From Love to Rage: My Journey with The First Descendant

I’ve never experienced such a complete 180 on a game before. I went from loving The First Descendant to absolutely hating it more than any other game I've ever played. Let me explain how this happened.

It all started when Hailey dropped in the latest update. I checked out her skills and builds and was immediately hooked. I decided I had to grind to unlock her. Then I saw the requirements: 36 item pieces per part, and there are four parts in total. I figured, “Alright, no big deal, I’ll probably get 3-5 pieces per run.” But that’s when reality hit me.

After finishing the main missions, I unlocked the invasion missions, which are necessary to farm the pieces. You need to hit gold rank to earn 3 pieces per invasion. So, I dived into the invasion missions, and to be honest, they were challenging, but not impossible. It felt new and exciting at first. But here's where things took a dark turn.

You’re only allowed two invasion runs per dungeon, and there are only two dungeons. That means you get just 4 entries per invasion cycle. So, the grind quickly became ridiculous. It felt like I was time-gated, stuck behind a wall of endless grinding. Sure, they increased the drop rates in a patch, but it was still far from enough to make the grind feel reasonable.

Since invasions weren’t enough, I switched to running dungeons. The drop rate here? One piece per run. That’s right, one. And I needed 36 pieces per part. Four parts. You do the math. Even with the slightly increased drop chance, it was beyond frustrating. After countless hours of running both invasions and dungeons, I finally got Hailey after four full days of non-stop grinding.

But the real nightmare was only just beginning. Enter: the RNG reactor grind.

In this game, farming reactors is pure pain. First of all, there’s a pool of 21 possible stat modifiers, and each reactor comes with two random stats. These stats have three rarity levels: blue, purple, and gold. Naturally, I was aiming for the best—the gold rarity. But even if you get the right stat, there’s a range within each rarity. So, a blue stat might give you 1,800 damage to colossus or 2,000, depending on your luck.

And then there’s the mounting system. The reactor’s bonuses only fully apply if you equip it with a specific weapon. For Hailey, I needed the reactor to work with Piercing Light. I also wanted two specific modifiers: Skill Crit DMG and DMG to Colossus.

Here’s where I lost it. After days of farming, I couldn’t get the exact god roll I needed. I’d get the right stats but in blue rarity with the lowest possible values. And it wasn’t just me—my friends experienced the same frustration. We all kept getting the god roll stats in gold rarity, but for the wrong weapon. Instead of Piercing Light, we’d get it for Smithereens, a completely different weapon.

I don’t know what’s going on with the RNG in this game, but it feels broken. Me, my friends, and even randoms I’ve talked to have all experienced this same weird pattern. It’s like the game knows exactly what you want and then gives you something just slightly off, like it’s trolling you on purpose.
