Previous thoughts:

So from playing the alpha test on multiple occasions where the ping was perfect, gun play felt smooth and responsive. Graphics weren't top notch of course but I think the core bones were brilliant. I genuinely was excited to get stuck into this the moment it came out.

After 5 hours of experiencing poor hit detection, ping in triple figures constantly, FPS drops randomly, clunky feeling controls and a black screen during a fight. I've lost my interest in this title.

Now before you all come into the comments going "Git Gud" or "It's a beta". I urge you to try and play this for longer than 2 hours without feeling like something is off about it. I bet you will find at least one of the things I mentioned happens to you. So where does this leave my recommendation at time of release?

No. It's not worth your time to play this game right now. Too many issues to contend with to feel a good experience of combat in a FPS extraction/large battle shooter. I've been thoroughly disappointed by this release and I hope that with time I see updates improving on performance rather than pumping skins into the store. Whenever I play other titles my ping is literally single digits. It's 2024, why are we still experiencing triple digits on a FTTP connection to a dedicated master server? Budget shouldn't be a factor considering it's published by a large Chinese company.

So I shall be uninstalling this for now and look into installing another game to quench my thirst for a fun FPS shooter. You were so close. That's what sucks the most. Maybe in the future, I'll hop back in but that won't be until the campaign release. It better be less than £15 otherwise I'm out for good. Such a shame, honestly.

EDIT:

So apparently rolling a driver back could resolve some of the issues, I am on AMD hardware but I've seen reports of NVidia having issues too. I shall try again but, my stance still remains the same. Driver roll backs shouldn't be the "fix". For reference, I'm on the latest which is 24.12.1 rolling back to 24.6.1. 6 version hops is rough. I shall add another edit once I've done my testing.

EDIT 2:

So rolling back my drivers, changing the display settings to be windowed full screen and setting the FSR 2.0 to Quality worked for my setup. So I now have a baseline. I shall now try updating back to the latest driver to see if it is indeed a driver issue or the game, judging from the discord. It's likely to be a issue with the drivers. Another edit to follow once I find my results.

EDIT 3:

So my findings are that even on the latest drivers, it's still smooth when in FULL SCREEN WINDOWED mode. For those curious my specs are as follows

RAM: 16GB 3200mhz XMP Corsair Vengence DDR4
CPU: Ryzen 2700x AM4 (Overclocked to 4.5Ghz)
GPU: 5700XT Power Color Red Devil on OC profile at 1080p 144hz
Game settings - All set to high

Expanding on this, I believe there is something relating to the Smart Access Memory within Windows that is causing issues, I would highly recommend joining the discord for the game as that's how I found the driver advice and other general troubleshooting.

Now going back to the game itself now it's running better. I still have the odd hitch on warfare mode, operations is likely to be a lot smoother due to a condensed player base. I've found that I am now hitting more accurately. So the issues are likely frame timings and of course my CPU bottleneck I currently have (Awaiting to upgrade to the best AM4 processor possible once I've confirmed which is best to get.) I shall await and see if any more black screens or packet bursts happen where I get high ping. Additionally, the controls feel a little clunky despite the consistent frame rate. I'm often finding that climbing stuff is an issue as well as prone position. I can only hope with time that updates continue to optimise things in the game to operate in a more fluid way along with adjustments to the gun play, I find the TTK is a little high on certain weapons and where it should be doing more damage, it flops, the LMGs are a great example of something that needs a buff. Either that or they need to introduce a "Chaos" mode that's basically low health, no hud, no vehicles, smaller maps, no beacons or gadgets. Just pure gun on gun. Still objective based with guns and nades.

Updated thoughts:

Still a long way to go in terms of a game, still feels rather bare despite the amount of UI elements, which also needs streamlining like an actual claim all function that claims any battlepass stuff, bonus packs etc without having to go into each and every one. The other feature that needs to be changed is allow the option to turn off the global chat and have it remain off between games, I'm sure many content creators will be thankful for this. (Because you know, gamer words.) And lastly, once mobile comes out, have a cross progression system where you can claim all the battlepass stuff and it also claim to your PC profile. I'll be certainly trying the game on mobile once I can.

My previous rating for this game was not recommend but after sometime troubleshooting and playing on better performance settings. I can say give it a try at least but with a pinch of salt as you boot up.

Rating 7/10

I started on Console, from the very beginning. Loved the idea of this game and how awesome it was to be set in the Titanfall universe. I switched to PC. The jump was interesting but I did okay with it. The movement, the gun play, the characters were all great. That feeling of a first win still holds to this day.

Then EA ruined this entire franchise. No continuation of Titanfall. Monetisation gone mad, poor security, broken and outdated engine, poor connectivity, added more and more to a game that was fine with less, and now they've divided the battle pass in two. "Per Split". Essentially EA has taken our money, run with it and killed a studio. EA is swimming in trillions of our dollars and for what? A barely functional game with a player base that's been dropping for months.

Respawn, if you are reading any of the community feedback. Please distance yourselves from EA. Do what Bungie did with Activision/Blizzard. Run from them. Then spend the time doing what you know needs to be done to get this game back into it's prime. Take a break from adding stuff and fix the problems that has been plaguing this game for YEARS. If it means building a new engine. You build a new engine.

Your community is appalled at this and it's either time for this game to retire, update, or remain a source of greed for EA. I used to love playing this game with friends, now I'm enjoying the drive capacity for better games. I DO NOT recommend this game to anyone now. Spare yourselves from this heap of a mess.

Since the beta, I've loved the format of this game and the overall hype behind it. And since release I have not stopped playing this game! 103 hours into the game via Steam, in game play time of 10 hours (Most of the time it's loading into games or tweaking loadouts that add up the time)

Overall rating 9/10 - Worth a try if you've got a strong machine!

The Good

- The flow of the game
- The variety of the weapons and class gadgets
- The visual fidelity
- The connectivity

The Bad

- The "Cheese" tactics
- "Off Meta" fun can be difficult
- A very competitive game bringing along the mindset (Tryhards, toxic comms or trolling, etc)

The Ugly

- The FPS cheaters are here (No doubt seen some of the crazy things online)
- Frame consistency (CPU dominant game - Destructive environment assets)
- Majority of players don't use in-game chat (Solo queue is brutal - especially in ranked)

It's Good but not Perfect

If you've enjoyed looter shooters such as the Borderlands Series. You enjoy deep lore with plenty of story to chase up in your spare time and you like clicking heads.

This game is 100% worth investing some time into. I used to play on console originally (My PC hardware wasn't up to par at the time) and I played the first title rather late to the party but, I have loved this franchise.

I do however have some early game advice to give to anyone starting out and looking to get levelled up quickly.

- Do public events: These give you a chance of some good drops especially if you convert the event to a heroic. Makes it a little more challenging but the rewards are boosted.

- Farm for materials: Every zone you explore has it's own unique materials. Gather as much as you can as these can help you get the required parts to upgrade your light level for everything you have.

- Strikes, Crucible, Raids: Strikes are a good "Smaller" version of raids where you essentially complete a story mission and have a chance of getting legendary vanguard weapons also good for shard farming, Crucible gives you a chance to PVP and just by completing matches, you get a chance of an engram. Raids also reap good rewards too, so if you have a chance of at least 5 other people helping you out and you like team work. That'll be a good pay out too.

But of course, with every good thing comes a bad thing, a few things to be aware of too

- Crucible has so much cheese: You'll quickly learn that your "Favourite" weapon means jack against some of the cheese weapons. The meta for matches is always changing and it can lead to a lot of salty moments.

- Farming for exotics solo can be tricky: Some exotics (Unique weapons) have a difficult mission to complete solo meaning that unless you have some active friends willing to play, you'll be stuck for a while.

- Farming for materials: Sometimes you need a LOT of materials from different places and it can be tricky for some, so be prepared to have long moments of boredum as you farm the same areas over and over again.

- DLC needed for some parts: If you're into completing collections, prepare to pay for a full title (£50 as of writing) to really get further parts of the game.

So, do I recommend you try this game?

Yes, I really do because you get to enjoy some wonderful gameplay, gorgeous graphics at butter smooth fps and a community driven title that really changes up the normal team work based games out there.

Oh and it's free. So why not?

Early Access Review
If you want to support a quick cash in game that's been poorly made just to make you think all the cosmetics are amazing. Then be my guest. But I've played games a 12 year old could make in minutes, a million times better than this poor game. Absolute trashy game.

Played through once, Honestly if you are looking for a fun game that has some great mechanics, buy it. Just be prepared for the voice acting and cutscenes for days.

Only gripe I have with the game is the occasional frame issue where too much is happening at once but overall, nothing majorly wrong. Haven't found any bugs.

CS:GO Review
I'd recommend this if you enjoy fast paced competitive games. I wouldn't recommend playing it if you enjoy call of duty. I say this purely because it isn't a trick shot show. If you know what you're doing, have a great set of friends, decent reaction time and a basic understanding of the meta. You'll be hooked for a while.

I played over 1000 hours in the previous title with a great community of people had lots of fun. The only gripes I have is be prepared to face a lot of deaths early on until you know about your approach to every corner. Also be ready to hear a lot of voice spam in deathmatch. My advice for new players would be to dive into the settings, get your frame rate well above 60 fps. Keep shadows on, get your audio sorted straight away, find a low sensitivity to start with and gradually increase it until you can find a comfy setting, you'll know when everything feels right.

Once your setup, get practising. The more you play the better you will get. Coming from experience I used to play for 8 hours daily and now I barely get a chance and I'm rusty as anything! But if you are playing casually don't worry about it.

Overall rating 4.5 out of 5
