Eiyuden Chronicle : Hundred Heroes is a faithful successor to the 90's era Suikoden, both in spirit... and body.

You'll find all the components that made the Suikoden series great : A plethora of heroes to recruit (120 in this case) conflict engulfing countries and civilians, personal agendas and of course your Headquarters to stage your resistance from.

Combat is pretty much the same with 6 active party members and a passive one, with the great addition of 3 reserve slots where event-required heroes can be put, allowing you to keep your usual team of heroes.
A new combat ressource also makes an appearance. You now have SP, a resource that you start with a random amount with starting a fight and then replenishes for 1 point per turn. This will be used for personal skills and combos, making fights a bit more tactical and less of a combo spamming one.
Runes charges have been replaced by MP. The change feels weird at the start considering how little MP you have and how costly spells are for their effects, but later in the game it feels pretty good.
Duels are much more intense and are part of the storytelling, with characters speaking and jinting at their attacks, all felling pretty theatrical.
Wars are feel a bit like a Total War game would be if it was turn based and menu based, except here it seems no skill is required and you only need to move towards the enemy. It feels like an illusion of there being gameplay, while it resolves itself. Which I find quite unfortunate.

The story is good but not stellar either. It also feels less dramatic than the Suikoden series (especially when compared to Suikoden 2. The addition of VA for every character is somewhat of a big plus that adds to the characters personality.
Still, the game had its share of stereotypical characters whose personalities can be resumed in just a sentence each. :like the "usually smart but raging fanboy of the villain" or the "everyone but me is incompetent, greedy coward".

As for the translation thing that the forums are apparently burning with, I found it decent. Not the most on point for sure, and at times changing slightly the feel of the conversations (I have a fairly limited understanding of verbal Japanese, thanks to anime mostly) but overall felt correct.
The words that seem to offend some people who find it to be about wokeness or political agendas, seem to me more about failed jokes or a bad job at translating the mood.

As for the reason I said the game's body is also from the 90's ?
Well there is a huge amount of information lacking just about for anything. character's stats are not explained, equipment attributes are guessed, same for how some skills work...
There are a few tutorials that can be accessed from the menu but they really only cover the most basic things while forgetting some others.
There is a big improvement in that you can improve anyone of your heroes' weapon at the smith once you unlock him at your HQ, yet you'll have to select each hero one by one, and upgrade weapons once at a time for a max total of 15 weapon levels. No QoL for multiple levels or multiple heroes.
A lot of the minigames are just busy work, the Eggfoot race being the worst offender, having to navigate through its menus, watch a race unfold you have no influence on, and keep doing so until your Eggfoot is fully upgraded and out of race capacity (they get a max of upgrades and races to run, and then you breed them to do it all again for better stats).
Beigoma is just guessing how things work and I still have to understand how it all really works, I just brute forced my way through.

Overall I really like the game but it has it's frustrating parts, maybe more than my memories of the Suikoden series can think of. A lot of QoL upgrades would make the game much more fun.

And then a final warning, the game has absolutely no deadzone configuration for your controll's joystick. Meaning any slight deviation of the stick will move your character. This is the one point that made me crazy at times.
This should have already been patched.

So, I just finished Saint's Row and can give my opinion on the game.
To make it short, the game is weak and adds nothing special to the formula.
It's the least interesting Saint's Row I played, and very far from the closest looking (and best of the series) Saint's Row 3.

There are some good times, and infuriating ones (well, it's a Saint's Row). There is little actual personality to most characters and none have any development.
The gameplay mechanics themselves are fine, good even, though they still haven't added a proper cover system for the player.
The story is weak and the end was fairly nonsensical to me.
Also there is a huge mess on the audio front and, without extensively digging deep to tune it well enough, you'll only properly hear voices, the rest will be very low / muffled. You get used to it but it adds to the weak feeling of the game.

All said, the game is worth a playthrough but not the purchase of DLCs nor the grind to complete all of it. Finished at 28 hours and still have at least half the side-missions left over and the last ventures not purchased.

Still, I think it's a good game, just no a worthy Saint's Row, Hence the okay-ish thumbs up.

Overall a solid Rune Factory game except for one glaring issue that really disappointed me.

The game's events are randomized but fixed to a certain day per week. This can be good for multiple playthroughs to keep things fresh, but many events are required to unlock romance with the candidates.
This an be annoying.
What is just plain terrible is that the whole act 3 is unlocked by the same mechanic. Meaning that if you get lucky, you can unlock it very fast. If you're not, like me, you might be running through every single event before finally getting to play the last act. Which I didn't do even after so much playtime.

You can also grind events, by save/load scumming to discover which day of the week the event is, then keep trying again and again. I call this the braindead way, and even though I was patient enough to try it, I couldn't unlock the event.

Without that randomness (that just decided I shouldn't play the rest of the game) I would have loved the game but it left a great bitter taste in the end.

"The following review acknowledges that the game is over a decade old, but is made by someone who first played it in the past week and for people who have yet to play it."

This game is a disappointment for Star Ocean fans, and a barely passable JRPG on its own.
I have a few gripes with the game that simply killed it for me at the 12th hour mark, unfortunately.

First is the story :
It just is so predictable and filled with so many tropes (again, old game, maybe older than said tropes) that it becomes risible and annoying/boring.
Some dialogues feel fairly childish and somewhat cringy. But not all, some events made me smile too.
Character actions and reactions seem odd at times too.

Second comes the controls and fights :
Camera work can be horrendous. While it is okay in open maps, as soon as you have walls it becomes a real mess, which is enhanced by the moving enemies you might try to dodge or engage for surprise attacks.
When battles start, the camera usually starts in a position so that you'll have to (slowly) turn it towards the enemies, leaving you wondering where even your target really is for the first few seconds in battle.

In combat, it is fairly frequent to be soft stun-locked just by the AI repeating the same attack move again and again (I found this much more frequent than in past Star Ocean games), until you find the No Guard skill 12 hours into the game.
I found combat much less interesting than in The Second Story or 'Till the End of Time. I still prefer Star Ocean : The Second Story's method of increasing skill levels by using them, which increases their potency and even the visuals and AoE above a certain point, compared to The Last Hope's purchasing everything with the same skill Points.

Another minor point that I found annoying is the fact that you have Dash action with no cooldown for sprinting a short distance on the map, and with no speed loss upon finishing the dash.
This, plus the fact that moving on open field feels really slow pushes you to spam the dash button with its annoying sound.
They could simply have given the player a faster average speed and a dash on cooldown instead.

As for the animation, I'm not a fan but you get used to it fairly quickly.

And finally, the final nail the in the coffin that made me drop the game is the fact that the last cutscene I was seeing was so long that my screen somehow went on standby during it. Which made the game crash when I woke it up by moving the mouse.
Also, the game tends to disallow alt tabbing.

This game is an impressive, story-rich, worthy Harvest Moon descendant with a quirk.
Instead of being a farmer with on-the-side activities, you are a builder taking and completing build orders from the city's guild.

You have the standards of all HM games : home improvements, tool improvements, social interactions, marriage...
The story is very rich for the genre and you unlock areas all along (new traders, "biomes", ruins...).
The social interaction are also pretty advanced when compared the other heavy hitter closer to Harvest Moon that is Stardew Valley. You can go to play with friends and do many activities or on dates with your partner, and every NPC is voiced, though the quality is at times different from a character to another and some lines aren't voiced at all.

On the job mechanics, you have to harvest ressources with the standard pick and axe for minerals and lumber, which are the basis of most of your creations. You start very small, making stone stools, and rise up to building large complex structures depending on your orders. The story and event creations are used and visible in the world while the daily commissions are just given to NPCs for completion.

As for the game time, I played 82 hours and stopped at mid-fall of the 2nd years at the time of the review. I completed the main story (which I believe I rushed a bit) and have only just wed, with many more social parts to play as well as being first in the seasonal events.

Just as the first game is very enjoyable, One Finger Death Punch follows suit with a slightly increased variety of weapons and more background animations.

The free roaming world map is no more and now you have a single path with branching at times for bonus rewards. Once you complete all fights in one map, you follow on to the next.

The trilogy is now complete !

Banner Saga 3 is quite unlike the other games as in this one one of the caravans has reached its final destination and is preparing to weather the encroaching darkness while the other is getting to the heart of it.

It was really nice to see how the small, seemingly unimportant events were mentioned and at times had an important part in the game.
The culmination of the story is pretty dark and begs for a re-run or two to completely understand the story and to see all the events and variations depending on earlier choices. It can be as simple as a character dying early and just not being present to a major pivotal points you wouldn't expect.

Speaking of character deaths, few will be spared from potential death, and little time is spent lamenting on their losses.
It might be seen as a bad thing with lots of hand waving. I see it as an interesting thing when I think of the whole context.
The world is breaking all around you and you already don't have the time to do what you have to, and now you would have to take the time to mourn others. You just can't, the pace is to fast to stop and do so.

The pace is pretty frenetic if compared to Banner Saga and Banner Saga 2. At the start you will travel some but after that it will be condensed moments of dialogue events and lots of fighting.

Fighting got a revamp with the 2nd wave system being reworked as a reinforcement mechanics where you can change the fielded heroes when you manage to kill all enemies on the field before a timer runs out (you can also flee and stop the fight). If you choose to go on you can field any other hero and if you win the last wave as well, you can acquire the item worn by the wave boss (a higher stat enemy).

The Dredge heroes are very interesting though they have little in the manner of dialogues.
The Human heroes are a pretty mixed bag, Petrus being the best of the lot and Alfrun being a weird one.

The visuals may be above those of Banner Saga and Banner Saga 2, especially due to the change of atmosphere.
The OST is once more a fantastic job on Austin Wintory's part (and his orchestra and collaborators).

I loved this game as much as I did the others before and a bit sad at the same time since we reached the conclusion of the Trilogy. Hopefully there will be more exploration of the Sagaverse done in the coming years.
For now we will have Survival Mode coming this year and after this we will get the Eternal Arena, content of which we do not know yet.

I just finished it and really loved it. I wasn't particularly in the mood and the writing managed to hook me pretty well.
The bartender mini-game services well the game and is integral part to routes you may or not see.(edited)
The story is atypical and well supplemented by both the diverse cast and regular readable articles during the breaks between each day.
Although not super expressive, the character still have a sufficient and diverse range of expressions to make the player want to watch their reactions and not just read on.
This may not be a super production VN, but it sure is a high quality entertainment which leaves you some things to ponder about.

Brigador is an immense mass of explosive fun with a surprising amount of complex mechanics.
To start with, you have a lengthy mission-based campaign each with 4 preset loadouts available.
Then you get Freelance missions using equipment, pilot and operation theatres bought with money acquired from accomplished missions.

You can choose to go around as a stealthy light mech, sniping only key targets. Or you can go the other way and use a Ultra heavy tank and heavy weapons to destroy all in the way.

This game may look cute with its round character design yet it is also quite dreary.
The atmosphere is really good, and while not usually scary, it can be very stressful...in a good way.

The story is quite interesting, the overall world design seems fitting and the gameplay elements are basic and functionnal.
The controls are simple and fitting, with a few interact-able items and inventory items to help you.

30€ is a hefty price, so I recommend getting it on sale, though the game itself is really unique (well the series is) and merits the interest.
