This a fun game that doesn't require much effort and is perfect for what it tries to be. I enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone looking for a casual game to just check in on from time to time.

This game seems infinitely replayable not just because of the premise, but the devs have done a great job making it enjoyable to keep coming back to.

Short version: Broken saves, after many bugs, in a world with a massively dumb money system.

I would love to recommend this game. I cannot. There are so many bugs and issues. My biggest issue is that, for balance, they made ships worthless to have and expensive to buy. You can sell a ship for some good food in my most recent playthrough. Which is broken and unplayable. My ship won't render and is not steerable, which is a reported bug with "fixes" that players have come up with. That said, its not worth fixing because if I fix it or not, my game crashes after only a few minutes now. I guess this playthrough save file is broken and unusable now. Maybe I will change my review in the future if it gets fixed or with mods.

This game is great fun and with the unlocks and many characters and items you can combine you can keep coming back for quick games. One of the best simple and quick games that has come out in recent years.

Story is Single Player, at least the parts that I have completed. You just walk in a party to get there.
---
Second Update: Turns out the Trade Merchant is Rami and I looked her up. She does sell more than 1 item, but I bought them in the first few days before I knew what was going on. Now I just get constant Red Dots to help me know that I have a visiting Merchant with no merchandise. I am going to switch it to a THUMBS UP at this point however. The game has its fair share of annoying mechanics and it feels like Diablo without loot. That being said, I would actually recommend it to other people as I get further into the game.
---
Update to the review: There is quite a bit of multiplayer/party content that is interrupted by the forced single player instances to tell the story, so that part is getting better.

The game is flashy and there are tons of game mechanics to keep track of and get involved in, but they have very little content, unless its all end-game content and I haven't gotten there yet. Either way, the real money store has 2 mounts and 3 pets (with various styles/colors). At Combat level 30, one of my visiting traders to my stronghold sells 1 item and I bought it. I get annoying notifications that I have access to that same trader with nothing to sell me. Only 6 hours left of hourly notifications before they take their nothing and come back tomorrow, to sell you more nothing.

END GAME may make this all irrelevant: The only other gripe that comes to mind is that there aren't really items to pick and choose from. You get new items relatively quickly and if you look at the stats, they are usually just +1 to everything and they are not unique. If you play through it again, you will recognize all the same stuff at the same levels. Once you see that, you realize that there are not really items to choose from, but instead the game uses a slow drip feed. I haven't confirmed it but I feel like each item level overlaps the previous in the name of rarity and so you will find all item rarities that are better than all other item rarities (commons better than epic, then an uncommon better than the common, then an epic... repeat). When you combine the speed with which get new items, you can just check every once in a while for a little blue arrow indicating its better and ignore everything else.

Because it seems there is a lack of imagination in items (so far) and a large lack of content (maybe if people stick around long enough for them to pay to make DLC/Expansions) I will leave it a thumbs down for now and keep working to see what end game is about.

The game being tied into Xbox Live and the sign in process are enough for me to recommend avoiding the trouble. I know they will probably fix the sign in bugs... but having to sign in again for each of my family members make it quite painful.

I will happily change the recommendation if they tie it to your steam account for seamless login.

TLDR: Almost 10 years of broken multiplayer. Search it yourself.

Multiplayer is still a consistent problem. For me it is non-functional. My 7 year old has to wait for me to troubleshoot Terraria. I'd recommend the game otherwise, and even with the multiplayer issues, i'd still recommend it except for one small issue. If you google "stuck on found server" or "terraria mul" you will see that Google's predictive engine knows you aren't searching for information about how fun it is. Google knows that its broken. The top two suggested ways to complete "terraria mul" are "not working" and "lost connection".

So why is this an issue? Because the results cover the better part of a decade and it its still an issue worth writing articles and guides on gaming media sites about. Google will even help you finish your search by adding what year you want to find broken Terraria help from. Need a Terraria guide from 2020? Perhaps you only want the 2019 fixes. Enough people have searched for their current year that the predictive engine knows you may want a specific year... Google will help you sort through all the results. And what can be found in those results? Helpful forum posts of course, guides, articles, and blog posts.

GUIDES and ARTICLES. Not just helpful forum posts like when you have a driver issue. Games Media actually write blog articles and guides about broken Terraria fixes. Think about that. It's so broken you can make money from advertising by hosting articles about it. And just for clarity: there are articles written in 2020.

Almost 1 decade the developers have been working on this game and you can't just click multiplayer and have it work reliably.

I would recommend this game, but I can't stand the hit mechanics and control issues. To be clear: The levels are great. The atmosphere is great. The music is great. Everything is great. EXCEPT actually playing the game. The gameplay IDEA is great, but the execution is just crap. I want to love this game, but it just ruins itself with poor execution.

First issue is the melee. You will swing right through enemies and mines and visually hit stuff all day long. Except they will be misses and your perfectly timed swing is rewarded with damage. Sometimes lots of it. Alternatively you will miss swings and they will die anyway because it turns out you hit them, which is a nice change, but not worth the dying to ♥♥♥♥ that should be dead.

Second issue is enemy melee. They will miss you all day long and you take damage anyway. What you see is not relevant to the game engine. Dodge a bullet? It probably isn't where your screen says it is and will damage or kill you. Step around a projectile? Its wider than you see it... Dead. Not close enough to be hit by an enemies melee? You probably are. Didn't get hit you on your screen? Your health seems to think otherwise. Expert dodge of a swipe? No. Enemy is finished with his swing visual and you dash in for the kill? He hit you. It was that swing before you got there, silly. The one that had nothing to do with you because visually you were not involved. Well the game doesn't agree and so you will die and take loads of damage from things that don't appear to be relevant. Add this to the previous issue where you can't hit things that are clearly, visually being hit by you, and yeah. This game will just frustrate you.

Third issue is the dashing. There will be times when you queue up dashes, and then nothing happens. You just don't. Try to dash away from a boss who is about to melee off your face? Perfectly timed it? Ready to watch your expert escape? The game will just #$%^ you and you will take all the damage and be left standing there. Try to just move around the battlefield? Sometimes there are just places you can't dash through. No obvious reason why, you just can't. You will have to walk instead. Its just a clear spot, in the middle of the battle area. An area of empty floor that you cannot dash through.

Fourth issue is contact with objects. You can and will get caught or stuck on seemingly nothing, small crates, wall debris, whatever is in the level design. As you frantically move around the field of battle, you will get stuck on ♥♥♥♥ everywhere. Trying to escape? Well this box is not shaped the way you see it, and so you have to back up and slide around its invisible edge. Oh and you're dead because of it.

Fifth issue is just controls in general. Something as simple as shooting your gun isn't guaranteed. Some gun clicks, just won't exist. Some button presses? Nope you didn't really press them as far as the game is concerned. It will just ignore the ♥♥♥♥ out of you. Tried to dash away? Well how about no you didn't, so die. Tried to use your shield to block incoming bullets like the tutorial showed you? Yeah, well that button press didn't count, try it agai- oh you're dead. Trying to shoot your gun? Well no bullets are coming out... Oh you have to press shoot again because that button press didn't count.

Just add all these wonderful control and hitbox issues up into a fast-paced murder arena and yeah, that is what you get. An amazingly fun game with great music allowing you to bring death to everything you see. Except that you will just die and be left fuming because the game won't always work like the mechanics are supposed to. Dozens of mechanical errors per fight. Gameplay and hitbox issues. Per Fight. You can get through it all. You can redo that boss fight freely. But when you're dying because you quickly press dash-queue and then press a spot or two to dash to and then release and... nothing happens and so you press it again, take massive damage queue the same two spots and... hey it worked this time, now with 70% less health! The best part is you can watch the controls fail you in slow motion. Yeah... no. I can't recommend this game.

The game is still a decent amount of fun. It's difficulty comes from the poor control of your character and gameplay mechanics, not from enemies, bosses, or even AI. It's a fairly easy game.

Final note: I love getting S+ and the commentary on the ranks you get. I wish this game wasn't so poorly executed. It really is/could be amazing.

This is one of the best single player games in the last 5+ years in my opinion. If you are a Star Wars fan, I highly recommend it. If you are not a Star Wars fan, I still highly recommend it as a stand alone game. This game has some of the best level design I've ever come across. Worth every penny and I hope for a sequel or any additional anything they are willing to make.

This game has some of the best dialogue options that I have ever seen in my decades of gaming. I highly recommend it for its art style, writing, world design, and RPG system.

I have far more to learn and enjoy about this game, but even in just the first few hours, I have had more fun with the characters and dialogue than I have had in 95% of the games in my library.
