Early Access Review
The developers do not know what they are doing and are flailing while trying to restore a completely collapsed player base.

If you are not experiencing technical issues, the most recent update makes fights feel much more varied and matches much smoother and faster overall. The new map is excellent and the projectile drop ranges are long enough that they do not change most fights unless you frequently snipe. The UI update is not overall negative, there are certain aspects of the new UI that are better and several that are worse, but I think people need to be realistic about the old one being just as garbage as the new one, and the proposed updates look good. I know some players are experiencing crashes and other graphical problems and those suck, and I think are legitimate reasons to be upset about the update.

It's AC after 10 years. I think a lot of people wanted it to be something different, and I agree somewhat with the complaints about the stagger system. Balance is certainly all over the place too. I also still can't play online due to the black screen crash and subsequent bypassing of EAC. I hope they get that figured out soon. UPDATE: This was an issue caused by Process Lasso and EAC, so if you're running into this problem you will need to turn off the governor, or if you use a similar program you're probably going to need to disable it.

Regardless, I've had a great time. I'm also very happy to see such a huge response from players for this series since I can pretty safely assume that AC is back and we will be seeing more of them in the coming years. This is a game that I think will only be loved by a very specific sort of person, and since it's the only one available on PC it's hard to gauge whether or not you will like it. I suppose people who enjoyed Daemon X Machina will understand the fundamentals of this style of game, but AC6 is a departure in that it borrows some of the mechanical systems from FROM's other IPs. I still think the vast majority of previous AC players will enjoy this game anyway, and I'm looking forward to a more multiplayer-focused entry in the future, like Verdict Day.

So, FROM, when are we getting the sequel to Chromehounds?

It's an extremely simple, goofy, fun, and inexpensive game. What more do you really want?

The playerbase is tiny and the monetization is extremely aggressive. Regardless of how fun the game can be, these things are too severe to recommend.

I have extracted fun from this game, but I would not recommend nor would I wish this experience upon others. It's just not a finished game, it's somewhere between a technical alpha and a beta at the moment. The bones of a game are mostly in place, but a huge amount of the content feels rushed, particularly in the cases of weapons, gadgets, and attachments. There are also a large number of baseline game mechanics missing or greatly simplified from older games, resulting in what feels like a substantial step backwards rather than forwards.

You can have a good time if you like playing with a friend or two and you're willing to stick it out in vehicles only, as most of the ground vehicles are a lot of fun to use - but are brutally overpowered. The infantry combat is terrible, flying is very hit or miss, and balance is a total joke. Specialists and the lack of classes were a mistake, identifying enemies vs. teammates is not extremely clear, and the lack of classes means that weapons are no longer balanced around the kits that have access to them. You also can't build the classes from previous games, since one gadget slot is always taken up by the specialist gadget. Guns are very samey and are clearly not in a finalized state compared to each other - nothing really has any identity which has resulted in the PP-29 being the catch-all for any range inside of sniping. The weapon attachment system has very little depth, and most attachments are reskins of each other or are unclear in their description (some are also confirmed to be bugged). The performance is highly variable - I'm getting similar framerates to friends that are on considerably stronger computers, even occasionally beating them. There is also a serious hit registration issue that makes the infantry combat even more frustrating.

I frankly can't understand why DICE made the decisions that they did. Absolutely nobody wanted the series taken in this direction. I don't know how they're going to change this over the course of it's lifetime, but the changes will need to be very substantial for this to have even a lukewarm reception from people who were excited for a "return to form" for battlefield. I'll probably keep playing it on and off with a group, and sticking to vehicle combat only until we get some substantial patches.

I have constant crashes and soft locks. I've tried running it borderless to prevent the game losing focus during inviting other players, because normally it kicks you back to desktop to do something as simple as opening the steam overlay. Either way, I've had the game totally lock up while focused (and alt-tabbing out and in does nothing). I've also had crashes during gameplay several times, which makes completing contracts difficult to say the least. After waiting quite a while and coming back, the game is even less stable. I can't recommend it on those grounds. Honestly disappointed, because I really like the core gameplay.

This is the next evolution of EYE, though without the mind-bending 32 player co-op. Streum delivers on atmosphere and this entire game looks ripped out of 40k artbooks, unlike nearly every other licensed product. It's rough, it's buggy, it has frustrating one-shots and you will often be confused why certain officers are able to blow your head off before you can react (which is also something I distinctly remember from EYE), but I can forgive pretty much all of it. This game plays like DOOM and maybe a bit of the Deus-Ex reboots, with a wonky ARPG style loot system (and no ability to view your inventory outside of mission start). This game is carried by its charm and frantic ability-mashing twitch-aim combat.

After beating it on the hardest difficulty, I can tell you the best way to enjoy this is to stop worrying about min-maxing and focus on trying to simply murder as many things as possible in the shortest amount of time. Don't engage tactically, engage in a hilarious way. Teleport to and explode people, mash the execution button, and drop all accuracy on at least one of your weapons and dump as much as you can into DPS. I see a lot of reviews complain about health-sink enemies, and I can only really think of a single boss fight where that applies (the mech enemies have a short invulnerability window which may be causing this complaint). You can mulch almost anything within a few hits, and you can get abilities like auto aim and slowing time to make up for otherwise difficult fights. You also have to detach from being frustrated about cheap deaths, there is a purchasable revive item for this very reason (which you should buy at mission start every single time).

Let go. Release yourself from your cycles of guilt. You are not your mentor's murderer, and your legs are in fact OK.

If you like mech games like me and you're on PC, this is definitely one to grab. It's as close to Armored Core as we're going to get for a while. People that used to play EXTEEL will also recognize the gameplay, though Mechwarrior players will probably have an issue with the speed. It's not gritty, it's not realistic, it's like UFOs fighting each other with lasers and swords.

The story is unintelligible. Get ready for a lot of THE WILL OF THE DOMINATOR.

This is like a sip of Armored Core. It's a lot more simplistic, and on PC, the lack of turn speed has both positive and negative effects (It doesn't feel clunky, but it also means that it isn't a limiting factor of design). There are a LOT of useless parts, and I feel that the weapon selection is a lot more limited than it looks on the surface. I still really love it, and it's the closest we are going to get, but I SINCERELY HOPE that the developers make another attempt at this style with the build complexity cranked up. I also wouldn't mind something PC-focused that takes advantage of the potential for a much more detailed looking game, as the Switch graphics get old pretty quickly (especially when you play the same online missions dozens of times in a row).
