(Early Access Review)

I've gotten to around the level 15-20 mark around the time of writing and I can definitely say this is a fantastic rpg/mmo type game. Absolutely adore Kiseff's artwork so I knew I would pick this up regardless.

This is a game with a class based structure primarily based around completing objectives, doing side quests, and gathering loot and weapons. This is a game that really feels like a cross between a 3D platformer, beat em up, and classic WOW, which all blend together into a surprisingly tight and addictive gameplay loop overall.

At the moment there's not much I can give in terms of negatives but I do have some particular thoughts on 2 portions of the game at the moment.

1. You should be able to wear class exclusive equipment as a vanity, a lot of these clothing drops are cute but you can't wear them unless you're the specified class.
2. The Forest/LVL 15 Dungeon feels genuinely insane to be accessible at level 15, granted I may just be bad but as someone running true melee its downright brutal to fight enemies that are nearly 6 levels higher than you.

But this are such minor nitpicks and the game is in EARLY early access, I really don't have much to complain about with this title! Its good videogames whether you play solo or with friends... plus its like 200mb you can make room for it.

Short, concise, and perfect in its mechanics this is what anyone should look for in a solid roguelike; an experience where player knowledge goes a long way compared to reliance on getting an game-breaking item combo. While this game does have upgrades and items, they're mainly supplemental and designed to enhance your existing kit or help you get a quick heal.

Its just a GOOD game its that simple, and for 3 dollars that's a steal.

Amongst the best in the series and dare I say one of the best fighting games ever. Lots of character variety, stages, palette swaps, and one of the most banging soundtracks you could ask for. Alongside unique mechanics such as enhancing moves with meter it makes for a heavily offense focused game where being aggressive is rewarded.

Anytime I play Strive I get bored of it within a few days and always find myself jumping back into this or Rev 2 without fail.

(Updated after achieving 100% completion: All 50 Gold and Cherry Disks)

UFO 50 really is a package with something for everyone, especially anybody with an interest in game design or a love for old school titles (I'm both of these markets). Nearly every game offers a unique idea or a spin on a pre-existing genre and genuinely puts the modern game development scene to shame in so many instances with its well-executed ideas.

Games like Warptank being a spin on Blaster Master's tank controls with gravity flips or games like Mooncat having one of the most interesting control schemes I've ever seen, there's a new idea in every experience for better or worse and I loved every minute of it.

Eirik's music is also yet again nothing but bangers, but this should be expected if you're familiar with his work. The limitation of a 32-color palette across also games also lends itself insanely well to really creative color and stage design choices, its always vibrant but never eye-piercing.

The only major negative I could give this game is entirely related to the type of person that may tackle it, like Spelunky/Spelunky 2 this is a game with three base levels of what someone could consider "completing a game" which are...
Completing a minor objective in a game gives players an item for their virtual garden, often unlocked around midway through a game or trying out a specific mode. Completing the base game gives you a Gold Disk and if a player is really to they can go for a Cherry Disk, which is usually a difficult challenge or bonus objective to complete. Many people may get frustrated if they go for all completions in order as many of these games are old-school levels of hard, but that's the beauty of a 50-in-1 collection... you gotta figure out what methods or pace work best for you.

But overall? This is an insanely polished project 8 or so years in the making, you can really tell how much heart went into every single one of these titles, especially alongside the meta-narrative story about game design and the people involved in the process of game-making as a whole.

At the time of writing this most bugs introduced via the new code base have been fixed, I can 100% recommend this DLC in its current state as its confirmed more fixes are on the way. Most issues related to this DLC weren't the developers but rather corporate and higher ups wanting to push this content as fast as possible without proper testing.

That being said! Most content added in this expansion rocks, my only major gripes being that Chef's primary could be reworked as well as sear being given a bit more range. A few of the new items such as the transmitter, thorns, antlers, and lantern could also use some overhauling as their use-cases are either entirely useless or borderline detrimental if you're using them correctly.

Overall the new stages, boss, characters, and enemies are welcomed additions overall, just needs a bit more refinement. Its obvious that the team working on this clearly cares about Risk of Rain as a whole and I can't wait to see what they do next (as long as they're actually given time to test content before it needs to be released)

Never been a big CSGO/CS2 player (really just played source a few times) But I can absolutely say the state of their live service FPS games is laughable due to cheaters, botting, and lack of proper upkeep on these issues.

They need put forth the resources for the dreaded "treadmill work" of maintaining an anti-cheat for games they're treating as actively supported products. Like this game just got an overhaul and it even started having cheater issues in the beta.

Disclamer for this review: I am currently on the 3/4th layer of depth this game has to offer and currently working with friends/the community to figure out what exactly we need to do next. I've gotten all the collectibles we know of so far.

It should also be mentioned that if you stumbled across this review or one of the ones that ACTUALLY TALKS ABOUT THE GAME please understand those are the truest reviews here, I've heard many people are hesitant to check out this game because of all the """funny""" joke reviews. This is a genuinely great game that deserves your time, not an epic wacky wahoo youtuber moment. Remember that Dunkey is the publisher that helped fund/get eyes on the game, not Billy Basso; the dev who made 100% of everything himself.

Animal is a puzzle-focused metroidvania with little to no "direct combat". Rather than approach the game as a sort of action-combat platformer animal well is primarily focused on its collectibles post game content as well as its main first ending. Its hard to go into detail about either of this without spoiling much of the game itself.

This is a game that treats the player with a ton of respect, never outright telling you how an item or mechanic works but rather being forgiving enough (in most cases) for the player to figure it out themselves. Some instances of collectibles or pathways in this game often require the player to figure out a new clever way to use an item, often in combination with another at the same time Link's Awakening style.

At the time of writing this I've completed the first ending and I'm not sure how much more is deeper below, I've got a current goal in mind in finding the remaining items + collectibles but I know there's much more to be found besides that, this gaming having so much packed into it and only being 34 MB is genuinely a feat of programming and game design as a whole.

Overall? This is one of the best metroidvanias/games in general I've played in quite some time, it treats the player with a great deal of respect and trusts that they're smart enough to figure out even the wildest puzzles, alongside giving you mapping tools and markers the game is incredibly accessible no matter what level of completionist you may be.

Remembered this game recently after logging onto Kickstarter to see I was a backer.

This game is a fun bout for an hour or two but after that you've seen all the depth and fun you could possibly get out of it. The strongest positive this game brings to the table is letting you know Jack the Reaper exists and the "demo" for that game is amazing in itself.

This game's gimmick was rebalanced a few times but it really feels like a neutered smash bros in more ways than one, the reliance on hopping + heavy hits results in unsatisfying gameplay. As it stands many years later it still just "misses" the mark for me, I love the character choices overall but that isn't enough to save a game like this for me.
