VRChat: A User's Journey Through the Years with over 20 000 hours

2017: Knuckles Mania
My VRchat adventure began in the wild days of 2017. The air crackled with Ugandan Knuckles yelling memes like "Do you know the way?" and "We need to find the queen!" It was chaotic, hilarious, and a true sign of the platform's potential.

2018: The Rise of Avatars and Anime
Fast forward a year, and the Knuckles faded (RIP). Anime avatars and e-boys took center stage. I encountered some questionable loli-con groups, but there were also incredible meme worlds and avatar showcases. This sparked my own interest in anime, and I embarked on a journey of discovery through countless shows.

2019: The Battle Against Crashers
This year brought a dark turn. Players nicknamed "crashers" used malicious avatars to exploit the game and force others to disconnect. The VRchat team bravely fought back with safety settings and a trusted user system (RIP legendary rank). Despite the struggles, the hunt for genuine connections continued in the public worlds.

2020: A Pandemic Oasis
The world went into lockdown, and VRchat became a social lifeline. Everyone, it seemed, was an anime girl or an e-boy, and many world "ERP" (erotic roleplay) . Cheaters and avatar theft remained concerns, but the camaraderie in public worlds grew. Covid also brought a surge in online activity - a double-edged sword.

2021: A Time for Reflection
VRchat needed a break, and so did I. I stepped away to recharge.

2022: The Wired Bunch
Returning in 2022, I found the familiar faces (mostly anime girls and e-boys) alongside some truly unique characters. From head-pat enthusiasts to cuddle connoisseurs, VRchat continued to surprise. The constant stream of "mirror people" (users fixated on their avatars) was a new quirk, however.

2023: Finding My Place
A six-month break in 2023 and cone back in August mouth - a VRchat bar with a strict community. Vrchat anti cheat was a big problem but it fix it. Not many kids there us to be, no crashes, and no cheaters. The search for meaningful connections, however, continued in the vast public worlds.

2024: The Evolving Metaverse
The VRchat journey continues. While the player base isn't what it once was, and funny memes feel rarer, the platform's potential remains. I venture into public worlds, ever hopeful for that spark of connection or unexpected adventure. I'm still in public worlds and continue my vrc addiction. I recommend vr headset to get the fully experienced be a desktop is not enough to really enjoy the virtual reality
