Great game for hours of fun. Graphics are quite barebone, but the replay value and gameplay will keep you coming back to this gem of a game. It starts up quite easy but it gets complex really fast and you have to plan your production line and base accordingly!

Best TW to date along with Shogun 2. This version has many elements from it's predecessors. There are also some new things from other series like 'The Romance of the Three Kingdoms games' this game borrows heavily from like the hero friendships and rivalries.

The work that went into this game so far seems staggering. The warfare is the same as usual like in the older games, maybe even a bit simplified, but for me the game never was all about the battlefield simulation, but more about the Empire Management and that is what this iteration of the Total War saga does best. In previous games a lot more work went into the battlefield part and the game suffered for it because the management got more shallow over the years. With the addition of things learned from the Warhammer TW's they managed to get a nice mix between battlefield and management.

Besides, this is your chance to learn something about some magnificent Chinese history. Who wouldn't like to learn something that interesting?

Interesting concept, but rough around the edges. Definitely something for more mature and hardcore strategy games enthousiasts! But at the current moment it's plagued by bugs and frustrating UI. Some quality of life changes would help this game immensely. For example it would be nice to see which clans stay at home and which ones need to work outside with a little icon. I hope Jon is prepared to put some more TLC into the game, because at the moment of writing it sorely needs it. Bug and crash patching takes priority though as i've certainly had a few! But other than that, this is a welcome and fresh new addition to the strategy genre! A hopeful thumbs up for now.

Good for WW2 buffs and Grand Strategy fans! Mods are recommended though.

Liked Valkyria Chronicles 1? You'll like Valkyria Chronicles 4. It's the upgraded and slightly more advanced version with a whole new story to enjoy.

An absolute gem of a game. Nothing fancy, but just plain old valkyria chronicles turnbased fun in an anime jacket.

Recommended!!

For all those negative reviews saying this is bareboned and to expensive:

NEWS FLASH: this game is in early access! The game is not ready and alot of features, units, buildings and game modes are going to be introduced in the future. The devs have acknowledged this and are adding even more since the influx of money has been so awesome as of late.

----

The game is even fine as is now, you can play for many hours doing the same and challenge yourself.
You will lose many times before you win! This is a tough game even for more seasoned RTS vets ( like myself ).
If you like it depends on your preferences, but this is without a doubt a fine game!

A buggy, slightly irritating mess of a wonderful game!

Ever wanted to be Jack Bauer, James Bond or Ethan Hunt? Well, this game let's you do that.. sorta.

Genre: Conspiracy-Spy-Shooter without the over-the-top Metal Gear nonsense attached

A true cRPG gem. Need I say more? Maybe later. For now, just trust me. This game is darn good if you like old-school (rpg) games. Storytelling, game mechanics, characters, voice acting, it's all good.

Great 4X, looks and feels good and plays flawless. I won't give a 10/10 as that would mean this game is the best it can be, which it isn't and no game ever will ( why make other ones then? people give 10's way to easily. And don't get me started on scoring systems as they are flawed by nature ).

Pros:
- Sleek modern design
- Creative races and gameplay systems, no cookiecutters
- Immersive universe and visuals
- Pretty combat video-reels
- Nice quality of life improvements like skipping visuals and automation
- Replayability!
- Quest & race story system

Cons:
- Sleek design can also be considered 'cold' and a bit lifeless
- Stellaris' music is better ;)
- Lack of substantial dedicated campaigns ( personal thing here, i want sweeping cinematic campaigns with cutscenes and all. ) But since hardly any free 4X or Civ game doesn't have any campaigns it's not a really big con.
- Lack of real tactical combat and planetary invasion/bombardment, it's more of a simulated AI battle you can nudge by applying certain 'cards' that influence the numbers.
- Hard for new 4X players to understand all the mechanics, the statistics and UI buttons. Tutorial is nice, but basic. I understood everything since i'm a veteran player, but others might not.
- can't think of more cons ( yet )

Buy: If you like 4X, Space, exploration, turn-based games and you want something new. If you just want to support this fine developer it's cool too. These guys are still ambitious and want to make their game the best there is.

Don't buy: If you hate turn-based games, expect real space/tactical combat, hate empire management, want big cinematics and stunning cutscenes.
