Counter-Strike: Condition Zero picks up the classic CS formula, and takes it to a new level with the addition of a singleplayer campaing; Deleted Scenes. It also features another singleplayer mode in which you can play missions in the classic maps from CS. As for the multiplayer itself, well, it's basically the same as the original CS, with two new character models for each faction, and, for the first time, built-in bots.

However, as this game was released shortly before the release of Counter-Strike: Source, it suffered from that: most CS players would stay with the classic CS, and the new players (or those willing to switch) went to Source. Due to this, this game is not as popular as every other CS game.

The simple fact that this 10+ years old game still shows up in the top played games on Steam clearly says something about its quality. I feel like I shouldn't even recommend it, as its name speaks for itself. Easy to pick up, difficult to master, Counter-Strike is one, if not the best multiplayer FPS out there, and it'll probably remain that way for many years to come. The fact that this game rivals it sequels in number of players worldwide only shows how great this game is.

So, do yourself a favour and get it.

Portal 2 is an excellent game, something I've come to expect from Valve. It once agains puts the player in the shoes of Chell, as she wanders through the Aperture Science facilities. The puzzles are similar in quality to those of the original Portal, although some people might say they're easier; I think this is due to the fact that we've become accostumed to "thinking with portals".

The story is excellent, we get to know more about the facility, and we get to explore its deeper areas, learning about its beginning, all the way up to its current state.

So, what can say, besides the fact that I highly recommend it?

Another entry to the Half-Life franchise, Blue Shift once again takes the player to Black Mesa. This game, although rather short, puts you in the shoes of Barney Calhoun, as he struggles to escape from the Black Mesa Research Facility, after his good ol' friend, Gordon Freeman, not only messed up the facility, but also asked him to pay for that beer he owed him.

All joking aside, this game packs the same action as Half-Life and Opposing Force, although in a much shorter package. While some people have complained about its length, I think it's perfect, since making it longer wouldn't add much more to it. Highly recommended.

Half-Life: Opposing Force packs the same non-stop action as the original Half-Life, but this time playing from a new perspective: that of Adrian Shephard, a member of the military sent to "clean up" the Black Mesa Incident.

This game features some new weapons, and it shows more areas of the Black Mesa Research Facility. The story is as good as that of the original Half-Life, and you get to see things from the side of the HECU.

Although a bit shorter than Half-Life, this is a great game, and, in my opinion, it's slightly more challenging than its predecessor. Another highly recommended game.

Few games have been as important to the video game industry as Half-Life. The first game to directly integrate storytelling into its gameplay, it revolutionized the FPS genre. The player never leaves the perspective of Gordon Freeman, a theoretical physicist who becomes an unlikely hero after finding himself in the middle of a disaster.

This game is filled with non-stop action, and it presents no cutscenes, leaving the player in full control of Gordon's actions during the whole game. Its story is one of the best stories ever told in games, and this is where it all started.

It also presents plenty of detailed environments, and you really get the feeling of exploring a top secret research facility; and all the different weapons provide a rewarding experience during fight scenes.

This game is highly recommendable. Not just that, this game MUST be played by every gamer out there. You surely won't regret it.

Plants vs. Zombies is a quite fun tower defense game, where you'll get to defend your house from the zombie horde using nothing more than plants.

The different types of plants provide different strategies, and there are different types of zombies to fight, not to mention the five different scenarios. There's also lots of extra content, in the form of minigames, which add a lot of replayability to this game. And it's also easy to pick up, there's no need to learn complex mechanics or anything.

A highly recommendable game, with the only drawback being that the PC version lacks some features the console version has, the multiplayer being a good example.

I'm updating my review, as it was based on the vanilla version of the game, though I'll leave the original review at the end of this one.

Civilization V is, without a doubt, one of my favourite games of all time, ever since I got it for my birthday back in 2011. While I might not have as many hours as other players, it's a game I have some fond memories of (also, if offline hours counted, I'd probably have a lot more). Anyway, onto the review, in which I'll mention things from the DLCs and expansions (consider this a review of the Complete Edition, rather than of the base game itself).

Civilization V is a turn-based strategy game, of the 4X variety (Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate), in which you play as one of many real world civilizations, some modern, some ancient. You start out by founding your civilization's capital, and from then, it's time for expansion, as you try to build a civilization to stand the test of time. Of course, you'll find many different civilizations on your journey, and it's up to you to decide how you'll approach victory, whether it be through the power of your culture, by diplomacy, by the wonders of technology, or by a show of force. With the expansions, you can even use the power of faith, or even ideology, to influence your friends and enemies as you strive for domination.

With the Complete Edition, you get a game that'll provide hundreds, if not thousands of hours of entertainment. The gameplay itself is pretty good, as you several things to take into account; your empire's happiness, your economy, and even when going for a peaceful route, military strenght should not be ignored, as your enemies might take the chance to strike. Of course, you can always try to gain favours through the use of diplomacy, making deals with the different civilizations you encounter, or even becoming allies with different City-States that don't play for victory.

Each civilization you can play as feels unique in its own way. Beyond "cosmetic" stuff like city names or colours, each civilization has its own leader (based in a historical or mythological figure from said civilization), as well as unique abilities, buildings and units. A fact that might also get overlooked is the soundtrack; each civ gets its own music tracks both for war and peace, and some are, in my humble opinion, excellent.

The game is also highly moddable, with a healthy number of mods on the Steam Workshop. From simple stuff like maps and custom civs, to almost complete conversions that rework the gameplay, adding entirely new mechanics. And even without the Workshop, the game includes several different scenarios, each with its own rules and victory conditions, plus some good modding tools to help you create your own maps and civs.

Well, I think that's all I can say for now. As I mentioned in the opening paragraph, Civ V remains one of my favourite games of all time, and even if sometimes I get a bit tired of it, and abandon it for months, I always find myself coming back, for Just. One. More. Turn.

--------------------------------------

Sid Meier's Civilization V might be one of my top favourite strategy games. It provides a great experience, going from establishing your first city, defending it from barbarians, and exploring new territories, expanding your frontiers.

Not to mention your encounters with different civilizations, which allow for diplomatic treaties, or, if needed, acts of war. And then there's the fact of how will you shape your own; the game allows for different branches of policies, each one with their own benefits.

All in all, this game provides a great turn-based strategy experience. Highly recommended.

Just. One. More. Turn.

Moonbase Alpha provides a fascinating simulation of the regular activities that the first colonizators of the Moon would face. From simple tasks such as exploring the surface of the Moon, to critical duties like repairing the life support systems. You'll feel as if you were there, what's with all the astronauts shouting "JOHN MADDEN", just like they would in real life.

A fun, free racing game with lots of interesting tracks, which allows a good level of customization for your cars. Good enough to kill some time.
