If you love hack and slash character action (DMC or Bayonetta) then you owe it to yourself to play this.
I never make reviews for games, but I felt like this one deserves it.

PROS:
  • Menus are simple and easy to navigate, so getting back into the action is awesome.
  • Being able to go into a Training at any time just by standing still then pressing the 'Select' button
  • Attack Cancelling. Feel amazing to just cancel pretty much anything into anything.
  • Constant action; I never had a moment of confusion jumping back into the story mode after a long break, because of it's linearity.
  • On HARD WORK difficulty the bosses become a serious challenge because Normal felt so easy, a very good challenge for sure.
  • The music is high energy, love it.

CONS:
  • Controls are a bit hard to get used to, with Dashing being on the X button and primary attacking being Y, as well as later in the game it uses the Right Bumper, and I changed it to the Left Bumper but it stayed as 'RB'.
  • The story modes is a bit short, even with the two characters you'd play through the same levels.
  • Sometimes it feels empty or lifeless, almost like it's made from a template.
  • Animations can be very stiff and or clunky.
  • Dialogue voices are only in Japanese. (While not a big complaint, I like to listen than read)

If you're on Steam Deck, run it on Proton Experimental (so it doesn't crash in the shop menu)

Early Access Review
Great concept for a Rougelite - land your ship on a Moon to get stuff to bring back to your corporate overlords, and just don't die.
Randomly generating rooms, which can lead to either you getting money the moment you open the door, or killed.

There's no progression (although there are save files to come back to items and money from that run), so winning or losing shouldn't matter, and I think is a nice pace since a lot of games these days have so much FOMO.

Best played with friends, especially when using microphone in-game.

Incredible sound design!
(Gotta wear headphones.)

Only issues are:
- Can't re-bind key
- Scroll wheel is weirdly inverted (up being right/down being left)
- Lack of support for other resolutions
- No graphics settings? Although I feel like this shouldn't matter as it isn't that intense.

For the dev reading reviews:
Can you make it so I can emote while crouching? Thanks.

A team based version of Frozen Synapase's gameplay + MOBA-style classes and abilites.

Simple, yet can overly complex if given enough time to see that well-time execution and placement matters a whole lot.

Thankfully there is a F2P mode that allows everyone to try it before maybe spending a few bucks for the whole thing.
There is no way to get more characters [freelancers] or play customs, ranked, or spend in-game money directly with FreeMode, you have to purchase the 29.99 All Freelancers Edition or the 59.99 one for that.

Other than that, give it a try! It's tons of fun. :)

PERSONAL FACTS : First off, I want to state that I am a bit biased when it comes to anything FEZ at this point.
> I did not buy this game originally; a very awesome friend gifted it to me. I had no intent on playing it because I was intrested for the game alone, although when he asked I was very motivated to want to try it because of Indie Game; the Movie. --- I gave it a shot and only played an hour after I got it. So first impressions were as expected from most people.
On the side of buying FEZ. After a few years go by, I was at a point where I didn't want to play any game anymore. I looked at my Steam game list like anyone would and wanted to play FEZ again for some reason, so I did, and after finally enjoying it I bought the Vita version! --- weirdly enough I beat a lot of games on the Vita first that I have doubles of.
> I bought my very first T-shirt for a game! ---> http://www.redbubble.com/people/universalfreak/works/10503774-fez-happy-gomez-tiles?p=t-shirt&style=mens&body_color=asphalt&print_location=front
Which is sad to me because I've played the Smash Bros. series all my life and never had a T-shirt for that!
> I have everything FEZ'd, electronic-wise; my wallpapers to my profile pictures.
> For the first time of my 20 years of living, I've played and beat a game three times. (with a bit of help mind you. Some puzzles took months to beat, and I mean with many people using brute force to beat them. Which you eventually have to look up if you are completely stuck)
Here are my achievements for this game. I personally don't care at all about achievements in games but here they are.

QUICK FACT - The game time on here says I played 3.5 hours... That doesn't seem very long, considering that I've been playing for months.
The reason for that is that I was mainly playing the PSVita version and when I beat the Vita version I recently came back just to finish it on the PC
FOLLOW UP WITH OPINION - I feel that the PSVita version is probably the best way to play FEZ. I'm not sure why, maybe it's because I grew up with platforming adventures like Kirby on my Gameboy Adavance and bigger games on my N64, which is not to say FEZ isn't a big game but not something you play at the same concept of such a game. It almost feels like it was meant for it.

OPINIONS :
So any sort of ''criticism'' towards the game kind of makes me sad and my heart becomes heavy.
Although, I may be funny in a way that it's never towards the game itself for the most part, the only criticism that I ever see is that it looks boring and or 'another indie platformer' which is totally from the sort.
If not about the game, it's about Phil Fish connection to the game. The issue I keep reading/hearing is that it comes back to - ''I don't want to/won't play FEZ because he is a A-hole, and or, he is a jerk and I will never give him my money.'' which makes me sad because if that is the case they might never experience such a great game just by being stubborn over nothing.
I know Phil can be a jerk sometimes, but that didn't stop me from enjoying a game that probably made me the most happy, at my most sad point in my life.

((About Phil))
To the people who keep saying that Phil is a ''D!CK'' ----> Understand this, if you can:
Everyone is a balloon.
What happens when you fill that balloon up?
It explodes.
Phil couldn't take it (neither could I) and just because he types like a jerk, I don't feel he means it the way people read it, because from what I heard from people who actually know him is that Phil is a genuinely nice guy in person, because the Internet a barrier to many emotions (like sarcasm) and sets a lot of problems.
Example: "PC is for spreadsheets" - is what he said about FEZ ever coming to PC. But hey here we are, and FEZ is not a spreadsheet...
Which irritates me when people set up FEZ for faliure because of words one person says.
The dude is treated like he is super famous and honestly makes me mad knowing people take offense when he says something, unlike everyone else on the Internet: get over yourselves.
When people take him out of context, as well... But that's for another day. :/
((Now back to the game))

QUICK FACT - I've only come across 4 glitches.
The glitches didn't ruin the experience too much. They were pretty minor.
Two were hard locks making me have to reset the game, while the other were platforming issues where the platforms would not work properly and I would fall through.
The other one is/was weird, as it was a music/sound situation. But it seems to happen in one area ( The Telescope Room )
I feel that the game locking up was my fault as I was Alt+Tab'ing a lot in between some parts of the transistions ~ ironic, that they were not in the Glitch Room.
So that's my opinion...

FACTS : It's not much of a platformer, even though it may seem like one.
What I mean by this, is that there are no sections where platforming skills are necessarily needed to beat a section of the game, unlike Super Meat Boy.
Don't take it as FEZ doesn't have platforming, it's just not the focusing point of the game.
The puzzles/exploration are the primary focus of the game, and with that said, there are in fact levels with platforms require some 'skill' to get through a section or two.

The game's exploration is huge factor, and at one point Phil almost didn't want to have a map; he wanted to have players draw out their own maps to feel even more like an adventurer.
Sometimes I take it for granted when traversing through the game.

Lastly, the one thing that you may have to do eventually is take notes.
FEZ makes it clear by it's designed, which is a cry out for classic gaming where 'word of mouth' was the only way to find secrets. There was no Internet to just look up and easily beat the game for you.
The puzzles are not something you can breeze through quickly by saying a code over and over out loud so you don't forget, or remembering it in your head for later to complete them --- you will have to take notes at some point or another --- this is something that I feel that made the game for me and many other who enjoyed playing FEZ.

Summary
If the word ''challenging puzzles'' isn't your thing, then this game might not be for you.
Phil Fish should never be the reason not to try or buy this game.

((These are links below. Make sure to click on them if they are for you.))
For people who don't understand FEZ and think it's ''another indie title/platformer'' or boring/bland.

For the people who might never play FEZ, or never want to because Phil Fish... WARNING: Has spoilers.

In my opinion, this is the best thing to happen to gaming in a long time, and it's a shame we will never get a FEZ II (Unless he is still working on it in secret.. I hope he is...)
It is loss for the medium that such a great game won't get at least a sequel.

I highly recommend this game to anyone who just wants shear fun! It may look odd on the outside, but in the inside; it is really exciting to explore.
