Early Access Review
I originally was going to post this review several days ago but then I saw the new update on 12/21/2022 and decided to check it out. A lot of the game breaking complaints I had were fixed.

Things I Like

✔ Its free to play! The battle pass has 16 free tiers. You can earn cosmetics and perks without buying any in game currency.

✔ Fast level ups! As long as you're doing the puzzles and going for saves as survivor or getting downs and kills as monster, you'll earn a lot of XP and tickets for your perks. (Only 15 XP points to level up) For Survivors: Puzzle Solved - 20 Tickets, Teammate Rescued - 30 Tickets, Toy Deposited - 5 Tickets. For Monsters: Survivor Downed - 10 Tickets, Survivor Deposited - 20 Tickets.

✔ With tickets you can buy perks (LVL 1 - 600 tickets, LVL 2 - 1200 tickets, LVL 3 - 2,400 tickets). As Survivor you're able to use 3 perks while Monster can use only 1 sabotage (which makes sense since this is a stronger ability that affects every survivor). Each perk has levels 1-3, level 3 will have the most duration and last longer.

✔ Text chat to communicate with your team, you cannot talk to the Monster.

✔ If a Monster that isn't the host quits during the match, a randomly chosen Survivor player will be asked if they want to play as the monster instead. Unless if the host leaves (Monster or Survivor) then the match will end and the lobby will close.

✔ Maps alternate between each match so you'll never be playing the same map over and over. (Unless you join a new lobby, the host will choose 1 of the 2 maps and it'll alternate from there)

✔ After some time of being the last Survivor alive, the puzzle and "pull pipe" phase will be ignored and go straight to the "escape" sequence giving the last Survivor a chance to escape through the train.

✔ If you fall off the map as Survivor or Monster, you'll be respawned somewhere near the location you fell. If you accidentally fall outside of the train as its moving, you'll also be respawned to another location. If everyone was on the train when you had fallen off, the game will end and it'll be counted as you surviving regardless.

Things I Don't Like

✘ The ambiance is lacking... Which is surprising because of how well the OST was in Poppy Playtime. The only sound design in the game is the menu music, lobby music, the "escape" music and sound effects when doing puzzles, footsteps, etc (Which is all really good). The Monsters have different sound effects depending on which skin you're using, its also a nice touch. Other than that, gameplay wise its going to be dead silent. When in a chase its only the Survivors and the Monsters footsteps, there's no terror radius or indication of a chase happening. Its really anticlimactic and for a horror game there's no real sense of danger. Adding chase music and overall ambiance would heighten the fear factor and make the gameplay more intense.

✘ The Monsters are busted... they need nerfs badly. (This is my opinion based on the few matches I've played as each Monster multiple times and barely using sabotages). Mommy Long Legs has a spider web ability that can be spammed to slow the player (Up to 10-12 times or so), it guarantees they're not escaping and resulting in a down. The ability also recharges semi fast. She needs less web charges and it shouldn't be spammable, maybe 3-5 charges and slower spray to give a Survivor the chance of creating distance. Boxy Boo's hook ability combined with her infinite basic attack results in an instant down. Her hook has a decent cooldown. Her hook ability should be a slightly longer cooldown and her basic attack shouldn't be infinite. Huggy Wuggy is the most "balanced" out of the 3 Monsters. Huggy's only mobility is his charge which is an instant down if he catches up to the Survivor during the charge or he's already on top of them. Other than that Huggy can't take flight which makes the other 2 Monsters very mobile in comparison (Boxy Boo and Mommy Long Legs can move much farther distance with no cooldowns and their utility to hook/slow makes them overall better.) I'm assuming the Monsters were made to be new player friendly but in the wrong hands its too strong.

✘ Monsters camping the revive stations. If someone saves in front of the Monster that's the teammates fault for reviving in the Monsters face, but that's also out of the rescued Survivors control. The Survivor being rescued should have a short period of invincibility so they can't be attacked and instantly downed again. This should give a moment for the Survivors to create distance and or the Monster to punish the rescuer instead if they wish.

✘ All fixed: Not being able to revive teammates from the whack a mole minigame. Text chat working one game and not working the next. Game locks up for several seconds when trying to chat. Being sent to the main menu constantly after trying to search for a game or host a lobby.

Bugs

Game breaking: As Boxy Boo if you box bounce in the Toy Factory map while trying to jump over a railing near a doorway, there's a chance you no clip in between the railing and the doorway.

Bugs that aren't game breaking: Since the new update (12/21/2022) there's suddenly no menu music. The same cosmetic appearing multiple times in the customization menu on Survivor. Monster skins unequiping on game restart. As Monster if all the survivors leave the game, there's a chance the game won't end and you have to wait the timer out. I was the host playing Monster, half of the players were down and the others were alive.

Overall

There's a lot of potential and room for improvement. Monsters need to be tweaked and more needs to be added to the sound design. I think they could of waited and polished the game a bit more before making it open to the public in early access. The devs have been quick on patches so I have faith they can pull through. I've been enjoying the game enough to continue playing even with the bugs and issues.

Great DLC, it took a few minutes to all go into my account. The only thing I still haven't received is the "1000 Silver Crowns for the cosmetic store", I'm still sitting at the amount I had before.

Early Access Review
Someone said this in the VHS discord and I wanted to share, "I love how the negative reviews for VHS don't actually say anything about the game it's just people complaining that other people are better than them" and they aren't wrong. I'm convinced the users complaining are really bad and haven't taken the time to learn how to properly play or haven't realized they're not playing DBD and to try and see VHS as its own game with different mechanics. Personally I would say most of the negative comments are invalid.

VHS is a complicated game and its difficult for new players, you can't hop in and expect to destroy all the teens or have a coordinated team of teens to destroy the monster. It takes time, knowledge, understanding how to play around your team/play around the teens and being self aware of your surroundings. Once you get the hang of playing its SO much fun! Theres a bunch of different strategies to do and different playstyles to use to your advantage. Also a bonus its LGBTQ+ friendly! Definitely give this game a shot, but do me a favor... if you have a garbage DBD mindset going into VHS, don't play it.

EDIT: This game isn't cryptomining, stop believing everything you see and taking the word of a single review that did no research or even try to fix the issue and complained. The game doesn't have a FPS limit so it uses all your GPU's resources, on a nvidia card you can limit the frames to your monitors refresh rate and it'll run normally. Theres a guide in the community tab on how to do this!

For a free asymmetrical game, Spirit Detective is cursed and really fun at the same time. While theres a lot of clunkyness with jumping over and under obstacles and crouching through holes, the game is much more worth it in the end, it'll be even better if these things are fixed over time since its maybe one of the biggest issues in the game (Other than balancing). First of all you play as hot men and women that are brutally murdered (or not) by hot men and women ghosts, you have items to use in the game that can help you fight for your existence or wear duck shoes and squeeze the chicken in the ghosts face as they wish for your ultimate destruction. Lastly you can customize your character to be even hotter, THICC, or the most cursed thing you've ever seen in your lifetime. Theres been so many hilarious moments and I seriously haven't laughed so hard in a long time. One thing I do wish to see changed or tweaked is how some of the killers are really busted, theres not much of a counter or its really difficult to avoid their abilities/take them down and some of it is not fun to deal with. These types of games always have balancing issues so I'm not surprised and I have some critiques balancing wise but overall I've been enjoying playing. For a game thats in early access I think this is a great start for this game and I can't wait to see it improve!

Really fun and I enjoyed it a lot! The only thing I struggled with was being able to tell when the killer was on the way or not so I took guesses and would hide or be caught out too late. I think the idea of hiding with props is great and taunting with sounds is funny! Overall I recommend!

Very fun game with very fun mechanics but also can easily be abused by griefers. Too many incels thats hear a woman talking and they kill you or vote you out immediately, people in teams of 2 or 3 going around choking the whole lobby out because its funny to them. Mind you this was a small issue on PC but its become more of an issue because the console version is free. I recommend only playing in a group with friends.

3/4/2022: I got told I'm a fat ♥♥♥♥, I should kill myself, stay in the kitchen, they hope I lose my rights as a woman, calling me the n word hard r, all because I opened my mouth and said hi at the start of the game. Mind you this was a group of men and these were 2 different lobbies back to back. Sadly majority of this behavior is coming from console players.

All I can say is THIS GAME BROUGHT ME FULL DESPAIR! But I enjoyed every minute of it.

The real despair was Celeste dying, I stared at my menu for 40 minutes crying because I couldn't accuse my babygurl. THAT is when I knew what true despair was.

I'm a simp for Celeste, Kyoko and Toko. My wives.

Vtube Studio is amazing, one of my favorite softwares! I originally used Facerig for a bit and while it was able to track me, it had weird eye tracking issues and it would take up a lot of CPU usage from the model so it would be laggy on OBS and I would have to lower the model quality so it would have higher FPS but the quality was dropped dramatically. On Vtube Studio I havent run into any of those issues! On some games depending on the optimization, your model may lag very slightly but other than that it isn't a big problem!

I use Vtube Studio on my PC and iPhone (I use my iPhone for face tracking) and the tracking is the best thing I've seen. The eye tracking is very accurate and the movements are very smooth, the interface is VERY easy to use and it comes with its own transparent background mode for streaming. I bought the Pro version on iPhone for $14.99 to be able to stream for an unlimited amount of time (You can only stream to PC for 5 minutes before it shuts off with the free version) as well as other small features that comes with it, but that was the biggest one! If you're using webcam on PC, you won't have to buy the pro version unless you want the watermark to be removed which there are easy workarounds!

You can either stream on a wireless connection from your IP server or you can use a lightning cable from your phone to your PC to stream as well! Also there is a streamer mode built into the app! When you're streaming, the phone brightness will dim and your model will be hidden on your phone so it won't overheat! Its a really fantastic feature!

Even if you're not using an iPhone, I've seen webcams working really well too, but for the best results use an iPhone! (Android phones can work but iPhones have the best facial recognition). Seriously if you need a software with amazing tracking and a simple to use interface then Vtube Studio is the way to go! :P

Genuinely one of my favorite games! I really do love the story, I understand the meaning behind all of it and to me its really deep. A lot of players might not understand the point of the game just because its that intricate and complex. Its not as predictable and easy to understand like Man of Medan was, although both of them are very fun to play! The soundtrack is also amazing! Highly recommend it! :)
