Early Access Review
After an initially steep learning curve, this game really opens up a lot of possibilities. It's like FTL with a ton more depth. Easily the best game I have played in a long time.

I can't believe this is only $10.

Very satisfying movement and combat. It's like Blood turned up to 11. The interactables make for interesting approaches to fights. It's challenging but never really feels cheap. There is a lot to explore.

Can't recommend this enough.

Everything you want from a Build game. Immediate action and exploding levels. Good weapons and gibs. Cheesy one-liners. Not much to complain about here.

A blood ocean is metal AF

This game delivers exactly what it says. The tension is good. Best played with headphones.

Not sure why people hated the ending. It didn't catch me off guard, but I still liked it.

I've tried and tried and I just can't get into this game. I lose interest by the time I finish Crystal Heart because of the obtuse level design and mediocre weapons and combat. It's just boring.

Abzu is more art than game. It can be completed in one sitting, at about the length of an average movie. Abzu is best experienced on a display with high refresh rate and color accuracy, along with good headphones. It's worth a run through, especially on a system that can showcase the visuals and music.

Quake with modern conveniences and an amazing soundtrack. As close to perfect as a boomer shooter can get.

Early Access Review
I've been following this game since it released in EA. I previously posted a negative review, but figured I would follow up if the game developed to a good state.

A lot of the problems I pointed out last time have been resolved, but unfortunately, most of the remaining issues appear to be here to stay, as they are considering a full release already.

My biggest complaints:

- Crew AI is still not great. They will walk right by a damaged system that is about to expire, heading to one that just got hit. This has been improved on a bit but they are still awful.

- The game is utterly unfair. In the tradition of rogue-like games, the game often feels artificially challenging and cheap. No matter how good you are, missile attacks are completely broken and destroy the balance of the game. The devs seem intent on not fixing this, so the game will remain unfair.

- The repair system is TERRIBLE. One kit; one repair is an awful idea when enemies have easy access to area of effect weapons and your AI crew are incredibly bad at decision making. Not to beat a dead horse, but missile attacks are virtually guaranteed to give you permanent hull damage. All you can often do is juggle a kit on the damaged systems and hope your crew manages to come to help before another missile hits. Spoiler alert: another missile is always going to hit first.

- The game still looks muddy. I'm not sure why. The art style is good, but the game always looks like it's rendered at a quarter the screen resolution.

- Doubloon missions still exist and are still the antithesis of fun.

At this point, it looks like the major flaws that make this game more frustrating than fun are part of the dev's vision for the game, and not something they are going to fix. I cannot recommend this game.

Causes motion sickness. Locked FOV is inexcusable for when this game was released. The devs were made aware of and replied to requests to allow FOV changes and have chosen to ignore them.
