I did it. I climbed the mountain.

Chances are, you've seen what's up top too. You saw a YouTuber do it, even though there's a check at the end. At any rate, this game doesn't hold any substance anymore.

But that's wrong.

It does.

----------------------------------------

Bennett Foddy designed this game for a specific type of person.

The headstrong, the persistent, unrelenting people.

The people who will never give up.

He took those feelings and constructed a game designed specifically to attack these types of people.

During your trip up this impossible mountain, you will face pain.

You will feel the crushing force of failure.

That's the test of this game.

Not the skill required in actually defeating the mountain.

But the psychological skill required to persevere through your journey.

That's the test.

That's the game.

And if you're not that kind of person.

If you're not the person who will always look for victory, even in the face of failure.

Then this game is not for you.

Or maybe it is.

I guess you'll have to find out for yourself.

UPDATE: August 28, 2019
----------------------------------------

I've climbed it 50 times.

I guess I've passed the challenge.

Or was that even the challenge to begin with?

This game never posed any beyond the initial mountain.

Or the second.

Or the third.

All the way to where I am now.

But, peaked, where now do I go?

The only achievements left to gain are spots on the speedrunning leaderboards.

Is that really my goal?

Should that really be yours as well?

----------------------------------------

Not everyone is cut out for a game like this.

Not everyone should be.

This game provides a challenge for the headstrong, persistent, unrelenting people.

The challenge lies beyond the mechanics.

Beyond the game.

It's not something you beat once and put down.

It's not something you beat twice and put down.

It's not something you beat fifty times and put down.

This game is more than the mountain.

More than the times you climb it.

This game is the persistence to work in the force of failure.

To overcome it, and become so good that the challenge feels like it never existed.

Through this game, I discovered a new side of myself.

A side I'd never known existed.

The side that pushes through the walls I'd known.

And break free.

UPDATE: September 6, 2019
----------------------------------------

So now I've done it in under 5 minutes.

A number I'd thought unachievable.

Yet, accomplished, nonetheless.

To where does one go, when the peak has been reached?

I've climbed it countless times.

I've attempted it countless more.

What, then, comes next?

A chase for another second off?

A minute?

A spot on the speedrunning boards, as before?

I think not.

The game is its own reward.

Playing it, proving that you can play it.

That's the true test of the game.

Not the mountain.

Not the mechanics.

Not the narrator.

Not the setbacks.

Not the controls.

Not any other thing.

The real test of this game is not any of these.

It's yourself.

It's testing to see if you have what it takes.

To try.

To master.

To persevere.
