Very basic and easy to understand mechanics with a complex and detailed theory around the game, immeasurable skill ceiling and clear, recognisable progression system. You can tell when you start to get good at the game, or when your understanding of the game becomes better the more you play it.

Only downside is that if you stop playing the game for even a day, you feel like you've deteriorated back a few levels and need to spend at least a few hours to get back into the swing of things. If you're a fan of FPS shooters, this game is enough to teach you the transferable mechanical skills to schwing meat in any of them
