Some of the systems could use tuning and better explanation but overall it's good. I wouldn't really tag it as survival; hunger and cold won't kill you they will just weaken you.

It feels like it is heavily inspired by things like Breath of the Wild, Dark Souls, and Terraria.

It hits all the right points for the exploration, mystery, and discovery in a proceduraly generated open world.

The combat isn't Dark Souls level like some are claiming but it's streets ahead of survival/crafting games.

If you ever played Harvest Moon and thought "I wish I could do more with my farm" or "I wish I could play this with someone else" then this game is for you. This is definitly inspired (if not copied wholesale) by Harvest Moon and made by someone who grew up loving those games. I'm pretty sure they just thought "I'm going to make what I wish Harvest Moon was".

If you haven't played any of those games and you are skeptical about how this could be fun it's worth giving a shot.

There are a lot of negitive reviews saying how much you die or how it is too hard.

This game relies on the ability of the players to build and sustain a town. If the population outgrows the food or Eve didn't know what she was doing when she founded a town your whole town can collapse and starve. At first you will be struggling just to keep from starving but as you get developed, food will become less and less important as you get a variety of foods and clothes to keep you warm.

Right now it's pretty rough. Releasing on steam brought a wave of new people who don't really know what they are doing. That's fine, we all started that way, but with so much of the population being new it means that towns die really quick once the person who knows what they are doing dies. Eventually things will level out and it will go back to how it was before the steam release where if you logged in near the end of the day you were pretty sure to get born to a town with a baker, large farm, sheep, etc.

Once the growing pains are past the gameplay will become more fun. Either way you will have stories.

If you are interested in trying this out, go watch some lets play videos and you will be coming into this with a huge leg up on how things work.

Don't Starve alone is a great game in and of itself. Don't Starve Together builds on theose things that were great about the original and makes the learning curve a bit easier by adding multiplayer.

Great puzzle game that will often use physically impossible rooms as puzzles which can make things weird when you try to make a mental map of where you need to go.

Some of the most original gameplay that you will find in any puzzle game.

There is a reason everyone was talking about this game when it came out.

There is no diologe yet it has an interesting, mysterious plot that slowly unfolds as you play. By not coming straight out and telling you what is going on is leaves things open for you to make sense of on your own. (Avoid spoilers for this like the plague, it's better to go in blind)

The gameplay is pretty straight forward and the whole thing can be beaten in under 4 hours. That being said everything feels smooth and most of the time they are able to make it feel like you are constantly on the run.

This is a great game with solid art/sound design.

If you're looking for a good, unforgiving, sandbox survival that at least tries to be realistic (no zombies, magic, or crafting machine guns from rocks) then this is a great game for you.

It is early access, so if you buy this with expectations that it is something other than just that you may be let down. For what you get this is more than worth the $20 even if the story mode never comes out (But let's be honest, you're probably not paying full price) (also there is some mysterious countdown that they just posted on their webpage).

Look at the people giving negative reviews recently, most of them have hundreds of hours in the game. I bet if you asked them they would be able to tell you some intense stories of fending off wolves or trying to decide if they should risk going out in a blizzard or if they have enough food to hold out for better weather.

Here's a story:
Boy meets girl
Boy likes girl but girl keeps rejecting her
Girl get married to other guy
Boy is very depressed and lashes out constantly
Girls husband is killed in blast that also blows off boys arms
Girl patches boy up and falls in love
They get married
Boy is very happy because he's married and doesn't have to do any work (because he has no arms...)

Great game

Imagine taking the sims but set in a grungy, depressing, gut wrenching war. Now add the combat control of an RTS (click and hope that your guy kills the other first) and the scavenging of a survival game. That is This War of Mine.

The mechanics of the game can be a bit clunky, more than once you will try to select another character but instead you will tell your current character to stop what they are doing and walk somewhere else. The learning curve is steep and death is perminent.

This game isn't about the mechanics, it's about stories. If you play this game for the gameplay alone you will probably get bored of it after a few hours. If you just go look up way to maximize you gameplay and beat the game you probably wont get much out of it but if you play it just learning as you go, ready to fail a few times, reading all of the stories and everything it has to offer this can be a really interesing game.
