Let me start by... this game is great, it follows many principles, both mechanics, lore and philosophy from DD/DD:DA. While you're playing IT'S AWESOME.

But:
Terrible optimization, even on par with specs;
Invasive Denuvo DRM that is KERNEL-level, pretty much a malware;
Can't start over, gotta pay for character customization.
Not two minutes after official launch they shelf a ton of microtransactions... IN A SINGLE PLAYER GAME!

Capcom, we waited more than ten years for this, do rollback denuvo. It makes no sense.

Truth be told: you're just giving people reason to pirate the game and your future games. The internet doesn't forget.

Written as of the last update of december 21, 2023.

The game is nothing short of amazing. Mechanics are amazing, fluid gameplay, at first I was upset of the focus on 1st person but after my first battle I'm glad they did that, it feels very immersive and more detailed. Sadly, you can't do much in a controller besides basic attacks and movements, so keyboard and mouse it is.

So far I only played as an all-round mage, but focused on ragdolling enemies. Because: it's fun, and it's effective. There is a ton of ways to play, though. The leveling system is close to oblivion, but without major/minor separation and raw xp bonus too. There are skills for everything you can do in the game. If you could piss, there'd be a skill for it. But it's not bothersome, although personally I think we should have an option to toggle each minigame, some are nice, some are... weird. Personal taste.

It looks nice, it plays nice, progression is good. There are a few elements being under development, such as skill tree passives for magics, hopefully also some kind of vehicles to traverse the world map.

A bit expensive, at least in R$, but addictive. 9/10.

ps.: the game looks like unity from the assets, but it's actually in UE4

Review as 0.1.4.0

It doesn't even feel like a first release of early access. It has an amazing quality. I'd say 9/10

The game is quite polished for it's stage, it's fun, original, intuitive, exploring is quite nice, mobility is well done (which is key for a exploration game). The survival aspect is nice too, hunger isn't too bothersome. Progression is not bad but some tweaks are in order. Also, last update adressed some major issues, including AI pathing, it's quite better now.

It has some bugs, but much less than AAA games. Beware of potential save corruption and DO MANUAL BACKUPS FREQUENTLY , tho.

Just be mindful of where you place your base and the house within. Get mobility Pals ASAP and explore at night to see the statues to improve your catch chance.

Used to be a good game. One that you'd have fun with friends. But devs keep doing things nobody asked for. And when critics arrive, they simply say "naa just salty noobs with skill issues". Extremely childish. Source:

What a cheap way to dismiss fair feedbacks. I wish I could refund it, even though I purchased years ago.

The internet is not good at forgetting such takes, have all the white-knights you have in discord as you want.

If you (PaS) want to redeem yourself, stop milking this old cow and make something better.

Well, 11h at the time of the writing and I'm having a blast.
Game is well detailed, has a lot of features and fills a gap of real state management in the simulation genre. The total ammount of reviews and positive review ratio (6,932 and 93% as of now) for an early access game also speaks volumes of the quality.

I also expected far less from an early access title of this scope, but this one is pretty solid for a 0.4. Devs are communicative, there's a countdown/estimative of next big update, plus in the 0.3 and 0.4 updates there were 3 bugfixes a few days after each, so it does seem like a dutiful team.

p.s.: I didn't abbreviate early access to EA on purpose ;)

Numbers go up, but with magic.

But really, it's a great idle with a mix of active and offline play, it starts slow and with few features but they get added as you progress in the game. You always learn things when you need to learn them, not before nor after.
There is even a demo with a few quests and basic features, from which you can make a pretty good call on if you want to buy it or not. And yes the progress made on the demo will be there on the full game.

Beautiful and well-designed homage to old school isometric RPGs. It has many details that enrich the gameplay, while not being bothersome and complicating things for the sole reason of being complicated. It does, however, have some significant flaws and design choices that I strongly don't agree with, so I recommend it with big caveats, specially regarding the lack of respawn. There is also the issue that the community is dead and developers don't communicate, even in discord. Below is a pros and con list I'll be updating as I play it (current: 12h)

Pros:
++ Great ambience, has a old-lightning option;
++ Great dialogues so far, each character has a small text when you interact with them, showing how it's the relationship between them and your character;
+ Nice character creation screen, gives a good headstart and already states in between the lines that you can't exceed in everything;
+ It has a character sheet (I'm looking at you, simplified Skyrim);
+ Tooltips on almost all stats of the character and items;
+ Nice music and sound effects;
+ Has a basic map which shows where you already visited. Also lets you place and delete your own markers;
+ Nice enemy placement;
+ Has a manual, albeit shallow;

On the fence (you can be the judge)
+- Limited quest log. This is both good for avoiding handholding but bad as quests can pile up and not much is shown about them in the log;
+- Slow leveling pace. Your main source of experience are quests, killing monsters gives you a small ammount of XP, even to get to level 2 and 3.

Cons:
--- Has no respawn for mobs and minerals (trees can "respawn" and be farmed for wood). I haven't played a single single player, 3D/isometric exploration game with heavy focus on crafting and building that has benefitted from not having respawns. On the contrary, it's detrimental to both exploration, as constantly judging such things undermines the sandbox possibility, as it also is very bad for the crafting/repairing/building aspect of it.
-- The slow leveling pace and limited ammount of things you can learn at each level, coupled with the need to invest in a bit of everything because of the crafting/repairing/building is not a good combination.
-- Most of the chests, even in dungeons, are locked, so you're soft-forced into upgrading the lockpicking skill to at least 1;
-- As far as I know, drinking a crafted potion doesn't give back it's glass, which is the most expensive part, despite other features (such as water bucket) returning the empty item;
-- Community is dead and there's a lack of communication from the devs. I'm in doubt about the topic above but have only found unanswered discussions here on the steam, and nothing on the discord server. Manual doesn't say anything about it, either.
-- Enemies have too much HP, even on normal.

MAJOR EDIT: I USED TO Recommended but with big caveats. Before this DLC fiasco I'd give EGS a 8 or 7.5/10, now at best a 4.5/10. The main reason is the now common play of "we hear you" FAQ/statement about the DLC, but not adressing ANY major concerns raised. This trend is too tiresome to ignore. And releasing a side-content DLC while the game is dated and unfinished. I cannot recommend the game anymore.

Update as 7 feb 24, who'd guess the DLC would introduce serious bugs? Also DLC is not discounted... edit, as of 06 sept 24, devs and mods delete all and any critics on news and discussions. They don't want you to speak what they don't want you to speak.

Since the opinions are very divided and there is a LOT of white-knighting by veterans. If such industry problems concern you, I recommend you reading carefully the comments in Steam, specially in the DLC announcement discussion (locked, ironically) and deciding how much this impacts the reputation of the game. Also read Funcom's own statement for a quite different pitch than Elleon's.

It's a nice game, but it got a huge learning curve and progress isn't as fast as in similar games (like NMS). I'll explain better as I go on. I didn't touch Reforged Eden yet, by the way. Also, it's a complex and lenghty game, so the review needs to be long to make justice to it and to make you well informed.

IMPORTANT: if you want less stress, turn on keep inventory, slow food consumption or disable it, make enemies weaker (they hit hard), disable equipment degradation. It's a single player game, nobody will judge and, even if they do, you shouldn't care.

Pros
+ Detailed, nice realistic features;
+ Lots, lots of freedom;
+ Nice soundtrack and audio output can be changed midgame;
+ Alt+tab doesn't break the game, just avoid doing so when loading or saving and you'll be ok;
+ Different factions with consequences;
+ Blueprint time will display as X minutes or even Y hours. Just sleep in-game for 8 hours. Same on any crafters.
+ Four starting planets, each with their own challenges;
+ You can build your own stuff;
+ Many tools available to make life easier;
+ Pretty, either on planets or IN SPACE;
+ Amazing creators with amazing bases and vessels. From basics, to combat-oriented, utilitarians, case-specific or simply luxury works of art;
+ Performance isn't a considerable issue;
+ Loading times are not bad (SSD);

Cons
- Bad tutorial because it feels like a tutorial, a heavy one at that. A tutorial should be like Portal's. You don't feel like it's a tutorial and even if you do it's light and teaches you what you need to know only when you need it. This game teaches too much too early and doesn't teach things when you need to;
- You can't see the list of devices from the blueprint screen (F2). Create a backup (floppy symbol in ESC menu) before putting in the materials and revert if you didn't like it.
- The quantity of buttons you always need to use makes it impossible to play with a controller;
- Weird quest and tutorial UI, feels cluttered and dated;
- Dated UI overall, but can feel nostalgic so that depends on you;
- Engine feels dated.
- Enemies spawn out of the blue and sometimes in big quantities. And they might spawn just where you are or where you were. I don't agree with this design of sheer quantity and short spawn distance as it feels like a cheap artificial difficulty;
- Enemies have 100% accuracy and apparently never reload, even though player weapons, even the best ones, do have recoil and spread... why? ;
- Healing yourself, even with the right item, can lead to another new desease/problem sometimes;
- Universe is limited, single-player resources are limited unles you use "wipe" command (press ' to open the command line and type help wipe);
- Game tries too much to be detailed and realistic, confuses complexity as means to be more entertaining;
- Vehicles (hover vessel and hover bikes) are a clunky pain to drive in planets with many stuff scattered around;
- Lack of upgrades to solar energy and variety of clean energy sources (or even coal and nuclear sources);
- Late tier items are not an upgrade in all terms, since their requirements (energy input, CPU points) also increase heavily. Some other stations are either not useful or very situational, such as the furnace, which, despite it's name, has a limited range items it'll handle;
- Despite the ammount of stuff, there is a lack of "middle grounds" or lack of a late-game variant. For example, shields. A lack of smaller, weaker shield while the usual ones are big and consume a lot of energy feels like an oversight that, apparently, some custom scenarions fixed;
- Unbalanced mob damage, lack of personal Halo-like shield. Suit durability affects the damage you take;
- Some crafting can be pointless, while rare chests also give stuff you could easily craft. A looting table revamp could be very nice;
- The more you play, the less advantage there seems to be in playing vanilla VS playing a custom scenario, specially the widely adopted Reforged Eden.

Hints:
! Make frequent backups (floppy symbol on ESC menu);
! If you want to play straight from Reforged Eden or other advanced custom scenario, consider making a vanilla tutorial save to learn the basics first;
! You can use the portable constructor as a infinite (non-logistics) storage for abundant and heavy materials like crushed stones, steel plates, etc;
! Always make a backup before putting items for blueprint crafting;
! Press ' to open the console and type help to see all commands, some like teleport are useful when you or your vessels are stuck;
! Visit the discord and ask around in the general thread or just hang around, people there are cool and helpful :) ;
! Workshop blueprints are usually better than blueprints that come with the game. But some are for Reforged Eden (overhaul mod) or simply outdated. Keep that in mind. Look for people that already made a series of blueprints;
! Remember to use F5 to mine underground or to look about for enemies in turns and crevices;
! While parts like "Steel/Sathium Plates" can't be deconstructed, they can be fed directly into your F2 screen to craft vessels and bases. So you can salvage crashed and abandoned places!;
! Remember to save a repair template if you make big changes to your vessels. Upgraded the windshields, cockpit, added more CPU or etc? Hit P and on the main tab, lower left corner save that template for when some pesky small critter hits your hull you won't be bothered forever from a missing or mismatching block.

It feels like the game wants to be bothersome and cluttered by choice. You start the game and there comes a avalanche of things to learn on your way, as you go on, build your base and etc. It still feels weird and it doesn't quite compell you to build your own stuff, I felt more akin to use the base recipies, but seeing how they lacked some important stuff (storage, fridges) I decided to try the workshop, really nice stuff and kind creators there. Helpful community on discord too!

As if complexity is confused with quality or lack of shalowness, which is isn't. But there are some good choices between the meaningless hardships. For example, if you want to rely on solar energy, daytime is much larger near the equator, thus the ratio of day/night time strongly favors your building. Yet, there is a lack of upgrades to solar energy to make it more efficient without needing to cover your base on it, and there are no wind/geothermic/water related clean sources of energy either.

The spawn system in dungeons is WONKY. Sometimes enemies spawn where you just were, or suddently in front of you in large quantities. Feels like a cheap way to make the game more difficult, and they should be seen from more far away / spawned with greater distance so you can plan yourself.

Since the recent Tennocon 2023 and Heirloom packages there's a dark omen of more FOMO and more agressive monetization.

No updates to core mechanics and more physics features, survival was pointless from a veteran's perspective.
