A friend and I were very happy to try playing this in Online Co-Op, bought it on a Sale and got pretty angry for 2H trying to make it work.
The Online Co-Op is like a lottery, either you both have the one Network/Router Configuration the game is fine with or Online Multiplayer is not going to work for you.
Tips from the DEVs are things like:
- trying using a VPN so you have a static IP4 Address (oh sorry I don't want to buy some decent VPN Service just so I can play the game, are srsly? )
- Port-forward all 10.000 ports between 20.00 - 30.000 (wow ... just saying normal router only allow 255 ports per Setup, meaning I'd have todo that for ~40 times and make whole network vulnerable)
- Call your Internet Provider to help ...
.... I don't know, when you this problem is very common and as DEV you start giving "tips" like that as a "common" solution, don't you ask yourself if your online-feature may need a rework?

(Before I start, I am sorry for my bad English :P and i played this game over 4000h, but not always through steam :)m which means the shown hour count is wrong :) )

My reason for a review

When looking at Steam reviews, IngameTime should be a critical factor ( a filter for that is still missing :( )

So why am I writing a review now?`After such a long time ... it is because APB:R Devs (Tiggs the heart of APB:R) have talked to us recently in an honest way. apbdb.com Dev Tracker[apbdb.com]

APB:R is an Open-World Cops vs. Crims Third Person Tactic Shooter with many up and downsides. I will start with the bright side, from my point of view.

Customization

You can customize your cars, characters, clothes and even weapons with weapon skins, to an amount that no other game can serve.
Furthermore you can create Ingame Kill-Themes, Songs, Symbols and more to make yourself as individual as possible.
All this is acquired through the Social District.

Actual Gameplay

You can chosse between Actions Districts and Fight Club.

Fight Club is a massive BigTeam Deathmatch with “optional Objectives” like Capture the item. When joining Fight Club you should be aware that this is the place where the most experienced players run around (and try hard cheater). It can be fun, but I never enjoyed it for long.

Actions Districts are the PvP Core of APB.
These Districts are categorized into 4 Threats. (worst to best) Green – Bronze – Silver – Gold.
Green and Gold server are ALWAYS empty, because all Golds join Silver, all Silver and Bronzies join Bronze Districts.
The reason behind this is, that there is no 'working' Matchmaking in APB. Each District can have up to 50 crims + 50 cops, and getting a fair match out of 50 opposed enemies at the best, means no fair match at all.
Furthermore APB is not like any other Shooter, Mapknowledge, tactical gameplay, teamplay, choosing the right weapon for the right situation … that all are things CS, COD etc. don't teach you.
Good aim is fine, but it wont save your ass at all^^.

When you are matched against other players, you have to Defend or Attack Points. That means Arsoning Cars, Windows.... breaking open Cars Doors Windows … Collecting Items and dropping them of … Deathmatches …. protect the VIP and more.

Because Actions Districts are Open-World, each Spot and Objective needs his own tactic, which is one of the reasons why even new Players with God Like aim (aimbotter) get beaten by Veteran players. Cheater are a problem APB, like in ANY other Shooter, nothing exceptional out of the box here ^^

What makes it great

But that is what makes APB so special, you are clever? APB will reward you. You can apply fast to changing situations? APB will reward you? You have fun with customization? APB will reward you. You are not a sore looser and learn from your MANY defeats? APB will reward you.
You are looking for a shooter, where teamplay can outsmart the best players? APB will reward you.

In APB EVERY tactic is legit, Camping, rushing, running, stunning, confusing enemies … etc..
There will NEVER be a situation in APB which is impossible to come over.

What makes me hate it at the same time

I could talk hours about what I like about APB, but sadly I could do the same about what I hate.

Matchmaking and the skill gap makes it VERY hard for new players without veteran friends to attach to this game.
Unstable Servers, because of DDOS or other reasons are common currently :(
Most toxic Community ever! (Which is 100% fault of the Devs, because they don't talk with community enough (1 important answer in MONTHS is not enough :( ))
Thousands of broken promises.
TOOOOOOO much real money content instead of new Ingame content -.-
Console Upgrade (so useless -.-)

But

But there is no other game like APB and once attached you love this game and hate it.
My suggestion is, when starting the game, search yourself a group of players, which take your hand and guide you through the first days.
And for those already playing it, help new players give your enemies tips inside the mission. For them Veteran players are even worse then cheater (which from their point of view is the same xD)

Side note

APB IS NOT pay to win.
Best weapons Ingame are aquired in your first hours. Star, Ntec, NHVR (Sniper), PMG etc... all those are weapons which can conter ANY other weapon! The only reasons some one looses is because the other side IS better.!

UPDATE: 24.11.2016
