Great game that captures the spirit of escape rooms. Each room takes about 10-15 minutes, and never gets too complicated nor too easy.

Not optimised! The newest cpu and gpu have a framerate of around 5 fps when turning the camera. Even had a computer crash. Garbage.

Intense first person horror game where you have to avoid the alien at all times!

I've let a friend play this while I watched, due to a handicap.

Keeping true to the first movie
This game is not a shooter. You can't fight the alien which is hunting you. Of course the space station has convenient air ducts in the ceiling for the alien to move around.

We played on nightmare, the biggest issue is that you don't have a map, so you have to figure it out by yourself. And you barely find any supplies. We did the dlc on novice just to dash them. I couldn't notice big changes in the aliens behaviour, although the alien sometimes let's you go.

The alien's movement consists of random patterns, you can never predict where it will go. So you are forced to take chances; and fail, because there are some bottlenecks where it's sheer luck.

The DLCs are very short, and only two contain a mini story related to the movie.

Only worthwhile if you like the setting, otherwise too generic a game.

This is a first impression review.

Recently I bought a Humble Bundle and decided to play one randomly, well sort of, the name sounded intriguing. The game plays on hexshaped tiles which create the board. Your character moves turnbased on said board. The amount of 'energy', your resource to move and play cards, cost is dependant on the sort of terrain. When playing a movement card instead of clicking the board directly, the cost is maximum 1. This is mostly used during combat.

The combat cards are generic. Although I have seen very little, so far I haven't seen anything refreshing.

Why didn't it grab me? The boardstyle is too generic. It's low resolution, and if you move the board while holding the mouse button, the cursor doesn't stay in the same position on the board. Not a big deal, but I find it annoying. When you finish one map and move towards the next, your deck resets. This shows me that there isn't a lot of balancing done, and the fun is to keep building. And ultimately I'm not really into ancient Japan. There are many great deckbuilders that I wonder why this one over another? The only reason I can think of is the Japanese setting, all other parts are subpar.

Okay train management puzzler, but the timed nature kills it for me.

In RAILGRADE you construct rails, stations, trains and buildings in order to move resources for product creation, and said products for shipping (sale). There is quite some freedom with raising tracks into the air, so you can bridge other tracks.

I doubted whether to do or don't recommend this game. I like almost everything, except for the fact that the game is timed, plus the level structure. Every level you have to start from scratch, and there is no commitment to your creation. I rather keep building and optimising. But this is a minor point, the timed thing kills it for me. I play these kind of games to chill out and enjoy what's happening on the screen. But if you don't mind that, this is a solid game.

Okay scenario, but throws off the balance of other scenarios, and doesn't offer a new environment which creates the experience.

Robots and guardians is about progressing the android Hope from zero upto ten intelligence. Intelligence equals sentience, as she becomes more sentient the more human demands she'll get. An interesting progress!

The new researchable robots are also interesting, but it completely throws off the balance of old scenarios. It's best to research those as soon as possible in order to automate things like scavenging and farming, freeing lots of time for actual development.

While the combat is interesting, I prefer more a challenge versus the environment. This isn't really present at the moment, unless the survivors run naked through the snow.

I did a run one year ago, and in January I started a lone survivor run. And now I did a very casual run with the robots. After 475 hours I'm just done with the game. What would be interesting for future scenarios would be a new environment, and a critical look at the technologies available.

My review of Stranded: Alien Dawn

Big surprise in 2024, a very simple supermarket simulator. Order, supply, and hire staff, to chill out!

Medial tasks can be very relaxing. That is this game. There is no secret behind it, yet it's a pretty big hit. It fills a weird demand for a chill experience.

The game is updated regularly, since it has smashed the developer's expectations. But it's still early access, so for a fuller experience I recommend to wait a bit, because at this moment the game is lacking past the beginning. You have to manually stock your supply room, and this task gets rather ridiculous when sales flourish.

Huge turnbased 4x game. Unique, worthwhile, but very early access currently.

Early Access
The game is in patch 0.31, so I reckon there is still a lot planned. I haven't dived into the roadmap or anything like that, so the review is solely covering my playthrough, which will differ greatly from those who played differently. In the first chapter of the review I will lay down the factions, and my choice in these. If you are interested in playing a different faction from mine, I highly encourage you to read a review of someone who played that style.
I try to keep the review free of story spoilers.

What would you do if aliens crashed on earth?
No communication, just boom, suddenly they are here in hiding. A very interesting situation that every sci-fi fan has hypothesised about. So when this game starts this way, we the players are immediately on familiar ground. The world is ready to be persuaded by the different beliefs about the aliens:

- The Resistance: Protect humanity by resisting the alien invasion.
- Humanity First: Eradicate the aliens and everyone who supports them.
- The initiative: Exploit the alien arrival to gain power.
- The Servants: Support the aliens by any means necessary. (an easier playthrough)
- The Protectorate: Protect humanity by appeasing the aliens.
- The Academy: Convince the aliens that we are equals. (difficult)
- Project Exodus: Escape the aliens by sending humans to other stars.

These texts come directly from the new game menu. Quite a choice eh? Now I like to look for extremes, like evil, because games nowadays cater better for those. In the past I preferred 'normal' first, and then evil maybe. Most of the times there never was a second run. So when the game warned that it will take 100+ hours, it was decided that I would play as The Servants on veteran difficulty, trying to offset the easy. This comes with a huge caveat: the game currently only offers a tutorial for The Resistance. In my opinion this is a mistake, because the game is too complex without having some guidance. Luckily I have a friend playing simultaneously with more experience, but he also admitted that he had to read a lot on forums. I think they should have locked the factions that aren't ready yet, because I had that feeling. More on that later.

Three types of games in one
Terra Invicta has three types of games that emerge from another, but once rolling are separate from each other. You start the game blank, ready to win population for your cause. The difficulty is related to its economy, so huge powers like China and the USA start next to impossible to persuade. Countries consist of up to six control points that supply resources for factions, and one executive control for things like war declaration.
This part of the game is a bit like the political and geographical side of games like XCOM 2 or Civilisation.

The second part is colonising space. Setting up mining colonies and boosting research. It's very important to be in front of this race versus your opponents. There is a clever system of five mineable resources for building components in space. Each resource contributes, the more diverse the shorter the construction period. For instance if you want to launch something to Mars, you need 360 days, plus a lot of 'boost' (rocket power). If you have space resources, you need a lot less boost and time. The resources don't need transportation. If you mine something on Mercury, you can use it right away on a shipyard on Mars.

The third component is space combat, I think. I can't tell anything about it, it wasn't part of my game.

Technology tree
There is a lot of research, but bluntly said, it's a mess. You unlock new researches pretty fast to do next, resulting in a list where you can't find head nor tail. That's right, a list, not a tree. You can sort it by type, but even then it's garbled. It's so bad, I never noticed key researches like satellite core upgrades, or shipyards. I'm sure this system is a placeholder, but it's quite awful at the moment. It could also use queuing of techs.

User experience
The UI is pretty decent, but the relay of information could be a lot better. For instance there are pop-ups for just about everything. Movements of armies, new researchable techs, counsellor actions... Everything could be condensed in a small message window, just like many survival citybuilders. By not pausing and asking for confirmation on just about everything you can cut down the time required for a playthrough drastically. There are many times you just want to skip time.

In the game you control counsellors, they are basically your tools to conquer the world. They have an automatic mode, but it's very limited. I would like a researchable option to improve this. Maybe that you can set priorities?

Conclusion
Most of the things I complained about are probably in the pipeline for development. This game comes kickstarted, and I guess the reason for early access is a combination of generating funds and beta testing. As long as the development continues to the end that is fine of course, but for players who desire the best experience, you might want to wait for the 1.0 release.
I strongly feel that The Servants aren't ready for playing yet. The moment my final goal was received, the game was practically over. Although I barely conquered space because I didn't pay attention at one point. But also the balance in space is lacking. Soon every moon and asteroid will have a base. There is no point in trying to get something further down the line, by the time you are ready to launch the spot is taken. There really should be heavy diminishing returns for holding many bases. It's also very tedious to manage many bases. Upgrading is annoying, and could use automation.
Thankfully I never partook in global research, and the other factions never bothered researching the inner nor outer planets, though there is the sci-fi romance!

My final complaint is that the factions kept quarrelling amongst themselves while the aliens were moving to dominance. They should unite in my opinion.

Great game, but may need some time to cook.

Pretty good jigsaw puzzle game, without free to play shenanigans.

Free to play, and over 150 DLC?
The elephant in the room, a recepy for disaster, right? In this case: no. There is a lot of content available for purchase, but that's for the few procents of players that complete every puzzle. In the game you aren't constantly reminded of the packs, it's not the core of the game.

The heart of the game, and the mechanics
I can happily say that the best experience is within free to play territory. The best experience comes with the monthly challenge. These are the best puzzles with 330 or 425 pieces, that takes 3-4 hours. When you complete them during the challenge, you keep the puzzle, and get an 'ultimate piece', a currency to buy any puzzle from the ingame store. You can buy a previous challenge. With this you can complete two nice puzzles, and for most people this is plenty. PP is best if you aren't in the mood for that demanding quadruple A game, and I find it perfect to play while listening to an audiobook!

When you complete any other puzzle outside the current monthly challenge, you gain 'gold pieces', generally 1-3 depending on the amount of pieces of the puzzle. These are the other currency required to unlock puzzles, but they require quite a lot of these. For instance, the old challenges cost 50 golden pieces to unlock. Smaller puzzles cost less, making the expensive ones ideal target for ultimate pieces!

Every random number of laid piece (I guess around ten) you get a hint token. With this you can reveal a ghost image beneath your puzzle for a very short time, fix the rotation of the piece, or reveal it's location, which costs more. Generally these hints aren't necessary, but you can use them in other puzzles, for instance those insane 1410 pieces puzzles, or what about an entirely orange one! Yes!

You can turn off turning of pieces, so that every piece is situated correctly from the getgo. It might not be realistic, but this isn't a simulator. It's an unnecessary complexity layer that just takes time, imo.

The cuts are nicely done, with a white and black edge to highlight the borders. They use different kind of cuts, since it's not limited by a physical piece, it can have literally every shape! They even use flat borders, to throw off those border starters. I approve, border starting is not the best technique.

What could be improved:
- This game screams to be 4k! There is a tremendous potential for detail with still images, and it can be easily downscaled. The menu is rather ugly, while it should be the billboard for new players! The puzzles should also be higher res, for the best experience. Even if todays players are generally HD equipped, the game could be more future orientated with a higher resolution. Make it 16k!
- Depth of field... Many puzzles are photographs with a depth of field. When you view depth with a lens, there is a focal point where the image is sharp, but further away and closer will be more blurry. Our eyes have it aswell, so it's quite natural. However, it's not great to puzzle blur. I am not familiar with the latest photography techniques, but I assume that nowadays it should be possible to make photos with many depths and everything focused. Some of the puzzles consist half out of blur, which is unacceptable frankly.
- The game has an iconic 'ping' when a piece clicks into place. This sound is very low bitrate and has some distortion, to such degree that I wondered often if my sound system is damaged. Please upgrade the ping!
- The themes of the backgrounds could use an overhaul. The most commonly used is 'zen', but it doesn't have a dark mode. It also doesn't remember your preferred setting, so every puzzle I have to bring forth the picture, set background to red and disable lotuses.

Conclusion
A relatively simple game, but a handful of my Steam friends play this regularly. And I am totally on board, it's great to play while listening carefully to a book or podcast. I also find it a great game to play with non-gamers! Most people who aren't into games do enjoy a puzzle. Jigsaw on pc offers many advantages.

Pricing of DLC:
Most packs get sales of 90%, with pack bundles receiving extra 25%, which results in very reasonable prices. It can be hard to identify the bundles. You can use Steam search, but it's kinda obscure. They should include a few bundles on the main page. A better way is visiting a pack's store page and see if it's in a bundle. A final method is via third party stores, you can find bundles via Steamgifts[www.steamgifts.com].

80/100
This is a tough game to score. I find it more a 75/100, however the enjoyment I see in my friends and experience myself would put it 85/100. Therefore I put it halfway.

A very varied pack with 25 puzzles, ranging 96-425 pieces.

A large pack that guarantees something to your liking. With a relatively low number of pieces, so you can finish most in about 1-4 hours.

Don't pay too much for this, the previous pack #22 is currently for sale for €1 six months after release, so that's quite a discount.
