TL;DR: Helldivers 2 is a gem in the hands of an apprentice jeweler. Yes, they make mistakes, but they’re eager to learn, and it shows. The game is great - especially now.

Helldivers 2 offers a unique cooperative experience unlike any other, placing players in the boots of commandos dropped directly into enemy territory to complete strategic objectives, often while being overwhelmed by foes.

The game has a sandbox feel, allowing players to freely choose how to approach situations. Whether it’s a direct frontal attack, bombardment from afar, stealth, splitting into two-man teams, or even going solo, every strategy is viable.

There’s also a large selection of weapons, armor, and stratagems to choose from, and the arsenal is constantly growing with mechs being already in the game and other vehicles on the way, adding more depth and options.

The latest patch addressed key community concerns, reworking enemies, rebalancing (buffing) almost all weapons and many stratagems, fixing tons of technical issues, and adding several QoL features.

Now, the game feels less punishing - you’ll still be overwhelmed in specific situations, but with these changes, you’ll be better equipped to tackle challenges without constantly getting ragdolled by missile volleys or losing control.

The game's tone has shifted. Now you feel like a competent force fighting overwhelming enemy numbers, rather than a survival horror victim dropped behind enemy lines.

The game has always been amazing, even with past issues. But previously, it sometimes put you into frustrating or tedious situations. Now, it’s smoother and more enjoyable.

In a world full of stale and uninspired FPS games, Hunt: Showdown is a breeze of fresh air.
The whole game takes itself seriously, the atmosphere is dense enough to cut with a knife and every single element of the game is there to provide you with an immersive and satisfying experience.

You won't find "Funny" skins or enemies turning into skyscrapers the moment you shot at them.
Instead, you will be submerged into the depths of Hunt's impressively well-designed and coherent world.

To keep the "review" short:
Hunt Showdown is a Tactical FPS with PvE elements.
Gameplay-wise the game puts heavy emphasis on balancing stealth and decisive actions.
The sound design in the game is on a level unseen in any other FPS games out there, reliable, precise, and immersive at the same time.
Gunplay is hard at first but very rewarding and often leads to prolonged fights, not unlike those seen in many western movies.

Hunt is certainly not for everybody.
It's hard to learn, unfamiliar, and demands your full attention.
But in return, it provides a unique experience hard to find in other FPS games.

Also a personal tip: Don't play alone as a new player.
The best and fastest way to learn the game is to play with other random people.
Especially in a group of 3.
