Don't get me wrong, if I was reviewing the game for itself being just what it is this review would be extremely positive. However, this isn't a review of The Last of Us, this is a review of the PC port of The Last of Us. I have been waiting for nearly a decade (this game took way too long for Sony to port to PC) to play this game for myself as I never saw version exclusives as a reason for me to buy a console when I've been gaming on PC for over a decade. When I heard this game was receiving a PC port, I was ecstatic. I'd finally get to play one of the greatest games from the early teens. If only I knew what I know now: we'd be receiving a very shoddy port job courtesy of Iron Galaxy :). I don't want to cause anyone to stray away from this game (as it truly is one of the greatest, story-rich games of all time), but in the current state the game has been released in, I simply cannot recommend anyone buying it. If anything, wait for a sale or wait for the game to be released in a (hopefully) fixed state. Granted if you're really impatient, I hope you're okay with dealing with the game crashing every 30ish minutes or so. I still intend to play through and just suck it up and deal with the crashes, but this has been an eye opener that, even with ports unfortunately, it's best to wait and see how the quality of the port is prior to making a purchase. Again I reiterate, this review is only negative until they fix the crashing issues.

TL;DR: An amazing, story-rich game unfortunately marred by constant crashes.

Update: I learned they've extended their refund policy for this game and have since refunded and gotten my money back. I will either use that money on the game at a later point in time after the crashing has been patched or (more likely) spend that money on Star Wars Jedi Survivor when that comes out at the end of the month. Whichever (probably the latter) comes first.

Surprisingly solid. I just wish I there was co-op so I could watch my friends terror as spider-train approaches.

Been waiting for this game for a while. I'm really impressed so far visually and gameplay-wise (for the most part). I will say the controls feel a tad clunky at moments and I don't know if it was just me, but I feel at times I was experiencing input lag which resulted in me dying over and over again. Otherwise, I look forward to playing further into this game. It truly does feel like a classic style LoZ game.

Rating: 11/10

This is most definitely one of the best games out there to date. I played it originally back during the launch of this game in 2018 and was utterly disappointed at how little there was to do (at the time the only things in the game were missions for the Order of Souls, Gold Hoarders, or Merchant Alliance, fighting skeleton forts, or sailing around on a galleon or sloop just taking in the scenery). As you can assume, with only that to do the game go old fast and my friend and I quit after logging likely only 10 hours. I came back to this game with a huge squad of friends when it dropped on steam in June of 2020 and I was amazed at how much had changed. People often talk about how No Man's Sky had a disappointing launch but got better as the devs did not quit and continued updating it. I would argue Sea of Thieves is one hundred and ten percent in that same exact category. By that time they added all sorts of new world events, emissaries, alliances, FOTD, and new trading companies to work with and represent. This game absolutely had one of the biggest Cinderella stories when it comes to launch day vs. now. And even to this day, the devs continue to give monthly updates to the game to keep it interesting. Even though I've maxed out Merchant, Gold Hoarder, and Order of the Souls, I plan to keep returning to enjoy these updates. Rare puts a lot of care into this game and has truly defined themselves as one of the best group of devs out there for sure. Case in point, look at the whole Glitterbeard quest line, a tribute to a staff member of theirs who passed during the pandemic. It all just shows they care a whole lot about not only the game but they people who play it and work on it alike. A lot of these dev companies can learn a thing or two from Rare.

I also recommend this game for the interactions with other players I've had alone. Yes I won't lie, this game has a massive toxic player base. I'm not even joking when I tell you two nights ago every distinct ship we sank screamed homophobic and racist slurs at us while we sank them (totaling to three ships). But the very next day we came across a group of players and were friendly which led to us joining up on discord. Even though I admit, you'll meet more toxic players than you will friendly ones, you just gotta keep sailing for those diamonds in the rough. They're out there, you just gotta keep looking.

In the end, I cannot recommend this game enough. I stand by my 11/10, even if the game can be buggy and the player base can get a little toxic at times. I've met so many great friends in this game and have made so many awesome memories since returning to the Sea of Thieves.
