Sincerely this is like a spit-shined HD remaster of one of those XBOX Live Arcade games that came out after Minecraft and COD Zombies got really popular, like the "what if Minecraft looked realistic and gritty and had zombies" shovelware games you'd buy for 2 bucks and forget about immediately. Like one of those "what if Minecraft had a grappling hook and guns" games. Like one of those "what if you could make a house and there were zombies" games. Like one of those-

Boy does this have some creative drive! To play the dumb comparison game, it's got a really nice mix of Silent Hill with a few keynotes taken from Killer7, and a completely unique aesthetic to cap it off. I can easily see it being GOTY for some people, even if I'm not personally as hot on it as I'd like to be.

Absolutely rips, a return to form for "Team Silent" - now Bokeh Studio - that really feels like a follow-up to Siren while still forging its own path as some weirdo Siren-but-it's-Parasyte-in-Kowloon ♥♥♥♥. It's messy, nasty, and Yamaoka's score is a drug of its own as usual. I've heard late-game gets tedious, but I can't imagine this not being in my GOTY list even if it's like, number 3 or whatever. Just absolutely refreshing while also carrying the charm and heart of a PS3 era gem

A love letter to one of my favorite development studios, one that stands alone as not only one of the best games of 2023 - a high bar for a fantastic year in gaming - but also one of my new favorite games of all time.

There is nothing more beautiful in this world than a piece of art that feels handcrafted in the way 24 Killers (and any of Love-de-Lic's games, or their proxy projects) does. It may not be for everyone, but it certainly makes an appealing case for anyone to give it a try. It makes its own unique identity out of a niche of games known for being purposefully obtuse and mysterious, albeit charming enough to smooth over frustrations and tedium. 24K is all of the good parts of this formula, with very little of the frustration and confusion, given you can reach the low pedestal of patience to wait out the answers that come inevitably.

Immaculate vibes and a great gameplay loop! I love to live through the Dreamcast indie renaissance, long live frutiger aero.

A much more condensed and personalized version of my favorite story; not a replacement, nor a sequel, but a retelling under a new light.

It's difficult to even pass by thecatamites' work and not be changed in some way or another by his creative energy. Anthology of the Killer amps up everything he does well to a 10, even at its slowest it is incomparably clever and funny and stylistic.
I've written a lot (and will continue to write) about how his games make me want to create something grandiose and messy, and I think this has been the biggest shove towards actionable inspiration so far. Who knows what this means for me, having recently started a new full-time job, hunting for apartments, trying to manage a few handfuls of projects in my off-time while also catching up on reading and gaming and film and long walks in the forest... but something will happen, if just in my head, and I think I'm learning to be ok with that.
