i will preface this review by saying that, before the game's latest huge update, i was already a fan. i loved the world, the lore, the gameplay, everything about it. the thing is, it was really difficult, at least for me. i would focus on too much of the wrong things and i'd end up failing during the boss fights because i was far, far behind in terms of progress. i felt stressed because of the time constraints, and a little disappointed because i didn't have the in-game time to do what i wanted properly, like ranking up my relationships with the other characters, or having enough time to find new ingredients or send adventurers on quests. i was expecting something more casual, but i was met with a more challenging puzzle game, and it stressed me out. HOWEVER: this was on me- i went into the game the wrong way. i still gave it about a 4/5 in my head.

however, with the latest update, i'd say a more casual player like myself can finally enjoy this game to the fullest without feeling stressed. they added a "cozy" mode- travelling to visit other characters no longer takes up in-game time. potions are easier to brew, and fostering relationships with other characters was much more doable and maintainable (hanging out with them still passes the time, but now there's an option to date as many as you want to now as opposed to being restricted to one only). there's still the puzzle aspect of brewing potions, while a lot less tough, is still just as rewarding as before on the normal mode. this update allowed me to drink in the game like i initially wanted to. skill issue? definitely. but this got me back into things, and i think it was a great decision. i can finally date and learn more about the other characters, sell the way i want to- i love it.

not only that, but they added voice acting to the game, and it really adds another layer of immersion. before, there wasn't any, and while a bit jarring at first, i got used to that quickly. but adding voice lines was a great decision, and a very welcome one at that! it feels right at home, and the voices are just what i thought they would be in my head. might not be a big thing for you, but for me it is

all in all, this game is now for both people who want a challenge, or people who want a casual experience with all the frills this game has to offer. not to say this game was bad before- i loved it. it just wasn't for me with the difficulty. but now, i think this game has something for everyone, and is much more accessible to different play styles. now, it's a 5/5 for me, and i think the fact my playtime more than tripled within the past 2 days speaks to that.
