Got the game for free in a giveaway. Elex has a pretty good story, and it's a shame that it's mechanically so bad. The game expects you to fight ♥♥♥♥ that one shots you, and you do a miserable amount of damage unless you manage to knock whatever it is you're fighting onto it's ass. The dodging is jank, the movement is jank, and the graphics are jank. Within a couple hours of playing, I had already come to the conclusion the game was 10 years old, but it isn't. If you enjoy an RPG where you don't kill anything and run past all the enemies because they're not worth killing, and they will likely one shot you, this is the game for you. Killing stuff gives you 10-35 XP, and for context, side quests are 100-500 xp, yet every scrap with a small forest creature feels like the next miniboss. I spent most of my time running errands for the berserkers (one of the factions), and 10 hours later I have nothing to show for it aside from a few levels that don't mean anything because you still get one shot by everything despite finally getting armour. And, after you level enough to get yourself a weapon, you still do pixels of damage despite finally having more than a rusty axe.

This game truly feels like an underbudgetted game from ~2010, and I'm surprised the reviews aren't more mixed. I guess our standards have really been dropped this much over the years. 55 CAD, and I've gotten more polished games for half as much, I definitely wouldn't buy the game full price if you can avoid it.

And yet I want to go back, because the story is so intriguing.

Oh, and I forgot to mention the fact the game has a bug where you'll crash to desktop trying to load your save if you have Geforce Experience. To remedy this, you have to close anything to do with Nvidia before launching the game, ending the tasks in task manager and everything. This was strange, considering I started playing the game without any knowledge of this until I came back for session 2, to load my save and play again.
