This game is designed to kick you in the balls till you stop playing it. Speaking to it's design, it does that perfectly.

This game is-

• grindy
  
• RNG
  
• difficult as all kinds of ♥♥♥♥
  
• going to take you to destination ♥♥♥♥ed ...MANY TIMES.
  
• going to make you agonize for 20 minutes or more just to prepare your teams for an assault
  
• going to make you lose a high level character, and then realize you need to grind a whole new one back up to that level, and then realize that it can die along the way as well.
  
• going to make you realize that once you FINALLY start attempting the final dungeon, YOU HAVE TO RAID IT OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
  
• the embodiment of: 'abandon all hope, ye who enter here'

This is not a nice game, and there's times where the game is going to say LOLNOPE, and you're going to hate it. If you think that's fun, (as in - you lost 1-4 good characters and it set you back about ten or more hours) then by all means get it.

I also haven't fully achieved all the caretaker goals yet - but I can run level 6 dungeons on zero torchlight and not lose people, so there is that.

Also, I should probably stream this, people would get a laugh at what profanity comes out of my mouth, yet i still keep playing.

Anyway, don't buy it. Unless you also enjoy when a game smashes you randomly.

The appeal is for a fairly niche audience that doesn't take life very seriously. I didn't suck at it, but I don't want to recommend the game to people - especially if they think they're going to be awesome at it. This is not the game you are looking for.

And so, this review is done. I did not exaggerate anything by the way. looking at the basic game completion achievements, its at 1.7%, even on the easiest difficulty. "19 Jan, 2017 @ 9:12am" Game has been out for a year or so on steam so far..

EDIT: Just checked again. it's at a staggering 2.1% now, in the time between when i first posted this review to now. let that sink in for just a moment. "1 Feb, 2018 @ 1:08pm"

EDIT2: spelling, etc. The game has changed a bit, they nerfed a lot of the clever combinations players created for the first couple playthroughs after launch, but mods thankfully undo the nerfs. Strongly recommend using those mods to take the game back to what it was in 2017, character stat wise, anyway. If you decide to play vanilla, you're in for a rough ride, its pretty tough. Do-able. but very tough.

It's like team fortress.

Except your fortress has 4-8 turrets on it and you fly it into enemy fortresses.


Warning. This is a game that you'll start playing at a normal hour.....then you'll check the time and its dark outside and 0200hrs in the morning.

may cause wife aggro and league of legends bronze chat levels of salt.

aggro/10, would aggro a wife again.

Tried to drink out of a toilet, and couldn't.

EDIT: The creation club is utter highway robbery. But most forms of PAID MODS will be like that.

I recommend against this game.

May 17 2018: Even though it's been taken off the store, and no one cares about this peice of ♪♪♪♪ for a title anymore, I thought I'd wrap up my review to whoever tf can still see it by saying, I was right. Hawken servers are all offline now, the game finally died.

Character leveling and stats is more in-depth and weapons are customizable and craftable. you can play as any hero, save for the douchey little... uhh... 'generic' officers (who gives a damn about them anyway)

Plus Lu Bu. And the female characters are all attractive. with tig bittys. <wut>

and Lu Bu.

and Guan Yu.

And Zhou Tai.

And Sun Ce.

and take the emperor hostage.

and Zhuge Liang.

And that big chungus with a club.

and lose the emperor when someone sets all your troops on fire and defeats you permanently.

and Zhou Yu.

And Sun Shang Xiang.

And Dian Wei.

and burn down a forest.

And Zhang Fei

and Liu Bei.

and attack a giant castle you have no hope of surviving against.

and Zhu Rong. (but oh so right.)

and Lu Meng.

and get stabbed in the back by a giant pike wielding maniac with a really sweet hat and last name of Bu because you tried to chase him you idiot what were you thinking, he is using a giant halberd with one freaking hand! ONE HAND! but oh no, stabby stabby, try to win. die again. oh no, try to win again. died again.
