I went into Danganronpa not certain what to expect. The only thing I knew was that it's an anime-style murder mystery visual novel with some social interactions and Ace Attorney inspired investigations and trials. I didn't even watch any of the trailers, to be honest. Perhaps that's the reason I was so invested when I've started playing the game for the first time. Because even though the story setting seems quite absurd, it's the overall presentation and a bunch of well-written characters that make Danganronpa so unique. Even when you're able to predict what will happen next, or who will die, there's a chance of a clever twist occuring in the meantime or afterwards, either changing your perception of some of the characters, or deepening the overall mystery surrounding the whole killing-game.

Truth be told, Danganronpa is quite linear and there's really only one solution to any given mystery or puzzle. That said, the game hides it all well and allows the player to make some choices of their own during free time, and offers some optional conversations or activities. Plus, it's the overall story and the characters you interact with that are the focus here. The investigations are quite easy, while the trials themselves require either a bit of logical thinking, or just a couple of attempts to get it right (when the logic fails you...), but they're all presented in a very appealing style, which also involves some really awesome and varied music.

I've played the game for the first time on the PSVita, but I got the PC version anyway and I can safely say that even though mouse+keyboard controls may seem weird at first, the port as a whole is quite good and should run on a potato (i.e. I'm running it fine on an ancient rig, 60fps, no issues whatsoever).

Strong recommendation on this one, if you're in any way interested in murder mysteries with some grotesque anime weirdness. Just do yourself a favor and play with the original japanese voices, and not the awful english dub...

Yet another awesome concept suffering from poor execution. You're building stuff on your ship that's made of hexagonal platforms, placing turrets, engines, containers, power generators and many more. Your goal is to make it to the end while fending off enemy attacks and protecting yourself from asteroids and other stellar phenomena. Basically, it's a quite clever and original tower defense.

Sounds great on paper, but I only ended up frustrated. Later levels are impossible to perfect without preparing way ahead to what's to come. The interface seems like it was made for a mobile device, even though - to my knowledge - the game is not available on any mobile platform. All the ship modules cluttered together are difficult to distinguish, which makes the already fast and micro-focused gameplay hard to get used to. Add to that the fact the visuals, music and sound effects are bland and boring, and that the storyline tries so hard to be funny it ends up being cringeworthy, and you've got yourself just a mediocre game.

You might find more fun here than I did, especially if you're not a "perfectionist" when it comes to this genre. Personally, I ended up disappointed.

I did not believe. I could not belive. I did not want to believe... The negative reviews, I mean...

I was fully aware this was not a High Moon game. That it would pale in comparison to War for Cybertron or Fall of Cybertron. And honestly, I didn't even expect it to be great. It's just that, after seeing how the same engine was used, as well as the assets, I thought: "Well, perhaps at the very least the shooting is going to be enjoyable? I mean, it cannot really be that bad, right...? right...?".

right...?

<sobs>

Lets start by addressing one of the most important things that's missing from this Transformers game, which is NEARLY ALL TRANSFORMATION SOUND EFFECTS. Call me crazy, but I remember spending two minutes pressing F over and over again when I first played War for Cybertron, only for nostalgia's sake. Yet here, off all the assets reused from other games, the only thing they should have reused is missing almost completely. Some of the robot transformations are completely silent.

Oh, right, speaking of assets, nearly everything other than voiceovers is reused in some way here, with very little new stuff added. And it's all put together in such a lazy way it's honestly just painful to watch. The environments are bland, empty, ugly, the sound levels are all over the place, the animation is wonky and the pre-rendered cutscenes are so low-res you'd think they were recorded off an Xbox One or something (heyoo!). Not to mention, the level design is a joke, leaving little to no room to use transformations in any fun way, and offering no interesting sights to look at.

But whatever, Fall of Cybertron was also short on vehicle segments. The question is, how good is the action?

It's not...

I can't even fully comprehend how they've manged it. Putting aside the fact that the luck/grind based item/weapon unlock system is utter garbage, and the controls somehow feel less responsive than the previous games, the real issue is the fact the enemies are glitchy, dumb and cheap. Enjoy shooting at enemies stuck inside or under a texture, running blindly into a wall while standing next to you, or sniping you from a long distance with a couple of extremely precise rapid fire rounds. Heck, even the Bruticus and Grimlock levels are glitchy and... boring... HOW DO YOU DO THAT?!

The only redeeming thing about the game are some of the dialogues between known characters and some background lore. Still, neither the Cybertron's, nor the Bay's "story" fit well anywhere within their respective timelines.

Oh, didn't I mention that about 1/3 of the game is based on Bayformers? As if things couldn't get any worse...

I got this game off a sale thinking it may not be AS bad as people say, and at the very least I'll enjoy some mindless action. I was wrong and I regret the purchase. I should have played Fall of Cybertron for the 10th time instead.

I'm just writing this to add a mere +1 to the overall pool of positive reviews.

The game is awesome, the combat is great, the music is glorious, the non-stop action is thoroughly enjoyable, the levels are varied, boss fights are epic, and there's tons of replay value. The story is laughable, but who cares about that when you can slice a giant mech into pieces after throwing it in the air on just the very first level.

Not to mention, the game runs at smooth 60fps on an ancient rig, despite what "Minimum Requirements" states.

No knowledge of previous Metal Gears is necessary to enjoy Rising.

How the hell a game with permanent stat progression can be considered a "rogue-like"?

And what's up with all those pseudo-twin-stick rogue-like games making you shoot small round blobs of goo as a primary attack? There's no feeling of impact, no sense of power, and the sound starts to drive you crazy really fast.

Ok, sure, the game has a unique theme, decent ideas and a nice aesthetic, but it's not really a good sign when the core gameplay gets boring after a mere hour. The fact that the game expects you to die only to raise your stats a little bit and start anew makes the whole experience tedious and grindy. Not to mention, all the weapons you find have (very) limited uses, and most items only give you passive upgrades, rarely any new cool ability. And even when you find new items you most likely won't have any inventory space left to pick them up, which even further limits your character and adds unnecessary item management to the mix.

Kind of a pitty, actually, because there was potential here. As it is though, it's just tedious and repetitive.

At first glance the game looks like something made in 1995 and upscaled to HD. The price is also suspiciously low. But don't let that fool you, because Star Staviors is a surprisingly decent and well made indie shmup, with a lot to offer.

The game is clearly inspired by some of the more popular titles in the genre, in a good way. It is simple and easy to get into, yet offers numerous game modes, difficulties, ship types and weapons to choose from. From what I've played on normal it seems fair, and the controls are responsive enough. The challenge is there, the shooting is enjoyable, and numerous achievements and modes encourage multiple playthroughs.

The game surely is not perfect and could have been improved in some areas, but as a whole it is really good. Simply put, I've had a lot of fun with with it. More so than with many other shmups, that are way more expensive and more hyped up. Great and catchy soundtrack also certainly adds a lot to the overall enjoyment.

Quite an awesome mix of a twin-stick arena shooter and bullet hell elements. Assault Android Cactus is simple and accessible at first glance, yet well thought out and compelling at its core. Not only is the combat fun and enjoyable, but the game also has some unique charm, mostly coming from cute and colourful aesthetic, as well as amusing and entertaining characters. There are several playable androids to choose from - each with different weapons - lots of unlockables, varied levels that dynamically change their layouts during combat, a handful of game modes, plus a local co-op for up to four players. The controls are tight on both mouse and keyboard and the gamepad, plus the game runs, looks and sounds great, even though it doesn't have high system requirements. What more could you ask for?

Well, you could ask for an ONLINE co-op... I mean, it's not like I have real life friends to play with offline... Also, while the story and characters are amusing and interesting, there's definitely way too little cut-scenes, aside from the opening and ending cinematics. I'd like to know more about the androids you unlock, aside from their short bios in the codex, and see them interact some more. Especially Starch.

Aside from these nitpicks though, the game is awesome and it definitely deserves more attention. There is a demo available, with several levels and androids to check out, so why not give it a try?

It's not only one of the best Transformers games out there, it's also one hell of an action game, with a unique theme, varied gameplay and lots of cool mechanics not present in other third person shooters. Though the story and execution are not as epic as the sequel - Fall of Cybertron - the overall gameplay is still thoroughly enjoyable and well paced. WfC also offers a bit better vehicle sections than FoC, and way better and more challenging boss fights. Not to mention, being able to select one of three characters available for a specific chapter is definitely a plus.

People familiar with the Transformers will immediatelly appreciate the amazing animations and the artstyle faithful to Generation One, but the overall graphics are impressive on their own. One drawback I can think of in that regard is that it can be too dark/brown at times, with enemies being hard to distinguish from the rest of the environment. As for the audio, let's just say it's almost flawless, featuring some great music tracks, quite powerful sound effects, and an amazing voiceover, with numerous actors reprising their roles as familiar robots from the original show.

Still, even though the PC port is very much playable, it's quite lacking in many respects. From unrebindable controls, 30fps lock, minimal graphics options, to a complete lack of DLC, and multiplayer being full of cheaters. That aside though, it's still an awesome shooter, worth playing despite these drawbacks for the story campaign alone.

Eeeeeeeehhhhh... I don't know... I'd feel bad giving this game a negative review, but honestly I'm not hugely impressed either.

The screen consists of 45% gold stars, 45% shiny numbers, and maybe 10% of bullets. For a bullet hell it's way too fast and chaotic, and for a shmup it's just incomprehensible. Sure, collecting gold stars and seeing huge numeric scores makes you think you're achieving something, but it's just an illusion. It's not to say the game is easy or poorly designed, but outside of it being flashy it's not really anything special. It's easy to get into, but difficult to master, yet falls on the casual side of things, especially if you consider the unlimited continues. Other than that the graphics are nice, the music is catchy, and three selectable fighters offer three different playstyles.

Regardless, after beating the game a few times I've just had enough, and don't really feel encouraged to play again, despite there being several gameplay modes. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather play a shmup with tighter controls and more comprehensible visuals. So again, it's not that the game is bad, but for me it's just... meh...
