A fun game for chilling and exploring. I really wish it had VR so I could drive around the wonderful city and take in the atmosphere properly. Still great though. I'm looking forward to Nirvalis, whenever that gets released.

I played this straight after finishing Florence, I'd say that it's definitely more of a visual novel by comparison and there are basically no game-play elements. I did enjoy the narrative, but it wasn't what I was expecting overall.

I played on the Steam Deck at first so that I could use my finger to erase the screen, but it got old pretty quick and I switched over to my PC so I could use the F hotkey to "erase all".

I would recommend it, but be very aware this isn't a game, more of an interactive visual novel.

You're going to feel feels, whether you wanted to feel or not.

Lovely little game, it is very short: 30-60mins. Still an excellent little narrative that makes you feels them feels. Some negative reviews about the length, but realistically it costs less than a cup of coffee when it's on sale and lasts longer too.

I've had a fun time playing through the game, highly recommend it, best enjoyed in co-op.

Just annoyed that some of the achievements aren't very thoughtful, kill 50 of each animal, but some of these animals only spawn one per island, and not every island. There are ways around it, like saving before killing the creature then re-loading and repeating.

I've got a few hours and finished the story.

I think the recommended difficulty might be a bit much if people are expecting a chill truck game.

I enjoyed the story for the most part, I didn't like that these narrative characters are basically non-existent in the world. They ask you to meet them somewhere and then the voice clip plays, but it would be much better if they existed in the world and if you would see them driving around occasionally.

Graphics and sound are great. The music is very fitting and I enjoyed it, never got bored of it, even after 50hrs.

There were a few bugs, some nearly caused me to gameover but I managed to get past them. Mission rewards seem bugged or they just don't pay very well.

I'd definitely like to see the option to adjust difficulty mid-game, I hope that can come in a future patch. Although I'd also like to see truck upgrades that reduce the power/fuse drain.

I would recommend the game, but on a lower difficulty or custom difficulty.

The ending was just "ok", I was hoping the last system to unlock might contain something cool, but there's nothing really there except cool scenery and skybox, there isn't any purpose to go there except salvaging.

A good game with a fantastic soundtrack. It had a bumpy start, I had a game-breaking bug at launch so I put it down and came back to it now. I've finished the game with gotten all but 2 achievements but I think I'll leave it there. That's enough for me.

Well worth playing, there will be lots of restarting as you get into the game and realise something you did in chapter X is handicapping you. Enjoy the learning experience and/or prep by watching some YouTube videos.

The story was interesting and the ending(s) slightly confusing but I enjoyed it all the same.

I think this is easily the worst game I've ever played. Just constant game-breaking glitches meaning you have to keep restarting from checkpoints.

Literally mission critical NPC's who open the doors for you might die, it doesn't game over, you just stand at the door and nothing happens.

I remember starting this game in March 2020, then the world got flip turned upside down. Anyway at the time in 2020 I couldn't find the 2nd objective in the campaign which was to find Shangri la, anyway, I am happy to report that it is 2024 and I've found it!

tldr: It's alright, very impressive for what appears to be a single dev/small team. I would describe this as an X4-lite. Start with nothing and work your way up. The story didn't really hook me, I had fun building my little fleet and doing missions. Got my moneys worth but if you seek a deeper game then look into X4

Graphics
The game definitely has its own style, going for that cell shaded look.

Music
Kinda repetitive to be honest. It did the job but after all these hours I turned the music down a little.

Sound Effects
Perfectly serviceable, they won't be winning any awards.

Story
Didn't hook me, does the job.

What I liked
  • Dev is very active on Steam discussions, they appear receptive to feedback.
  • Easy to pick-up and play

What I didn't like
  • Game crashed a few times when transitioning from the Overworld.
  • The music.

Worth a buy?
On sale, sure.

I've been playing Homeworld since 1999, Picked up each game at launch and I got a tonne of hours in all of them.

tldr: It's a perfectly fine addition to the franchise, the game definitely needed that polish so I'm glad they delayed the launch and it still needs some more to be perfect. Graphics=Great, Sound=Great, Music=Paul Ruskay, Campaign Story = a bit poo tbh

Graphics
I think the graphics and effects are fantastic, I only ever noticed one issue with textures where the damaged hull texture was tiled and it looked a bit crap, but I stopped noticing it after a while.

Music
It's Paul Ruskay, what can you say. Perfectly suited to the franchise and it would have been missed if they had gone with another composer.

Sound Effects
Great, I don't think I noticed any issues with glitched audio. Weapons sound fantastic. Nothing to fault here.

Story
It didn't feel Homeworld, I kinda felt like you're dropped into this war with the protagonist and they feel so shallow and underdeveloped. They could have gone so many ways with the plot
  • Return of the Beast
  • Super gate that links to another galaxy, new aliens/factions
  • Some more Progenitor shenanigans
  • Maybe some of the Kadesh survived in the garden and are coming for revenge
In the other games there are a variety of mission types, they're not all just pure combat, there are escort, resource, sneaky stealth missions. There was some sort of feeling of discovery and exploration about it.

Instead we get angry petulant child that has shallow motives and just combat, there's the one stealth mission but even that has a timer. I feel like you're rushed through and the pacing is awful. Give me some down-time missions, or down-time at the end of each mission to get my fleet in order and resource.

What I liked
  • The slow-mo mode, it made it easily possible to figure out what was going on during hectic battles.
  • The unit design is great, they all mostly feel unique. There's a real combined-arms feeling where frigates/capital ships can be overwhelmed without fighter cover and similarly strikecraft can get overwhelmed quickly without support from bigger ships.
  • The CWIS/PDC style of certain weapons, brrrrt.
  • The addition of the custom difficulty options.
  • Playing the game with UEVR, actually playable, if a little janky.
  • The way you're able to use terrain for cover, it also just makes the map more interesting.

What I didn't like
  • The game had a wobbly on day 1 where, following the first mission, I was stuck on a black loading screen for 10-15mins whilst my GPU was stuck near max load.
  • Tutorial doesn't cover retire or scuttle.
  • Story/protagonist is a bit meh.
  • At longer ranges weapon effects just cutout/disappear, ships appear to take damage from nothing.
  • Skirmish maps are way too small.
  • The way your units got path find when trying to navigate the terrain, sure is frustrating sometimes.
  • Ships feel very squishy.

Worth a buy?
In my opinion, I'm glad I was able to experience this game and it was worth a buy. It does feel overpriced for what we got though, this is more of a £30-40 game, not a £50+ game.

Great game, it can be good fun and it's very creative. My only real criticism is that all ships feel the same. There are no traditional ship classes, half the time the larger ships are just smaller ships, scaled up. They mostly all handle the same.

In most games, you deploy a capital ship with escorts/fighters etc. Not in Avorion, you don't have to, because fighters and smaller vessels, even when swarming can't really tackle a larger ship. Manoeuvrability doesn't seem to count for crap because most of the weapons are hit-scan, or you need to be going so fast to avoid incoming fire that it's not really practical.

As you get closer to the core, you're forced to just make all ships really big, because you need the extra slots for extra turret modules so that you can compete.

Fun game though, recommend everyone try it for a couple of hours like I have.
