My experience with this game was... strange.

I start the game, sit through the opening cut scene, and realize that I want to change some settings. So I open the menu and change them, just to realize that there is no "Continue" button.

So I sit through the cut scene again, and try to skip it. However, you cant. Somehow that caused the game to softlock (that's probably my bad). So I start the game again, sit through the cut scene a third time, and try to play. I click on the icon on the top left, its a map. Ok. I click on the icon on the top right, I'm in the main menu again. With no continue button.

This was the point, where I rage quit and did something else for a few hours.

Then I came back, and startet the game again. Sat through the intro for a fourth time, and startet exploring the map.
I met Observer, Sigrah and Builder and talked to them. Then I walked to every map node and was unable to do anything at any of them. So I walked back to the first cross road. Then the game cuts to black and the credits roll.

I think, this game needs a lot more testing at it's current state. Maybe I just had a lot of bad luck.

The game follows the general format of a puzzle game. Introduce an easy mechanic, build on it, make it harder over time. Puzzle games based on shapes and colors are something I really enjoy.

However, this game is not thought through. Even though there is a logic to the puzzles, in nearly every level after the first four you reach a point where the clues are not helping you anymore and you need to guess. I really tried to come up with solutions where you don't have to guess, but haven't managed in nearly all cases.

If I have to guess in a puzzle game, I feel like I failed. Either that, or it is a bad puzzle.

Beautiful little puzzle platformer.

I still don't really understand the ending, even though I completed it to 100%, but it was fun and beautiful anyway.

Unterhaltsames kleines Point-and-Click-Adventure.

Ok, I'm a few hours further into the game then I was, when I first wrote a review (the original is at the end of this edit).
I still love this game, I love the artstyle, the soundtrack is beautifull and I really like the storytelling. Sadly there are a lot of bugs, that really need to be fixed.

Just today, I went out of bounds, found invisible walls, had problems when using my controller on the character-select screen in online-mode, had events that didn't trigger, it's really sad to see. This game has so much potential and is so much fun to play. The bugs just really make it hard to love the game, even though I want to.

I still recomend the game, but I hope the bugs will be fixed in future updates.

====================== Original Review ======================

I just played the first round of this game, and I'm completly hooked.
The dynamic storytelling, the beautifull soundtrack, the artstyle, everything just fits perfectly together.
I can't wait to play the next round but I just had to write this review, something I dont do very often, to tell you, yes exactly you, who's thinking about buying this game: Do it, it's worth every Dollar.

I just finished the first trial. It was more of a tutorial but I think it was enough to give a statement about this game.

First of all there is the artstyle. I have to say that I'm a big fan of it. The drawn characters and backgrounds give this game a unique feeling and make it really good looking. The monochrome colorscheme can eventually get a little bit irritating for the eyes but that can also come from being a little bit tired.

The music of the game is fantastic. It doesn't distract from the game, while at the same time underlining the setting.

The game is full of puns and the dialoges are great. I really like to talk to the Characters and how you have the possibility to follow your own moral compas through different decisions.

Something that shines throug is the fact, that this game is based on the Pheonix Wright games. The court system is a little bit different because there is a Jury to convince but in general there are a lot of similarities. (Like the "Not Guilty"-Message over the screen to call out one example of many). I didn't have a problem with that because it doesn't feel like a copy of those games, just like there's a of inspiration from those games that has mixed into this game.

After an hour of playtime I have to say that I love the game and the setting and I'm really looking forward to playing the rest of it tomorrow.

Early Access Review
I was one of those people who has seen this game on indiegogo, but why did I do that? I have never done it before and am not somebody who gives money away without thinking much about it.
The answere is simple: the demo. I played the demo of this game and it had more content than other games ever will have. It was funny, the mechanics where great, the music and graphics are absolutly beautiful and you can feel that they where made with a lot of love.

This game may look like a RPG-Maker title but that's just because of the graphics, I mean if you put Golden Sun on Steam people would think it is made in the RPG-Maker. This game is written in a JavaScript Engine, it runs smoothly, has an interesting real time fighting system and in this stage of the game you can already see it's potential. I can just say: support this awesome game even when it is an early access title,

Oh and I defenitly spent more time with the game than just the 2 hours of the steam version because the demo obviously isn't countet to it. And let me say it that way: I am not finished with the exploration part of the demo.
