This game is definitely worth checking out for the fantastic art and story direction, though it borrows a lot from Silent Hill. The puzzles are fun too. However, I did not like the combat very much, it felt really clunky, rooms are very claustrophobic and dealing with enemies at close range is really annoying. The limited inventory system was a constant annoyance to work with the whole game, even with the expanded inventory setting. All in all, the atmosphere and storytelling is on point, but I did not love the gameplay.

I don't think I'm going to finish this. It seems like it might be perfectly fine way of experiencing Persona 3 for the first time, but it just doesn't feel like a new enough experience to me, having played the Portable version. For a $70 launch price I was really hoping they would've put in a lot more work and taken more creative liberties with this remake. The new visuals are fine, and the new soundtrack is fantastic, but the story, level design, and social links seem to be almost entirely unchanged from the original, and dear god some of those social links did not age well. Sure they added some quality of life features to the combat, but this game overall still has nowhere near the same level of depth that Persona 5 had, 8 years before this. And that game didn't cost $70! Why is this so expensive???? You can't even play as a girl in this version??? The bonus campaign from the FES version costs EXTRA?????

Maybe check this out in a few years when there's a good deal on it, just so you can hear Lotus Juice rap about his chill vibes.

An absolute 5/10 game. Not terrible, not great. The live action scenes are neat, the writing is ok, though I think they went a little overboard with the villain. The combat's fine, but the new enemy types are not very interesting. At least it's short enough to finish in one sitting.

I still love this game so much. Super fun unique combat, gorgeous visuals, great voice acting, very silly story but told really well. Those cutscenes are crusty as hell, but everything else holds up super well.

Since this is a game about unraveling a mystery, it's important for you to go in with as little information about it as possible, so all I will say is, please, if you haven't checked this game out yet, I am begging you to check it out. It's become one of my favorite video game experiences of all time.

Writing a review for this game seems kinda pointless since like EVERYONE has played it, but still! This game is incredible, easily FromSoft's best Souls game. Its world is massive and densely populated, though this often leads to a lot of noticeably samey levels and boss fights. The combat is pretty similar to Dark Souls 3, but with some very nice improvements, partly thanks to better movement in order to traverse the huge open world. While this game has many stupidly easy boss fights, it also has some of the hardest and most spectacular boss fights in FromSoft history. Co-op is the most accessible it's ever been, but is still just as hellish as the Souls games thanks to very frequent PvP invaders. The PC port is pretty rough due to frequent stuttering and performance issues, though they have made small improvements to it over time. The graphics aren't really anything special by today's standards, but the environment art direction is pretty strong, offering many gorgeous vistas.

Overall, game is way bigger than it needs to be but is still very good.

This is a perfectly fine alternative to Pokemon. The combat's unique levels of unpredictability make it pretty engaging, and the excellent animation makes it feel very satisfying. The monster progression system is a bit strange but it works pretty well, and gives you an interesting way of customizing your monsters. The art style is very nice. The Monster Hunter monsters look great here, with a much more cutesy look than in the mainline games, but still a bit weirdly realistic compared to the very chibi-styled human characters. I didn't really check out the multiplayer. It seems dead?

The story is a lot more intricate than I'd expect from a Monster Hunter game, but it is still very flawed. As someone who did not play the first game, I was kinda hoping that the story would be standalone like the mainline games, but that was really not the case here. You meet many returning characters from the first Monster Hunter Stories, with many references to those events as well. This isn't really a big deal, but it did feel like I missed out on a lot of callbacks and jokes because I didn't play the first game.

My biggest problem with the story is the player character's grandfather, Red. He is a legendary hero who died many years before the events of the game. For some reason, the game's story focuses on him to the point of obsession. Many of the characters you meet throughout the game were either good friends with Red or have heard about him, and so he is mentioned in nearly every cutscene of the game, even going as far as to show flashbacks of him when he was younger. This makes the player character seem so insignificant and irrelevant to the plot of the game, that every thing they accomplish is all thanks to how cool Red was. It's just not very inspiring.

Still though, the final boss was cool as hell, and the ending of the game was pretty satisfying. I'm sure there's a ton of content to be had in the postgame, but I stopped after the credits. If you're ever in the mood for a Pokemon-like monster-collecting RPG, totally check this out! Or maybe the first game if you can? I don't know!

This is a very simple but charming little game. If you're a fan of the kinds of stories told in Yoko Taro's games (NieR, Drakengard), then you'll really like this one. The card-based tabletop RPG-styled presentation is excellently done, and is a great way to make a game with a small budget. The art on the cards is wonderful and the character designs are pretty fun, and the way the cards are animated adds a lot to the immersion. The solo narrator, while a bit repetitive at times, does a great job telling the story and voicing all the characters, and the occasional fourth-wall breaks are a good touch. The game has turn-based RPG combat that is very basic and easy to understand, but pretty satisfying thanks to the wonderful card animation and sound design. If you're up for a casual RPG experience that is short and sweet, you really can't go wrong with this game.

It's very weird to see an entire full-length sequel to Persona 5 with Dynasty Warriors-style action combat, but it's a really cool idea and it's surprisingly well-done! While this game's menu animations aren't quite as immaculate as the original game's, they did a fantastic job carrying over the look of Persona 5 into this engine, to the point where a lot of the time it literally just looks like more of P5, but now running in 60fps. Per Persona tradition, the OST is still absolutely amazing, even in what is essentially a spin-off, and with that classic Warriors-style buttrock flavor appropriately mixed in as well.

The combat is very interesting at first. While attack combos and switching between characters feels a lot like other recent Warriors games, it still has a LOT of mechanics from P5. Sneaking up on enemies, going in and out of battle encounters, Persona skills, elemental weaknesses, all-out attacks, managing your HP and SP with items, even a lite Confidant system is here. However, much like Warriors games, you are often fighting a LOT of enemies at once, and nothing seems to stop all of them from attacking you at once, with all sorts of different abilities. This makes the combat VERY overwhelming for me, to the point where I definitely prefer Persona games' usual turn-based combat.

As someone who wasn't particularly impressed by the story and characters in Persona 5, it's kind of hard to get into this game for those same aspects, especially since a lot of it feels like a retread of the original game's plot points anyway. I almost dropped this game entirely since the story is pretty samey in the first few dungeons. Still, if you really like the cast of Persona 5, then you might have a great time with this game.

So far this is by far my favorite of the Pixel Remasters. It looks great, the OST is slapping, and the game feels very nicely balanced. The dungeons don't feel super drawn-out with ridiculous enemy encounter rates. Enemies do a decent amount of damage, but so do your party members. As someone who never got very far in previous versions of the game, the story was pleasantly surprising as well, with a much bigger world than I expected, especially after playing the previous two games. If there is any FF Pixel Remaster you should check out, it's this one.

And hey, if you're a fellow FFXIV player, you may appreciate this game even more, too.
