, but still have to complete them (minus the Bucket List, which I finished and enjoyed).

- The story has a good setup and execution, but depending on whether you played Like a Dragon Gaiden or not, it can leave you disappointed in a few regards. If you've played Gaiden, you likely already know what underused group I'm talking about.
And even without the Gaiden knowledge, the ending might come off as very rushed and underwhelming, as it either leaves some plot points dangling in the air or disintegrates them by never mentioning problem X or conflict Y again.

- The new city and side activites. one of the core foundations of every RGG game, are phenomenal. Discovering Hawaii bit by bit the same way we discovered Yokohama in 7 is still very engaging and fun and is perfectly tied to JRPG level progression.

- The improvements made to the new combat system are phenomenal, period. Even simple street fights have depth and strategy to them that engages the player. And if it doesn't, weak fights can now be skipped/instantly won, saving quite a bit of time if you simply wish to traverse the city.

- The side content is MASSIVE and honestly absurd for a game that's 70 bucks. Shady DLC practices that deserve to be called out thoroughly aside, you get a ton of diverse content that will tickle anyone's fancy.

To summarize:
- Great final city
- Great combat improvements
- Great and neverending amount of side content
- Good story, with a bit of missed potential regarding the ending

Personally, I hope that Yakuza 9 will be a bit smaller again. The dual protagonists bloated the game quite a bit, and some of the recurring party members were not really neccessary if you ask me. I hope for a more refined, but also more compact experience, The way Yakuza 0 still provided tons of content, but streamlined everything compared to 5.

Nevertheless, this is still a GOTY contender. RGG fans are eating good atm.

Imagine a thumb pointing up at a 45 degree angle.

A competent entry in the Yakuza/LaD/RGG franchise, which unfortunately doesn't quite reach the heights of Yakuza 0, 7 or Lost Judgment. Somewhat lacking in a few aspects, it nevertheless still delivers when it comes to the core formula.

Not really an essential entry (unlike the previoulsy mentioned entries), but both a nice entry for fans of the franchise, as well as a nice appetizer for the upcoming Yakuza 8.

It's hard to label MHRD as a game, it's closer to an interactive, minimally gamified university assignment.

MHRD will teach you how hardware circuits work, and how all of them can be traced back to boolean logic (aka the famous 0s and 1s). If you have a fundamental interest in electrical/computer engineering and don't mind the very basic presentation of it (the screenshots are basically all you'll see), then I can recommend it. If you look for something closer to the Zachtronics-style of puzzle games, then the lack of music, the UX, and its rather brief length might leave you longing for something more.
