I understand why you'd say the characters are lacking in variety, but I'd say that lack of variety works in the game's favor. If there's a lack of variety, that also means the characters are fairly close in terms of skillcap.

Minor detail: There are currently two characters who can use the cannon, them being Xull (Orc general) and Sidra (The "new cannon chick").

to me, the gameplay feels bland because all the characters use the same weapons accept for the new cannon chick. And also, the game just feels clunky on this and ps4

Some characters are pretty cookie cutter, but I dont know about bland gameplay. IMO better than smash.
