Starbound has the groundworks for a very good, and addictive experience. However if you plan to buy it be mindful that this is still beta, tough I would call it pre-beta as a lot of features are missing or unbalanced and it can wound your enjoyment when basic things about the game get changed overnight (Im looking at you, no more fuel from trees-> less planet jumping early game) Nevertheless I enjoyed 90% of my gametime while the other 10% was about crafting the highest gear which is very tedious. The tier system gets annoying after the 4th as it gets repetative, this is because the requirement to jumping to a higher crafting tier is the same for each tier from 4 up but with different ore, this made me just skip enemies until i got the best gear i could but from then there was no point of killing monsters or doing anything as there is no main goal yet impemented in the game and the sandbox features are not yet completed.

Bottom line, you will enjoy this game if you are like me, you will enjoy exploring the game world and the mechanics, you will enjoy mining and crafting all the worthy gear that you could need (grappling hook is essential tough energy requirement is a BIG and i mean BIIIG turn off) But after you saw everything or at least the major things you will get bored. It took me about 60 hours to experience this, maybe it will take more for you, maybe less. But after that you just have to put it aside and wait for stage 2 to play it as a true game (at least i hope so, story aside if we get all the sandbox features by then I'm a happy consumer)
