Days gone was the surprise favorite of 2021 for me.

Pros:

-Graphics, game world is incredibly good looking and detailed, it truly feels like a post apocalyptic world.

-Bike, the bike is tied to you as a player and is a big part of the game, also is really damn fun to ride around.

-Weather, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. This game has truly dynamic weather and it's definitely the best weather I've seen in any game so far.

-Soundtrack, main menu theme is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing, rest of the soundtrack is damn good too.

-Story, didn't really know what to expect from Days Gone when I first looked at game reviews for it, every critic said it was a good game but had a bland story, while I can understand that for the first act, the second and third acts were really good, and had me wanting to play more and more of it. Final mission of the game was incredible.

-Characters, main cast is great and they are all very likeable, I ended up caring for the characters way more than I thought I would

-Combat, personally I liked the combat, Deagle is very fun to use but I there can be a bit of frustration with the bloom.

-Melee weapons, my god is the sledgehammer fun to use, machete and fire axe are also respectable choices
Cons:

-First act is a bit boring, the real story doesn't begin until act two and there's a lot of back and forth in act one.

-Night time is too bright, basically night vision when it's supposed to be pitch black

-Fade to black on every single story mission, not sure why they had to do this, but it can take you out of the story when the game fast forwards time from night to day and then fades into black and out again to start a mission.

-Boot knife is way too weak, zombies die to headshots from crossbows and bullets, yet a very capable Deacon somehow needs ~8-10 stabs to kill one

-Nothing to really do after beating the game, aside from killing hordes and infestation zones, once you've done the main quests and side quests there isn't much to do, no talking to characters, no minigames, just photomode, challenges, and achievements.

-Wish it would have had a bit more survival mechanics, worrying about gas and materials is nice but an RDR2 style survival system would've been amazing IMO.

After giving this game another last few hours I have made the following conclusions:

The game is not fun to play, key points being that the framerate is constantly below 60fps on medium settings on 1080p resolution an RX 5700XT and Ryzen 3600 that is capable of running RDR2 on maximum settings on 1440p at 60fps. There was absolutely no effort put into giving PC users a well optimized game to play, I could forgive the beta but this is a slap in the face.

Not only this but I kept giving it chance after chance with the two very lackluster patches that they provided in November and December, which is why I have 30 hours at all. DICE claimed that the game performed much better, but when I loaded into it only to be met with the exact same performance issues.

Along with the above mentioned, they have just delayed the season one update to summer, as well as delaying another patch aimed toward fixing some of the hundreds of bugs plaguing the game. To say this game is unfinished is an understatement, I feel like I've been sold the cow instead of the steak, all the while having been shown videos and images of A5 wagyu beef cooked to perfection.

In conclusion I humbly request a refund as this is not the product that I was expecting, I have given it many chances and would like to unplug life support.

RDR2 is my favorite game of all time, the only game I can see beating it is CP2077, rockstar set the bar for story telling to an all-time high, and gave me 400+ hours of fun. If you want a slow paced game that really pays attention to every minute detail, red dead is an amazing choice. However, I would recommend using a controller for exploration, but mouse and keyboard for fighting, laying back while riding around the map is an incredible experience, that the majority of open world games can't compare to.

I reviewed this game last year, it is incredibly different than it used to be, this game is very fun now, it has been optimised, gotten new maps, and has gotten rid of the regional problems. I highly recommend getting PUBG now, it was definitely worth coming back to this game.
