Stacklands is like no other game I have ever played. After seeing the game on the Steam Homepage, I watched a short video of the gameplay to see what it was like. After watching the first few minutes of the video, I decided that I would like to try this card-based game with simple mechanics.

To start, a boost pack containing a villager, coin, rock and wood and a berry bush is delt. Most of these items can be sold to get coins in order to purchase more booster packs but the main aim is to get enough food to feed the villagers before the end of the day.

If all villagers die then the game is over.

I enjoyed the satisfaction of seeing the amount of food increasing throughout the day and knowing that they would all survive for another day while other villagers were working to obtain resources. When a new structure is made, the process of making the raw resources into better building materials becomes easier meaning that the building of new structures is made easier.

Watching the village grow is great.

Often, the game does throw in some events to keep the game interesting.

However, after playing the game for a couple of hours, the game can become repetitive due to the lack of different items and the same events happening. It can also be frustrating when items do not stack as you want them to. For example, resources can not be added to piles that villagers are working on without assistance. This gets annoying after needing to manually do this every couple of seconds.

In conclusion, I think that Stacklands is a good cheap game to spend a couple of hours with. The simple game mechanics mean that it is easy to jump straight into but I feel that some more cards need to be added to the game to increase the replayability.
