Link to my Playthrough HERE. Written review below.

This is a great little narrative horror game with fantastic art.

I can see why some people would have an issue with this game particularly with the pacing of the story, but I didn't mind it at all. Some people will see the things that happen between events as filler, but I see them as necessary to bring the player back into the world and help lower their guard for the next hit of tension.

Some people will cringe at the characters but people like this really do exist. The characters are very flawed and human in ways that we might not be willing to accept but these types of people exist all around us and this game sheds a light on that. If you're unconvinced that characters like this actually exist, go browse through Reddit for 5 minutes and you'll see.

In any case, it's a good game and you get to enjoy it for less than the price of a movie ticket. Get the game if you enjoy visual novels. If you're on the fence, just watch a playthrough. I would highly recommend my video, of course.

This FMV horror game is great. It doesn't go completely off-the-wall but I'm hoping the sequel (if there is one) decides to go crazy and introduce zombies or somethin'

It also has checkpoints which is CRUCIAL for these games. Except for the first QTE and the last QTE. If you die on those, you have to start all over so be ready.

Wait before playing this game. It is unfortunately broken and not ready. It has been back to back game breaking issues that I've encountered causing repeat reloading of saves just to get through certain areas and this is JUST in the first chapter. I have faith that it'll get better but if you're on the fence, hold off for updates.

The other issue that I have is that certain very obvious things are explained directly to you, while things that should be explained are unbelievably vague and left for you to figure out. This combined with interactable objects breaking, tiny interact boxes, and the player losing the ability to change weapons or move or interact at seemingly random times is enough to frustrate even a shaolin monk.

Just be aware of this if you plan to be one of the first to purchase.

Will update this review after a week of updates.

Check my experience with this game out here!

This game is very clearly inspired by classic survival horror games but it does come with a fair share of strange yet welcome RPG elements. I'm personally a sucker for Horror RPG stuff so this is up my alley. On the surface, the story and gameplay seem simple enough but there is enough depth in both that multiple playthroughs are guaranteed. You keep your level-ups and weapons between attempts but every time you complete a loop, you get less and less time to uncover the bigger mystery of the mansion so it definitely isn't as simple as it seems.

There is a negative review here that doesn't recommend this game for a variety of reasons but I think they're being a little to critical of an indie game that costs $7. Keep in mind, they played for over 4 hours and then criticize its' repetitiveness. If we're talking about repetitiveness in the indie horror scene, you likely wouldn't recommend a single game. At the very least, a lot of this game is procedurally generated so memorizing new areas and finding weapons or encountering enemies you probably shouldn't have is exciting. Not to mention that the luck stat randomizes the stats of weapons so my current crowbar might be stronger or weaker than the next one I find. It's a fun feature.

PROS:
- The game has strong replayability and plays quickly so speedrunners will enjoy the feel very much.

- The guns and combat are fair but enemies can definitely mess you up if aren't aware of your positioning or are surrounded.

- Procedurally generated areas, randomized weapon stats, and RPG elements keep this game exciting throughout several playthroughs.

- Graphics are great in a nostalgic way.

- Sound design is very good but it can sometimes trick you because of the fixed cameras or enemies in other rooms sounding closer than they actually are.

- Local Couch Co-Op exists and it seems very cool. You can likely play it online with Parsec so if you have a friend who is into classic survival, that's another reason to get this game.

CONS:
- The biggest issue is when the player runs into anything, they'll immediately stop and get stuck. There are also areas where it looks like the player should easily run by but they get stuck. For example, you might think you can run between a couch and a fireplace but you'll get stuck and will have to wiggle around and through it. This normally wouldn't be an issue, but when time is ticking and you have to RUN, getting stuck on a dumb pillar can be frustrating.

- A lot of the notes seem random and don't really help you with anything. There are a few that hint at the bigger mystery of the mansion but if you don't know anything about it (like me) they seemed useless like every other note.

- The game seems very easy, even on HARD difficulty. If you're a decent gamer or a fan of classic survival horror, I would suggest 'Very Hard' or even 'Nightmare'.

I'll start with the CONS:

[Interaction Issue]
There are certain objects you can interact with and have no issues but then are others in which you need to be incredibly accurate to do so. For example, there is a section in the sewer in which you need to insert a key into a 'box' in order to retrieve the item inside of it. If you aren't looking directly at the keyhole, you won't be allowed to interact with it and you'll assume that you need to do something else (at least, I did). This might not seem like a big issue but the area is huge and you're being chased constantly so the repetitive chase music and the frustration of having to look everywhere and believing you might have missed something is very real.

[Puzzles]
As for the puzzles in this game, they're incredibly easy and I honestly wouldn't even consider them puzzles. The only puzzle that should require thought, does not allow you to make mistakes. If a piece is where it needs to be, it will tell you it's correct. This means you can shuffle the pieces around without thinking about it and it'll auto-solve itself.

[Music]
I mentioned it already, but the repetitive music is very, very bad. Even if you solve the sewer section quickly, the odds are that you will hear the chase music too many times. At a certain point, any fear or tension is replaced with eye-rolls and frustration. It's not like he can really catch you anyway. I was only hit twice in my entire playthrough and that's because I stopped caring about my own safety after 40 minutes of trying to find a key item.

Here are the PROS:

[Graphics]
This game looks fantastic. There's a ton of detail in every area and no shortage of viscera and other gross things. If you're into this aesthetic, I'd argue that this is probably the best looking game within this style.

[Voice Acting]
There is Voice Acting in this game, so you don't have to worry about reading every single thing. This is especially great news because my voice has been recovering lately so I'm happy to see it. Is the acting very good? Not really but I don't think it's meant to be. The voices are obviously from friends or online acquaintances so it's cool. I have no idea where the accents are from and I'm happy with never knowing.

[Gameplay]
The Gameplay is flawless. There is a very high level of polish here. No bugs, no crashes, no issues. There isn't anything particularly unique about the mechanics or anything. It's your standard indie horror game stuff. Crouch, walk, or run to find stuff and open doors to escape.

[Story]
The story is a story. If you're looking for a narrative with clever writing, subtle characters, and sophisticated twists, this isn't it. It's a guy in a pig mask killing people and you happen to be one of the victims.

[Overall Opinion]
I think it's fine. I'm not sure about paying $12 for this though. It's probably better to wait for a sale and get it at half price.

This game is a 100% visual novel with no choices so I can see why some people might have issues with it but it's a completely free experience so I don't really understand the snippy negative reviews for it in Steam reviews. The story is a bit predictable and our main character is a bit of a bore so I don't know why the things in this game have to happen to her. Without going into spoilers, I'll just say that it doesn't seem like she would be a target for this kind of thing because it's a bit inconsistent with prior victims.

When the heat gets turned up it works well and the sound effects do a good job of immersing you as long as you allow yourself to be immersed and aren't busy trying to be an unfunny streamer or pretend you're above the game.

Nor a perfect game but good enough to play through it because it is free, after all.

Oh yeah, love the music too.

This game deal with some pretty rough subject matter and I don't think it does a very good job of warning people so I'm going to go ahead and let you know that it deals with themes of sexual assault. It could be argued that it's done in poor taste but I don't think it is. It's just a very direct approach to a subject that is usually dealt with implicitly or through subtle environmental cues. This game will outright tell you that this is what is going on and your actions will lead to either yours or someone else's sexual victimization.

Now that the warning is out of the way, here is my review.

I've played every Chillas' Art game and this is their most optimized yet. It runs perfectly when you consider that every game before it has run terribly. I also didn't encounter any crazy bugs or collision issues.

The story is as I mentioned previously, a very direct and raw take on sexual assault. There isn't really even a story to talk about; it's just about two girls who are going to karaoke after school and depending on the ending, one of you won't make it.

The Gameplay is real simple too and there aren't a billion key items like there usually are in Chillas' Art games which is a welcome change. You walk around and inspect things and occasionally find stuff you can use. There is a really cool Karaoke Rhythm mini-game that I like a lot and you can play it from the main menu after you beat the game.

The endings are easy to get in my opinion, but they did take me a while to figure out.

I recommend this game if you and your audience can deal with the subject matter. It isn't their best game but it is definitely scary, that's for sure.

If I had to give it a number rating, I'd say it's a solid 7 out of 10 as far as Chillas' Art games go.

Legitimately a gorgeous game to look at. It's pleasing in every way and provides a great soundscape to complete the puzzles. All the puzzles flow nicely into one another and I never really found myself too lost except that you can get the clock hands a little early and if you're like me, you'll overthink every possible solution.

This game is undeniably inspired by Silent Hill in plenty of ways. The Easter eggs really show just how much this developer loves that series and I thought the recreations of certain locations were seemingly SPOT-ON except for some obvious necessary changes to maintain the low-poly aesthetic.

If there are any changes I would make it would be to add some feedback to the dial on the Safe so that you know when the number has been input and to fix a certain corner on the 2nd floor of the barn that lets you go behind some hay and get stuck.

When I played this game I wasn't aware that it was a prologue so I made many assumptions based off of the little info I was given. Without that context, the story in this game can seem like a very vague experience. It still very much is but now I understand that I'm missing many variables that could help me piece it together.

I can't wait for the full game!

Thanks for making games!

This was fun! It's a great little game and the puzzles flow together nicely. There are some weird moments with the bad guy where I couldn't hear his footsteps but other than that I didn't encounter any issues.
The multiple endings are also easy to get but the 'true'(?) ending isn't very rewarding. It even gives you an achievement that makes you feel like it wasn't very worth it (the easy way).

Small issues for an otherwise very solid game though.

Thanks for making games!

This game is everything I personally dislike about 'Backrooms' type games. Giant empty spaces, looking for notes, pass codes, and a character that moves so slowly I could overlap them in a race even if an elephant crushed my legs. If a walking simulator with nothing visually interesting to look at is what you're after, this is your game. Otherwise, steer clear. I also experienced a note that froze my game and an ending bug that didn't let me complete the first tape so I have no idea if I even cleared this game or not.

Definitely not worth $14.
