The game is definitely not the same as many people remember it. The game has evolved to be more up to date as compared to other MMO's out there while keeping it's charm. I've had many friends and memories on this game and for that i thank Jagex.

There is a bit of everything for everyone. lets start with skills.

Skills
There is a lot of skills to choose from and they are divided into 4 categories.
  • Artisan - Cooking, Construction, Crafting, Firemaking, Fletching, Herblore, Runecrafting, and Smithing.
  • Gatherer - Archaeology, Divination, Farming, Fishing, Hunter, Mining and Woodcutting.
  • Combat - Attack, Constitution, Defence, Magic, Prayer, Ranged, Strength and Summoning.
  • Support - Agility, Dungeoneering, Slayer and Thieving.

Typically most skills play nice with each other with some of them (Invention) requiring other skills to even start training.

Skills under the gathering category are usually very laid back skills which you can AFK (pay minimal attention to). these skills are helpful for training other skills, as they give the raw materials needed to train said skills.

Artisan skills are mostly skills that vary between intensity (some AFK, some requiring much attention) and typically make use of resources from gatherer skills.

Support skills are skills that are mostly independent of other skills with the exception of slayer. you can train these skills simultaneously as other skills.

And finally the fun skills - Combat. You will want to train these if you to be able to defeat higher level monsters and upgrade your gear. as well as taking on PVM.

Combat
The combat system is based on an ability tick system. what this means is that combat depends heavily on rotations you come up with using the abilities available to you, and while this does sound overly complicated on paper, it's something that simply takes practice. There is other combat modes worth mentioning such as revolution which auto rotates between your set up ability bar, and legacy which is meant to mimic the combat system of old.

Of course with combat comes PVM, and the PVM scene in runescape varies between easy to very hard. The game is lenient on people who prefer to fight alone. however the highest end bosses will require teams and quite a lot of knowledge of the combat system to take them on. Some bosses can easily be taken down using revolution or legacy combat, while the harder bosses will require you to have more input using the full manual mode.

Social
Runescape is a very social game, with a live chat system. you can chat freely in game to people near you, or in a friends chat or clan chat. Runescape encourages communication between players so you can trade or request skill assistance, and while there is a Global Trade System in the form of the Grand Exchange, some prices are better when trading with other players. Of course you'll want to chat to people so you can make friends to talk and boss with!

Achievements
This is arguably the end game for many. People go for a max cape (max 99 all skills) or a completionist cape (max 120's and 99's with other achievements); And while there is many more similar achievements like a master quest cape. this is mostly what keeps maxed out players with something to strive for. The game is heavily updated and changing so there will always be something new to look forward to.

Lore
Most lore is told in the form of quests, and boy does Runescape have a lot of them. many of them have their own storylines and branch off to other stories and sometimes intersect. it truly is one of the more unique aspects of Runescape, and for those that enjoy adventuring and completing quests, you will enjoy this aspect of the game.

Pvp
The community for this is almost non-existant, and sadly if you want a more pvp centric gameplay, RS3 will almost definitely not be it. however that doesn't mean it isn't possible to enjoy. places like clan wars or castle wars are good places to find safe pvp activity outside of the wilderness; The wilderness being a dangerous area where you can loose your items, so don't take nothing you aren't willing to risk.

Microtransactions
Yes they are here, and yes their presence is heavy. almost every aspect of the game has some sort of MTX attached to it. However it is mostly there for those who want it, as it is mostly unnecessary and avoidable. Yes it is true the MTX is very in your face and can definitely be off putting, but this is something many MMO players should be used to. There is an optional gameplay mode called ironman which will completely spare you from 90% of MTX content. the other 10% being purely cosmetic and is the recommended mode from many players.

Conclusion
The game for me is a solid 8/10 as it stands right now. a lot of things can be improved, but the game is still very enjoyable and you can still relax and play the way you want. Yes it has a lot of issues but this is a massive game receiving constant updates. and i've no plans to leave it any time soon!

Over 1k hours in DOOM 2016 (most of which was spent on MP), i have come to the conclusion that DOOM Eternal is in many ways better to it's predecessor.

The Campaign

It's amazing and was worth the collector's edition purchase just for that alone; the gameplay is just a whole other level compared to 2016, it's just so polished and fun, Hugo's combat puzzle just works and all the pieces come together to form one big orchestra of destruction that becomes insanely addicting to play through.

I do enjoy the lore that was expanded upon the DOOM universe, as well as the history of the slayer. however i do wish they would have done it a bit differently, but i'm happy with what we got in that regard, though i feel this game leaves many more questions than answers which will hopefully be answered with future DLC.

I did not find anything frustrating in mechanics nor enemies. though my one minor gripe is that the slayer's fist... Fists so strong they can shove a demons head into their neck crevice does absolutely no damage unless it's a blood punch. 2016's melee damage was strong enough to make fodder demons stagger into a glory kill state with one punch. what happened here?

Battlemode

Is it what i had hoped for? No. However... it's a good mode and is insanely fun at the high levels of gameplay, although at the moment these levels are only possible through private lobbies, or a lucky public matchup. this game needs some serious ranked mode {which is coming soon!)

In my honest opinion it does not have the potential longevity that 2016 had. DOOM 2016's MP is still alive even right now. i do feel that Eternal needs at least a traditional deathmatch mode, because as it stands right now, DOOM Eternal does not have the "meat" or replayability that 2016 offered with it's triad of game modes.

Conclusion

A worthy successor to an amazing game. and giant props to Id Software for keeping that retro feeling alive in the modern age. The game isn't for everyone and casual players may feel a bit off with Eternal's demanding combat and platforming. but to us hardcore fans this is definitely a step forward in the franchise and i'm personally excited to see what comes next.
9/10.
