CSGO REVIEWS HAVE BEEN MERGED WITH CS2 REVIEWS WHICH IS SCUMMY
(this has been updater after almost a year from the full release, csgo reviews are able to be distinguished from cs2 reviews although they still show up when you try to read reviews for cs2.)

The fact that valve is replacing CSGO with and incomplete and buggy product is inexcusable. Many modes and maps are still missing, the game is ripe with cheaters and the fact that we still don't have 128 tick servers is just infuriating. I truly believe that CS2 will get to a good place someday, and it is the future of CS. However my review for the game will not change until the game will be feature complete, with proper 128 tick servers and improved netcode, with an anti cheat that actually works.

Edit: some more ♥♥♥♥ wrong with this game,

CANT PLAY A CUSTOM GAME WITH A FRIEND
INCONSISTENT PERFORMANCE/FPS DROPS AS WELL AS A HIGHER ACCESSIBILITY REQUIRMENTS
I CANT PLAY WITH MY FRIENDS ON MAC BECAUSE ♥♥♥♥ THOSE PEOPLE IN PARTICULAR I GUESS

THEY PAID FOR CSGO AND NOW THEY CANT PLAY CS AT ALL
(Mac users can still play csgo legacy but only on community servers)

This type of ♥♥♥♥ should be available on release, VALVE GET YOUR HEADS OUT YOUR ASSES PLS

I thought that as a private company Valve would have been better then the EA's and Activisions of the industry but i guess even they're not immune to greed :(

Update:

at the time of writing i've got 1840h logged

My initial reaction/review was pretty scathing and emotionally charged as that was the atmosphere at the time of release. Honestly, my opinions on the matter haven't changed much. For example, the fact that I still cant 1v1 my friends or run scrims on custom maps without setting up a server, is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ infuriating. That being said, I think I understand why things are the way they are. Valve is a HUGE company, in the sense they make a lot of money, but their size is very very small, as well as their structure and work culture being atypical. From what I gathered there are around 400 employees at valve with around 40 working on cs at any given time. That is incredibly small for a company of that "size". I believe that the devs at valve are very very talented/skilled, and the reason for them not hiring an outside studio to help develop the game is because that is exactly what they did for csgo initially and I believe that in their eyes it was a mistake. I'm pretty sure it made the game harder to develop and support in the long term. I think they've got ideas and a vision, and they don't want anyone else to ♥♥♥♥ with it.

I originally spoke of greed. Here's why I was wrong. The game gets frequent updates and none of them are content updates. I expected valve to capitalize on the new player base and push out a new case or operation shortly after release in order to make money, as we all know, that did not happen. Instead, valve is just fixing the game, trying to get it to a "state". What state that is? I don't know, but I am confident that once that state is reached, then and only then will we see new content like cases or an op.

CSGO is still playable on communty servers. A lot of people, including me, were falsely claiming that the game is going to be deleted. I am sorry for spreading that misinformation. That part of the review has been deleted.

Issues still in the game as of Februrary 3rd 2024

-Performance, Idk if its an issue with my specific pc, but im getting less than 120fps (I get dips to around 90-80, sometimes, very rarely below 60-40) most of the time with an rtx 2060 super and a ryzen 5 2600x, 16gb ram and an nvme gen3 ssd with windows 10 pro. my gpu/cpu utilization rarely goes above 60% while running the game and usually stays at around 50%. Wierd ♥♥♥♥, idk why this is, ive resorted to extreme solutions (custom drivers/powerplan and other optimizations) and it didnt improve my performance by a significant margin. I cant make proper use of my 144hz monitor which is really frustrating. Computer is taken care of, cleaned regularly and a fresh installation of windows roughly once a year (around every December). I have friends with lesser pcs getting similar performance. (Notably a gtx 1050ti)

-Cheaters. Okay i'll say it, i suck ♥♥♥♥ at the game. I feel like i just started to make significant progress and have gotten the basic mechanics down. That being said, ive been in games all the way from around 1k elo to 20k elo (current elo is 9k but I often play with friends that are 15-20k, mostly 15k) and Ive spotted obvious wallhackers in many games, its a problem. The higher elo you have the more likley you are to run up against a cheater. Have yet to see someone spinning

- General lack of content

- Small bugs. model desync in demos, animation bugs in game, vfx bugs in game (stuff like my knife or someones legs being on fire), occasional server ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, which brings me to

-tickrate/subtick Im not technichally knowledgeable enough to understand everything so here's my layman perspective. Mostly, the servers feel fine. Not great, not terrible, just fine. I still die behind walls, I still have sitiuations where I KNOW for a fact a shot should have connected but it did not, however they are not too common. movement and spraying still feel off to me although im getting more used to it the more I play

-Basic features missing This has been beat to DEATH. Left hand, BOB, Clear decals, private lobbies, modes. Id be fine waiting for danger zone but the fact wargames are still missing is inexcusable. Let me play retakes and arms race FFS

In conclusion.

I love CS. I really do, I started playing it as a kid, and cs has been the only game that i have consistently come back to throughout my life. I think overall, despite it's issues, cs2 is a good game, and I believe, that over time it will become greater than we could ever imagine. That being said, I'm leaving my review as negative. CS2 should have gotten it's own store page and the reviews should not have been merged. Lack of modes present in CSGO is dissapointing. Anticheat is in a sorry state. All in all, they should have cooked it more before releasing in my opinion. I get it's hard working on certain things without data, feedback and testing, however that does not mean valve should be using their player base as their QA team. As a side note to end my review on, the major qualifiers this year have been a joke so far, and a slap in the face to the competitive community.

Once things have been addressed, I will update my review to a positive one.

If anyone at valve reads this, I hope you have a good day. I believe in you guys
