I could say that this is a fan-service to the Final Fantasy fans, especially those familiar with the story of FF1 and the lore of Dissidia games on the PSP.

Story-wise, there's a lot to unpack in here, especially if you are paying attention to the "Fool's Missives" you collect along the way. It's such a mind-blowing take on the origin story of Garland, being FF1's major antagonist.

Gameplay-wise though, I could just give it a 7/10. It's fun enough but while it has soulslike elements, it doesn't feel like you're playing a soulslike game.(Hack and Slash at best). However, the customizability is flexible. You can create the build you want for your end game. Although the overwhelming influx of equipment kinda overstayed its welcome and It's kind of difficult to manage your item bag whenever it gets full of random equipment.

It may have performance issues, regardless if you're playing on a decent PC/laptop. (I played it on Steam Deck for the most part, and despite its being an unsupported game, it ran decently with frame drops at certain areas and cutscenes).

Overall, It's an enjoyable experience. It's not as bad as other players claim it to be. 7/10 overall.

There's been a stigma about short games being terrible and not worth it. I could say the opposite with What Remains of Edith Finch.

For an experience that can be completed for a measely 3-4 hours, there's a lot to be had in this game. The themes being explored in this game was very much explored through its rich narrative.

This is among those "walking simulators" that will make you play to really get to the bottom of something.
Definitely deserving of the award it won from way back in 2017!

Man, This is pretty much one of the best soulslike games I played to date in 2023 and beyond! I especially like the vintage meets dystopia atmosphere of this game. I'm super glad Korean game developers are piercing the triple A gaming market.

Already in Act 3 as of this writing, and I can personally understand now why this game won GOTY 2023, granted Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will still remain my personal GOTY.

The general vibe of this game is giving off a lot of Dragon Age vibes for me. What I personally enjoyed is the integration of DnD mechanics. I was hesitant about this before, since I never had any prior DnD experience but I never expected I'd be enjoying it. It demands a lot of time, but man, I'm hooked to this game. Playing it on the Deck and having a great time with it.

Update as of 2/5/24:

Man! Doing Raphael's Side quest was one of the best experiences in this game! I'm loving this!

This brings back not only the nostalgia of the original Final Fantasy 7 game from the Playstation 1 era but also brings the flavors of new gen gaming, not to mention adding a twist to the original story.. I don't see why there's a need to complain about it not being turn based, this is actually great. Could be better if they added the option to switch between two battle systems (turn-based and action rpg) but I couldn't ask for more with this.

The performance on PC is also optimal, considering that Square Enix has a bad track record with ports on PC from console versions, I like this one, it doesn't eat up a lot of my hardware. Also looks gorgeous even on lower resolution. Great game!

For transparency, I never tried any souls-like game before (despite owning DS1 prior to this game), but damn. I'm loving every moment of it.

I had my reservations about this game being a "git gud" title from among Hidetaka Miyazaki's work, but the souls formula coupled with the open world mechanic really worked well for me! This is BOTW all over again but more git gud. Elden Ring truly served as a good entry title to Souls-like games, at least for me. I am itching to try the other souls-like games because of this, albeit their linear approach. They're still gitgud titles, after all. I welcome the challenge.

I will add more to this review once i further progress, but damn I must say that the critical reviews really did this game justice, Great stuff, FromSoft!

Always a fan of Monster Hunter Series.

World made it a bit definitive albeit a few things that hold it back (e.g. the unskippable cutscenes). But nevertheless, IT IS a GREAT title in the series.

Music is mesmerizing, i am a sucker for post-apocalyptic premise in games. Definitely recommend! Can't wait to play NieR Replicant as well.

UPDATE: I only played 1/3 of the entire game (considering its multiple endings and such) and here I am, actually getting engaged to ace this game at 100% completion with all 26 endings conquered.. Never a dull moment! Kudos Platinum and Square Enix!

UPDATE: Perfected the game with all 47 Achievements. My review of this would be probably late since I finished it last March 5, 2022. Nevertheless, my review from before still stands... and MORE! Again Great game! Also I am a sucker for games with heavy philosophical themes (Nietzche's philosphy is strong in this game), Great game! I would love to go back to this game again for the fun of "speedrunning" through it.
