EDIT: Since this review was made, they have both added the ability to choose which critter to play as, and they have added controller support, therefore solving 2 of my biggest gripes with the game. It doesn't ultimately affect my recommendation, but now I can recommend this port a lot more confidently. Tho it remains ultimately a mobile game first.

Serviceable port of a wonderful game. Not as good as the port of Wingspan.

I won't spent time talking about Everdell as a game, it's a great city/engine building game, and the physical version is a luxurious box full of metal, wood and cardboard (unfortunately I've only gotten to try my club's copy, since the complete collection hasn't shipped yet).

For this reason I've been looking forwards to this digital edition for months! Unfortunately it looks as, like with other Direwolf productions, the PC port was an afterthought.

The conversion itself is great, and if you wanted to buy the game to play sitting down on your desk using the mouse as a replacement for a touch screen, you'll have a decent enough time. it has all the content of the base game, including the original single player mode, and it adds AI to play a single player version of the full game, some challenges, online multiplayer and (god bless them) local multiplayer! Something that I appreciate in any game that adds it, especially digital board games, since it means we can play a real match against friends without bringing the heavy box with us.

Unfortunately the PC port won't make this the most pleasant experience, just like all of Direwolf previous ports, it's lacking any sort of controller support, which in the case of Root and Everdell, 2 games with Switch versions, is particularly confusing.

Now even if you wanted to use Steam's built-in controller configuration system to make your own controller support, the game won't help you at all with this, as the game offers no keyboard shortcuts to speak of, something that I'm sure will be annoying both to couch players like me, and desk players, who'd probably like to be able to use their keyboard to speed the experience along, the keyboard support has been reduced even from the previous port by Direwolf, Root, as there you could at least use the arrows to move the camera around, or the numbers to select certain minor actions, that is all gone, in Everdell you can only zoom in and out using the up and down arrows, there are no shortcuts to select cards despite the hand being limited to 8 cards at a time, no double click to play cards, no shortcuts to switch between players, or between the board and the tree, no shortcuts at all to speak of (that I've been able to find anyways).

This is probably my biggest gripe with the PC port specifically, as I feel these quality of life features are importante to make the experience be as pleasant as possible, and while very few board games seem to get ported to PC with this quality, I do wish it became more common.

Other than that, I find the board to look a little tiny, and lowering the resolution doesn't increase the size, again, seeing as I prefer to play from the couch, I find that it's really hard to get a good look at even your own board at a glance, and you need to zoom in on them to know exactly what they are.

Another complain I have which will probably not affect much people, is that performance has gotten slightly worse since Root, they've dropped all support for DirectX10, which means my old laptop, the main computer I use for everyday work on my desk can no longer boot into a match, I suppose it's fair enough, but it seems a little unnecessary for a mostly 2D mobile port.

And finally, a small but STRANGE omission, you can't select which animal to play as!
You see, in the physical version you get to choose a species to play as at the beginning of the game, to represent yourself, they only brought 4 of them to the digital version (mouse, squirrel, hedgehog and turtle), which fair enough, the maximum number of players is 4, and the selection is nice, but for some reason the species are either tied to the number of players you are, or randomly assigned? I haven't figured out which one yet, but either way, it's pretty damn strange you don't get to pick who to play as!

Anyways, that's all I have to say about this port, my review of the Android version will probably be way kinder, I'll still recommend it because it's still a good digital conversion, but a bad PC port, if I could give a more nuanced score I'd give it 6/10 or something along those lines.

Now, if you want a good PC port of a game that's (mechanically) very similar to this one, that's great to play on the couch with friends, I'd recommend monster couch's port of Wingspan right here on Steam! Which has to be hands down the BEST PC conversion of a board game I've played yet.

I played this game 5 times in a row because of a bug.

I think I hate it.

Reminds me of an Arcade or retro game in many ways.

>Do well
>can't stop playing
>lose
>get frustrated
>rage quit
>boot it back up 50 seconds later because it loads basically instantly.

Everyone everywhere says this and it's sequel have aged like fruit left in the sun. I played it for the first time in 2010, waaay past it's prime, with a sodding keyboard, on a ♥♥♥♥♥ laptop...And I loved it.

Literally playing with a Dinput joystick with no analog sticks right now and boy does it still feel good, sort of, kind of, I would definitely prefer to have an analog stick right about now. Anyway the Steam port is kind of trashy compared to pretty much all the other versions but the core experience it's still hella enjoyable. Completely laughtable cutscenes and all.

Ghost Recons Online was one of the best multiplayer games I've played in my life, some time later it was turned into a P2W cashgrab, and after people got tired of that ♥♥♥♥, Ubisoft decided to just kill it.

I really hope someone hacks a way to play the game after it gets killed. Community servers for this game would of been fantastic, maybe not had have it been F2P. Hell, maybe the multiplayer in Ghost Recon Future Soldier is as good as this used to be?

Regardless, now that the game is just FREE, even if for just about a month or two, it's probably worth getting back to it, even if just to get a few last matches before it just dies entirely.

Altough the basic gameplay can be quite a lot of fun, it quickly wears out, it lacks variety, there are basically no pickups during the races, you can either pick up more cash or boost, and that's about it, it would be cool if there was more variety to the kind of things you can find during the races.

But even not having them, I could justify myself keeping it if the online multiplayer was alive, or even better, if it featured some kind of local splitscreen or whatever multiplayer mode, but it doesn't, so, basically it's a very barebones package, which is a shame, because I love the handling and I think it's a pretty comfy looking game, but alas, I can't justify myself paying 1.24$ for it.

Edit: a newer and better version of this game is abviable for free on Android, if you really like the aesthethics and the handling, better off playing that one.
