There's a lot of negative reviews saying 'you can't play this casually' but - that's not completely true. Does this game eat up your life from time to time? Yes, you do have to check in daily or so even on PvE servers, the game is HIGHLY demanding with this on PvP and/or offical PvP servers.

Tl;dr version of this: I recomend the game if you have a group of friends, a clan or have time to waste because you have nothing else better to do currently. The game has a lot of potential, doesn't look like it'll be in development hell, get's updated pretty 'regularly' and is unqiue and fun. If ARK is on sale - give it a try. 30 dollars? Eh, get it if you have friends who play or if it is up your alley.

Now, to the pro's and con's.

Pro's -
1. The game gets updated pretty 'regularly'. It's not a dead game and it doesn't appear like it'll be left in development hell. The dev's seem to keep everyone updated and make sure to show progress in the game.

2. Fun to play with friends though it can be grindy. I've played Rust and a few other survival games in the past but I tend to prefer Ark over them. The fanbase doesn't seem /totally/ cancerous but it of course has d-bags in it of course. (Mostly the Chinese players seemingly - I don't exactly get why but from my expirence even on offical pvp servers the Chinese tribes tend to be the most agressive and a-hole like)

3. Unique. Ark is pretty damn unique with it's idea of dinos and survival game. You tame dinos, kill others, kill players, hope to god the dino doesn't die. Do this time and time again with all sorts of new times. Some dino's are better at gathering reasources, others good at combat - some even give passive boosts to other dinos near them.

Now, to the major cons -
1. Dear god the optimization is B A D. For the labled min service requirments being: "2 GHz Dual-Core 64-bit CPU" and "Memory: 4000 MB RAM" - that isn't going to happen. I'm on a quadcore I7 intel that is 2.5 GHz, a pretty new-ish NVIDIA card and around 8GB of ram and I'm lucky to get a solid framerate of 20-30 fps sometimes when not playing on low memory mode. The dev's REALLY need to fix this issue instead of adding new dino's or DLC.

2. The offical servers are horrible. They have hacker/exploiter tribes on them, even on new-ish PvP servers that run the show. It makes it impossible to play on without getting screwed by them. How to avoid this? Play on unoffical servers, personally I prefer 'PvPvE' servers, servers that have offline-raid-protection or RolePlay servers - the playerbases there are much better from my expirence. The issue with these? You're lucky to get a populated one and some tribes run everything because they dominate the server.

3. The grind. Without a private server having a XP, gather rate or taming boost, be ready to sink 10 hours in to just tame a high level good dino (That will, with my tribes luck, die in 10 min in some stupid fight where their AI sucks). It takes forver, and if you get raided you get to kiss it all goodbye. It makes the game impossible to play without sinking countless hours to get everything you need. Again, like the last point - unoffical servers usually fix this issue. Just find one with a slightly higher gathering, taming and/or XP rate. 10x takes the fun out of the game but 3-4x rates usually help if you want to just have fun, do a bit of PvP, play it as a casual and not get pissed when you get raided.

4. Everything you love WILL DIE! Dinos and players die so fast due to nearly ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reasons of: "I got stuck INSIDE THE RAPTOR!", random bugs, a roof-camping 'alpha tribe' who runs the server or the dreaded T-birds that will kill any dino you just spent an hour or more taming. This makes the grind HORRIBLE. certain agressive animals are almost overpowered, a level 15 sometimes taking out a level 90 dino. I don't know if it's lack of balancing, my own horrible horrible luck and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ playstyle or if the spawn locations are in ♥♥♥♥ areas. Ether way, be prepared to lose a lot and have to make a hard-core base. Players won't be the only thing raiding you, a Alpha T-Rex will just decide to wander it's way up to your base and try to kill anything there.

5. Final point. The game has proven, even in early access, it releases DLC. I got the 'Scorched Earth' DLC and it was good. The issue with it though was it wants you to transfer your character server to server, creating more of a grind unless you are on, once more, a unoffical server that attempts to help with this (Cluster servers usually have 2 servers, one deticated to vanilla non-dlc game and one server for scorched earth so you can transfer back and forth). The issue with this is that the game isn't released yet and the dev's are making DLC to get money, the DLC adds onto the grindfest as if to help players get along (Though it's not pay to win, you still have to grind, but you can get more rare things to help) along with the fact there's 2 free DLC - The Center, a good vanilla map one, and Primitive Plus which is broken to ♥♥♥♥ (It was a mod that the dev's added as a DLC)

The end of my long rant
Finally, overall if you managed to sit through my rant - is the game good? Yes.
Do I recomend it? Yes, but unless you have friends playing it I don't suggest paying full price unless you're a Rust enthusist or a masochist.
Does this game have potential and are the dev's active with it? Yes. This is a good example of how I think early access games should be - active devs, a clear goal, a living playerbase and so forth (Except for the paid for DLC's while it's still in early access - that's the one damn no-no I have with this game development wise)

Hopefully this game goes far and doesn't prove me wrong for supporting it. I'd give it a 7/10 or like a 6.5, which even for a early access is...pretty good due to recent trends. The game has me hooked, it's a hate-love relationship at this point.

Battle of Empire's /CAN/ be a good game but you need firends or at least someone you know to play with to make it really fun. The single player campaign DLC is a rip-off - I bought this game in early access before each campaign was it's own DLC and honestly I feel like I got a shell of a game.

There's not much singleplayer besides the French and Russian campaign and you must pay for the others (You may even have to pay for those - I got them for buying it early access but even then I still didn't get many of the other DLC's really). There's DLC for multiplayer and the games multiplayer is...hit or miss.

I followed the game since it was a mod for the original Men of War: Assault Squad. I was fine with it being made a standalone game and paying for it as long as I got a complete version - sadly halfway though early access the Dev's just decided to make the entire singleplayer of the game into DLC's basically. This isn't how you make a game, I feel like I wasted money on this.

Overall, if you love Men of War and WWI - you might like this. With friends, a deticated community group or spending how much money (like 6 dollars for a campaign that should have been included in the base game) it can be fun. Maybe I'm just complaining because of the money I spent for the game (It wasn't 5 dollars at the time, I believe it was in the 20's range) basically for a half-complete French campaign and multiplayer expecting I'd get the other campaigns as they came out since I bought the game.

Only buy the multiplayer for 5 bucks unless you decide you want to blow your money on DLC which doesn't even feel or play great since updates for the game don't even come out that often.

Favorite metal band mixed with one of my favorite games.

Some of Sabaton's music is a bit heavy, but these songs go VERY well with Europa Univeralis 4 as music. Dramatic but not too heavy for the gameplay.

Nudity options in game:
1) Yeah
2) Yes
3) Hell yeah
4) Dong
5) True

Enough said. 10/10 would shower with daddy again. This game will keep you entertained till Fallout 4 or Half Life 3 comes out, but sadly there you will not shower with daddy.

Better then Bad Rats. Like Skyrim with dads.
