This game feels like a love story. I was extremely excited for 16 when it was first announced. I haven't had such excitement for a game since KH3 release, so much so that I bought a PS5 just for FFXVI. I have zero regrets and I will happily spend money again to own it on my PC. FFX was my #1 Final Fantasy game for years but now 16 holds that place for me. I fell in love with the story, world, characters and I can never get over the amazing soundtrack provided by Soken.

Here are my thoughts with the game playing this prior on PS5.

The story is overall fantastic and grand. This game is cutscene heavy, so if that is something that bothers you, you might not enjoy this. The story itself is very engaging but I would say there is some pacing issues. Not enough to taint the experience in my opinion. The cast and voice acting are a 10/10 only wishing on some more spotlight time for a few characters. The side quests can be fun and offer great world building. But I would say they can lack a bit in gameplay engagement. A good comparison would be like doing quests in ff14. Essentially a "go to this spot, do a thing, go back to quest giver" I still very much enjoyed most of them.

The gameplay itself is so fun. You are meant to experiment with your eikons and abilites, coming up with combos that work for you. It's very satisfying once you get it down. I had the most fun when timing the titan blocks and shiva dodge. The eikon battles can honestly be described as epic. With the most stunning visuals and jaw dropping events. Most of what I wished for is for regular battles to have more variety with enemies and for more difficult enemies from the get go instead of getting only getting the option in new game+.

The music, god the music. I'm a huge fan of ff14 so knowing Soken would work on the ost had me more than excited and I loved every single track in this game. Had it on repeat for practically a year since release, and now that the DLC ost is officially out, I will expect to have that on repeat for a good while.

There is a lot of love put into this game and I can't wait to watch my friends play it and go through everything again in my own playthrough on my own time.
