One of the worst gaming experiences I've ever played. A terrible Dead Space game, and just a generally poor video game overall. It feels like a near complete departure from the franchise adding and abandoning game play and story elements that make Dead Space what it is.

In the very beginning of the game, it starts with a cinematic cut scene, something that's usually only reserved for the final scene in both DS 1 & 2. Dead Space when needing to give story will be done either through 3rd person, over the shoulder interactions with other characters either face to face, over video communication, or for more niche lore tidbits, voice and text logs found throughout the game. While these new cut scenes aren't bad, it doesn't feel right as the writing is awkward and the characters are all forgettable and annoying. When you're three main games into a franchise, switching up the formula is done only when necessary. And this is not one of those times.

Another gripe is the weaponry. A big addition to Isaac's arsenal in this game is actual fire arms. I realize that since he's not necessarily as trapped anywhere this time that he has access to actual guns, but it ruins the uniqueness of using engineering tools to tear through necromorphs. Even so, a tiny sub machine gun should not be able to blow the heads and limbs off of completely healthy humans. Which brings me to my next point.

Excluding the prologue, there is an extensive segment at the beginning of the game where you fight Unitology soldiers. This is the first time there are actual gunfights in Dead Space, and it does NOT feel nice to play. Crouching behind cover looks and feels awkward as Isaac's crouch animation doesn't even obscure him behind most covers. The soldiers feel like paper being even weaker than the necromorphs, with bullets blowing their bodies to shreds like I mentioned earlier. This makes the gun play feel a hell of a lot less threatening and practically erasing the need to hide behind cover at all.

The controls feel off, but I can't say what it is for sure. To preface, I played on an Xbox controller as I did with the first two games, so I know what it's supposed to feel like. Holding Left Bumper still makes you sprint, but there is a full half second between initially holding down the bumper and actually starting to run. I'm not sure what this is about as this is the only action that I've found has any latency. This is especially unfortunate as sprinting is probably one of the most important controls in a horror game.

Dead Space 3 cannot be played if you do not have an internet connection. Since I'm playing on PC and not a laptop, this doesn't effect me at all, but still absolutely terrible since it's a single player horror game.

I never got to playing the Co-op, so I don't have anything to say about it, but from what it looks like from other reviews, the servers for the game are down so you can't be connected to another player for it anyways.

Even though all three games are owned and published by EA, this is the only one that is required to be played through the EA app. This is terrible, but it's fine because after this review I will not be returning to Dead Space 3 in the future so I don't really care.

The only thing positive I have to say about the game is the new weapon crafting function. First impressions peaked my interest although I can see it possibly becoming frustrating later as it seems needlessly convoluted. Its a shame that I won't get to experiment with this addition further as putting up with this game is most definitely not worth it.

This game is incredibly disappointing. Especially since the first two games were so good. Dead Space 2 is probably one of my favorite games ever. I knew that this installment got a lot of backlash, but after having beat DS2 for the first time so recently, I set my hopes high for the end of trilogy. That turned out to be a mistake.

Curious buyer, my message to you is to play and thoroughly enjoy the first two games, and if you're really that curious, watch someone else play this one. It's not worth your money.

Dead Space 2 is the greatest horror experience I've ever played. It took everything from Dead Space 1 and added some new stuff to it. The story heavily compliments the original, and ends up being even better. There's no more repetitive boss fights either. There are no loading screens.

Muck is not something you discuss. Its something you experience. As soon as you load into a lobby full of friends silence pierces the discord call. There nothing to break the silence but your elevated heart beat and the monsters that try to tear you open through the night. Muck is the game of the century. Never forget that.
